An absolutely amazing Chris Reeve must own/try

Having looked for an Umnumzaan for a while now, I couldn't be more happy finding one at knife center. Placed my order and it came in within 2 days. The knife will come in a bit stiff, and what they say is true about the opening is true. Depending on how old your knife is (it will come with a birthday card) you may want to dissemble and use the grease to slick it up. All I did with mine was loosen the pivot a touch and it works amazingly. Overall the quality is outstanding and I couldn't be happier. Will gladly shop here again.

Ok... So now I "GET IT"

Bought this a few weeks ago, never had hands on a Reeve knife before and the looks of the Sebenza just didn't do it for me. Once you feel this knife and open and close it a few times, you realize that this is a TOOL and meant to be used as one. Not something flashy to spruce up your pocket or to be fretted over if you scratch or ding it, no, this beast is meant to be used. It resides in my pocket with a Benchmark 940-1 (carbon handle) and an 810 Contego. Those both feel like children's toys in comparison. Kind of like the feel between a composite pistol like the Glock and the heft and feel of a good old 1911... Expensive? Yep.. Worth it, hell yes.

Umnumzaan- amazing knife

Every aspect of this knife exemplifies its quality. Its titanium handle and S30V stainless steel blade weigh in at only 5 ounces. The 3.675" blade opens easily with the thumb stud and closes snugly. The handle has a stonewash finish with an attractive, ergonomic design, and is available in right and left handed versions. Smooth action, solid feel, and attractive design.

Buy once, cry once

A lot of knife makers are using China to produce their designs, and they are top notch. But, try selling it a year after - they hold very little value. Reeve knives will always, always hold their value, even a decade later. I bought heaps of good quality Chinese knives but the Umnumzaan is just one of those knives you have to have in your collection. I own two Umnumzaan knives and the quality surpasses all the knives I own. They aren’t meant to be fidget toys, this is a tool built like a tank.

Yes

I deal in high end knives as a side hustle. Strider, Hinderer, Benchmade, etc. It takes a lot for something to end up in my small (about five total) carry rotation. Not only did the Umnumzaan make it into that elite group, it’s been in my pocket more than the other four combined for over a year.

Great buy!

Great knife, but also really great customer service via Knifecenter, no problems in communication even though I live in Germany. The knife itself is built really well and I just can agree with the other reviews. If you are looking for a tactical folding knife that is designed and built without any flaw, you go very well with the Umnumzaan!

Perfect EDC

I own a few Chris Reeve knives as well as many others but I must say that this knife immediately became my every day carry (once I got over the fact of putting wear on such a beautiful knife). Everyone knows how well it is made but what stands out for me for a EDC is the blade thickness and finish, been using it and it's hard to get the knife marked up.. The only CON is it takes a number of tries to get used to opening the knife (utube reviews to get more info) but I would not let that deter quality or use of this knife. Now I can open and close this bad boy with one hand extremely fast. Hope this helps and again I highly recommend this knife.

typical Chris Reeve

Although I own many knives, I also use them, and this new Chris Reeve is being used. As an everyday pocket knife. It is wonderfully sharp, beautifully fitted and finished. My only question about it is the O-ring shock absorbers on the open/closing studs. I wonder how long they will last.

Gem

My favorite Reeve yet, super simple construction with the solid lockup you expect from a Chris Reeve knife. Perfect jimping and a spot to put your thumb for a more forward grip make it a beast in cardboard cutting or any hard cutting tasks, the top swedge is a great ferro rod striker, and the handle texture is awesome. Get one.

Comment on O-Rings

From my research and from the specification of the knife the O-Rings are polyurethane. The material is rated for extreme wear and tear resistance. I upgraded my steering and strut bushings on my car to a polyurethane product. So our simple use of opening and closing the blade is very minimal wear and tear. So with that being said I would not even worry about the O-Rings and simply enjoy their intended function, Quietness... So I bet you cannot find another tactical knife that opens and closes so sliently.

Ummunzaam

First zaan, long time sebenza user of a small 21 actually. This knife is huge ,but balanced ! I wanted to try magnacut. Figured I might stay with reeve. Well it came sharp and I mean sharp ! No way would I try to improve on it ! The rest of knife is pure Reeve. The only gripe is this is plenty large for a edc for me. But I am able to carry this in my state . A far as the zaan said to be hard to open I found it easy. I am almost 73 but have good hand strength. The big question is will it knock out my old 21 for edc ? I am tickled i found one and especially on knifecenter. They get the knife headed your way right now .

Sublime

I was looking to fill some very specific requirements for my EDC. It is a thing I plan to have and use every day for many years. The Umnumzaan excels in all of my criteria (in no particular order): - Simple strong construction using few pieces. This CRK breaks down to 12 pieces with standard hex wrenches. It is easy to disassemble, clean, lube, and assemble. - Durable, neutral, resistant, and exceptional materials. The titanium, S35VN, 303 stainless, ceramic, and brass all conform to that nicely. - Focused and utilitarian. Not for show, just for work. - Great blade steel. I want a best-in-class steel for edge retention, sharpening ease, and hard but not too brittle. I want a great heat treatment too. The nice tasteful stonewash finish is a plus. - No blade wobble, extremley stable and reliable lockup. - Warranty. If it breaks under normal usage, I want it fixed or replaced. You always compromise on a folder. Fixed blades are simpler and better. However, the best knife is the one you have with you... so you might as well make it good. This knife meets and exceeds my standards for quality and design at every turn. Clearly they learned from the legacy of the Sebenza. This is beauty through form following function in every detail. It is a level of manufacturing precision we rarely see. An artefact, and a testament to human ingenuity. I use it every day to cut all manner of things with confidence. It will go all over the world with me for at least a decade to come.

Best knife I've owned

I see why there is all the hype. This thing is somehow both chunky and thin. It's easy to pocket, but built like a tank. That smooth & hydraulic action is great. After it broke in its butter smooth. Amazing all around.

It's a wonderful and great EDC. I had some hesitation to use it because it's such a beautiful knife. But once, you used it, you don't want too use another knife. Extremly sharp, practical and perfectly finished, it's a great piece.

Chris Reeve Umnumzaan

I had to wait a while for this Zaan but man was the wait worth it. It's hard to review near perfection. CRK has perfection down to a science. I can;t find a single flaw in this knife. Short of personal preference, you can;t really find another knife that is better made than a CRK and this Zaan is no exception! And KnifeCenter kept me frequently updated the entire time my Umnumzaan was backordered. I was never left guessing on the status. Well done KnifeCenter!

Quality

A very durable well made product. Can be used as an every day carry as well as your backcountry companion. I am not yet sold on the shock absorbing mechanism and hope that the O rings will survive for the use of future generations.
