Cons: Sheath/Scabbard
Awesome blades. Despite the size I would recommend two of them as EDCs. The only problem is that the sheaths hold the blades so securely that it is difficult at first to draw them at first. This is not a defect. It is done on purpose so that the blades do not fall out and go straight into your leg or foot. The smartest way to overcome this obstacle is simply proper knife maintenance oil. Oil your blades regularly and when you do add a small portion of oil into the sheath itself.

Wicked blade!

The blade is nasty wicked, concaved slightly on the "flat" side which should provide an chevron shaped puncture. The handle is grippy and comfortable, I personally hold the T handle between ring & middle finger; really comfortable. The sheath is a bit tight and therefore needs a little work. Carefully work in and out of sheath until looser. Beware though, buddy cut himself w/out realizing it. Wicked sharp and point!!! I'll be using it as a last ditch w/ off hand....while retaining duty weapon. Get it!

Fist of steel

This knife fits the hand nice, great rubber grip. Total control of the blade.deploys quicker than a strait fixed blade,or auto folder. The sheath needs to be broken in.clip does not hold the belt well. I filed the inside with more of an angle .works great now.beatiful polished blade.love it. Now I need another one.

Super cool knife

I got this to carry. It is very high quality and the handle is very comfortable. It comes with a hard plastic sheath. This was the best price I found anywhere on this knife.

great back up knife

We sent 2 of these over to Iraq to our friends deployed with The Connecticut National Guard . They really like them and carry them everyday on duty or not laced up in their boots for backup just in case. I bought one for myself as well and they are a very well made well designed knife . Cold Steel makes a fine product.

Beautiful new design.

I purchased the Cold Steel Safe Maker 1 at the same time as Cold Steel Safe Keeper 2. The SM1 is definitely the more elegant design. For me, the flatter handle on the SM1 is easier to clench in a tight fist. The krayton extension onto the shank is a nice plus compared to the bare steel on the SK2 but both are fine. I like the modified grind on the SM1: it looks wicked and in theory should do more damage with less effort. It is illegal to conceal carry where i live but i can, legally, carry it openly... not exactly an EDC but, ok. With sheath the SM1 is a more compact package than the SK2 but the effort needed to pull and deploy is significantly higher. I find both the SM1 and SK2 are natural cross draws to deploy. I like them both but favor the SM1.

Worth every penny

I have been searching for a quality push dagger for quite some time. I was a bit hesitant to drop 60 dollars on this model, but reading other's reviews helped ease that. This knife is worth its full retail price, and then some. It is a steal for its sale price. This is a backup weapon that will not fail you when it counts. The joint between the handle and the blade, which can be a point of failure on these type of knives, is thick and solid. The handle fits great in the hand and offers excellent grip and feel. The blade is a thing of beauty with a wicked point and is appropriately sized to deliver devastating blows. I did sharpen the flat side a bit just because I prefer blades that are sharp enough to shave with. The only reason I listed the sheath as a con is because the clip could be stronger. The sheath holds the knife very securely which is great, and I have no fear of it falling out. It becomes easier to draw with practice and use. The clip sometimes slips off when you try to draw the knife, unless you have an appropriately sized belt. If I was in a situation where I needed to carry this all the time, it would be lashed to my person with paracord using the numerous holes in the sheath, so the clip issue isn't a big deal for me. I carry this when running with my dog and when working around the homestead and it sits great whether out on my belt or concealed IWB. All in all, if you are considering purchasing a push dagger, this is the model to get. A quality blade at a great price. It is fast, deadly, and light. You will not regret this purchase

Wow.

This knife instantly replaced my TOPS Ranger Short Stop, and Ka-Bar TDI (small) as my EDC. From the moment i picked this knife up and squeezed the textured rubber grip i just had a moment with it. I just knew this knife was perfect for me. It was not sharp out of the box, however, a little oil and a diamond sharpener fixed that right up. The knife is intimidating as it can be for being so neat, light-weight,and compact. Not only as an intimidation factor it as pointy as a broken piece of glass. It's wonderful. I wish i had just saved the money i wasted on the TDI and the Short Stop because neither of them (while all very different) stack up to this knife. From all the knives i have in my collection I am the most proud of this product. The sheath is fantastic i have it sewn horizontally on my belt so rests on the small of my back.

effective self defense

I use this knife for self defense. the size and weight are very good easy to conceal easy for a novice knife fighter to use and handle, blade is wide and fairly sharp the finish is also nice. I only have one complaint the release for the knife is very stiff you have to pull very hard the other is not a complaint but some people have said the handle is too agressive on the hand when holding firm I don't find this to be an issue if your hands are very sweaty you will have plenty of control.

What you all know about killing

^^^^^^^^^Name the movie quote ^^^^^^^^^ Always wanted a decent push dagger/ knife, and Cold Steel as delivered! Sharp as my wit straight out of the box. Sheath retention is amazing...first few clicks is a bit stiff, but soon worked it in...clip can be mounted on belt, pack, where ever you fancy...I use mine behind my mag pouches on my duty belt as my last ditch goodnight device! I bought two! Buy one...you won't be disappointed

Outstanding

The Knife is built very tough. It has a strong blade, slightly convex on the bottom for blood drainage, great for slashing/ puncturing. The handle has a very firm grip that fits nicely in a closed fist, just as it should. Great for self defense, or whatever your needs may be. Very solid and sharp.

The best in it's class

I use this dagger as a last ditch option in my personal defense setup. I also carry it alone when I leave other options in the car, such as gas stations immediately after work. Very solid in hand, no one will have a chance to grab this from you. Handle material and design is excellent, so grippy it will always grab your shirt when worn small of back, so check concealment often.Penetration will not be a problem with this blade. I believe the larger size was a good choice as far as reaching vital organs when under stress during an attack. I did notice small specks of rust/discoloration after a week or so of carry, so WD 40 was called for. Stain resistant, not stainless. The sheath is great with good hold, but that clip needs work, it sometimes even works its way off of my belt. I'll beat a dude to death with a sheath if I have to, but not my preffered method. An interchangeable belt loop included would be awesome, and cheap. Overall I would buy again no question.

I'VE PUT IT THROUGH IT'S PACES ALREADY (STABBING AND CUTTING WOOD,CARDBOARD AND PUT IT THROUGH A BIG OL SIDE OF BEEF WE HAD IN THE FREEZER,WENT RIGHT THROUGH TO THE HANDLE) AND IT HASN'T FAILED ME ONE BIT! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR,BECAUSE IF YOU'RE READING THIS YOU KNOW YOU ALREADY ARE GONNA BUYT IT,LOL,SO JUST DO IT! :)

Best for Self Defense

For years (like nearly 50) I have been looking for a good self defense knife. For a long knife, I like the ESEE Junglas. But it is also necessary to have something small and FAST. Even though I can legally carry a handgun, it can take way too much time to get it out from concealed carry. The Cold Steel Push Dagger is on my belt, and instantly available. It is also long enough for effectiveness. (Watch the video.) Also, the handle configuration is ergonomically perfect. Other push Daggers I have seen look like toys. This is solid and has a capable 4 inch blade.

Very good fighting knife

Just got one of these from KC after wanting one for quite awhile, quality is top notch and the handle is very comfortable. Only had it twenty four hours but I've noticed several good points about a push dagger, one being it's easy to carry IWB (inside the waist band) thanks to the short handle and you can have it in your off hand and still use a pistol for self-defense it gives you options you don't have with a regular folder or fixed blade. About the only downside, somewhat anyways,is the scabbard;it's not cheap and honestly holds the knife very well but it also feels like zytel so it may not hold up too well and I've had similar ones that broke things like the belt clip plus it sometimes holds the knife TOO well,I've pulled the whole caboose out and not just the blade. Not a deal breaker just have to get a good kydex sheath for it. I'd recommend one if you want a good fighting knife.

Found my perfect knife

This blade is just a piece of art. In the beginning I thought about buying a smaller size like the Safe Keeper II or the Pal series, but decided to buy this one and I'm glad I did, because the size is just perfect! Not too big at all and fits perfectly on my belt or even horizontally on my belt loop. I saw people complaining about the sheath saying it's too tight and sometimes it comes out with the knife, but it never happened to me. The blade came really sharp and the handle is just perfect. I would recommend it!

A Really Great Knife

This is a great knife, and I love it. Very well made, comfortable to wear and wield, and I trust it with my life. The only problem I had is that I had to use excessive force to remove the blade from the sheath. A little bending of the sheath's locking catch soon rectified this. I also bought a Safe Maker 2 for my wife, and actually prefer the 2. I'll be buying myself one soon. Great service and a problem free order including international shipping.

Perfect size. The plastic sheath comes very tight and it´s hard to take out the knife, but if you force it a few times the hold is just the right amount. Very sharp out of the box. I will use it as a boot knife.

JUST GOT MINE TODAY; And I Got Cut!

So, I got my Cold Steel Safe Maker 1 today (May 7th, 2015) and was questioning if it was worth the buy before it got here- sometimes I go nuts like that, but when it got here I got the butterflies inside like a little kid getting a surprise gift from his Daddy- I was so excited to have this thing. So I firmly grabbed around the sides of the sheath and YANKED this thing out the sheath and I thought, "MAN, that thing was in there tight, just like they said in the reviews." I felt the weight of this push dagger while looking at it and thought to myself, "Man this thing is bigger in person than what they show in the videos on YouTube; that polish is REAL clean- man this thing is NICE!" Then the most stupidest thought came to my head, I looked at the extra plastic protruding on each side and around the sheath and I looked at the extra plastic on both sides of the sheath right next to where the blade goes in and I said, "Hmmm, I wonder if I were to put my thumb here, and my index finger here; and pull, I wonder if the blade would cut me?" I said to myself, "It might not be wise to do that, because it might cut ya- Screw it, Let's do it." I gave it a firm and steady pull...SHING! -right across the thumb, and I was bleeding. I then said to myself, "Well that wasn't a very smart move." I walked into the bathroom to get a bandage behind the mirror cabinet, after I got the bandage and closed the mirror cabinet, I looked at myself in the mirror smiling and my wise self said to my boneheaded self "I told you, I told you, you dumb dumb, not to do it, I knew that would happen; but, you did it anyway. Now go tape up your thumb you Blockhead, maybe you learned something today." Now, the moral of this story is... as beautiful as this push dagger is when in hand, DO NOT FORGET that this is a weapon, and weapons should be handled with Care, and most importantly, Awareness. -Enjoy your purchase. P.S. If you see me and would like to see the proof, just ask to see my thumb and I will show it to you.

Cold steel Safemaker 1

The Cold Steel Safemaker 1 is a very well made tool.Good steel, comfortable handle not too weighty so handles well and scary sharp.I carry this blade mainly as a self defense weapon which is what it is designed for, though if I needed to cut something in more of a utility situation I could. The only thing I can think of that I would like to see different about this knife is the sheath too ridged for conceal carry in a waist band for me but good for a vest or boot and I have not had any problems with the sheath not retaining the blade it seems to hold on pretty well.

Outstanding

I work outdoors and have had run-ins with aggressive stray dogs on occasion. It's always alarming. I carry this push knife to defend myself and it's perfect for my needs. Its weight and balance leave nothing to be desired. In my opinion, it's more than sharp enough to defend oneself against animals on two or four legs. The knife fits the sheath tightly and won't fall out. You definitely have to give it a tug to draw it therefore i'm not concerned with losing it. There's no chance of it slipping out of the sheath. (If one is arthritic, elderly or otherwise feeble it may be a bit difficult to draw quickly) I'm truly impressed and highly recommend it. It will be very tough to beat the price for such a high quality push knife.

Excellent product

This is the best design on the market. I looked at custom makers and their handles were Micarta. Attractive stuff, but the FUNCTION of this knife is last ditch defensive. The Micarta is slippery when wet while the Kraton is nicely grippy. My criticisms are only two. First, the blade is flat on one side. Truly, the knife should be double edged and double sided for best and most accurate penetration. The flat side makes it easier to sharpen and cheaper to produce. The second criticism is the sheath. It is hard plastic and retains a death grip on the blade through the use of two molded in bumps on the inside of the sheath. There is no release, so I carefully took a razor knife and shaved these bumps down. I guess that the sheath is supposed to be either laced to SWAT gear or hung around your neck, OR it does sport a boot/belt clip on the reverse side. Before I would carry this as a civilian I would need a custom made leather sheath with perhaps a loop or one way snap, or attach this (after reducing the holding bumps to the inside of a boot or sideways to a belt)

Great law enforcement last ditch weapon

I carry this on my left hip gun belt as a handgun retention weapon carried on my right hip. Many people (even some LEOs) don't recognize this as a knife and ask me what it is. Supervisors don't bother me about it, mostly because it is small and black. The sheath is a problem. I've had the knife pull out or eject onto the street from seatbelts, foot chases and friction from shirts against the handle. I learned to tie nylon cord using a bowtie around the sheath to the neck of the knife. I just pull the loose end of the cord like untying my boots before pulling the knife out. Will also slow any knife grab attempt by bad guys. I carry this off duty in my front pocket without the nylon tie. No problems--much faster and more solid than any folder.

Safe Maker 1

I bought this knife to carry on my chest rig. I love the knife, it is typical Cold Steel quality (excellent) but I am less thrilled with the Securex sheath. This sheath is so tight that I can hold the knife by the handle and shake my chest rig (with 9 loaded magazines and various pieces of gear) violently and the knife will not come out of the sheath. I'm going to have to file off part of the tabs on the inside of the sheath which hold the knife in place just to be able to draw the knife. Bummer. I give kudos to KnifeCenter.com for great price, rapid order processing and quick shipping. Thanks.

Best push-dagger out there

Its unusual grind, with a full hollow ground surface, increases the wound channel when you twist the knife in. Try it on soda cans. This, by itself, is a great improvement over the more usual diamond grind. The handle material extending over the knife's 'neck' is another fine feature. It makes the gripping more comfortable and stable. Besides, it contributes for a lower profile, there´s less naked metal to shine up when the knife is sheathed. The sheath is not as secure (upside down) as I wished it to be. Also, the blade steel could also be improved upon, but what´s the point for a self defense piece of cutlery at this price range to have a gourmet steel? Overall, a great buy.

SAFE MAKER I

This is a very serious offensive/last resort weapon. Even the slightest pressure will puncture clothing and skin. I love the ergonomics and design, weight is good also. My only criticism is that it is very hard to deploy one-handed. This goes to the very secure way it stays in the sheath, but trying to pull it out from on my belt usually results in sheath coming out with it. This could be the diff. between safety and harm. Probably best worn on boot leather or somewhere the clip VERY snugly fits.

Great niche knife

While I'm sure you could use this for utilitarian purposes the design is best suited as a fighting knife. The handle is very comfortable when gripping the knife. It comes pretty sharp from the factory. It's a bit large if you are looking for a boot knife. The sheath has ample attachment points in case you want to attach this to web gear or belt etc and the sheath attaches the knife securely but releases easily with a smart tug. Hope this helps

Safe Maker 1

Overall a good Use specific knife. That said, there are a few disappointments in store for the buyer. First the knife blade is not the same on both sides. The pictures you see on all the web sites and catalogs show swell to the center of the blade with a shallow blood groove down the center. Much like a normal dagger. I expected the other side to be the same. IT IS NOT. It is completely flat. The sheath is another problem area. The knife is not securely held if carried in an inverted manner. I really expected more for the money.

It's a dagger all right

Designed by CS's CEO, this knife is very strangely shaped yet pretty effective as a push dagger. Made of AUS8, with a nearly flat underside that makes it asymmetrical. Still, it presents a very sharp tip and somewhat sharp edges that can stab and slash soft materials effectively. Kind of a lot to put into a knife with such a singular purpose, which could be achieved with cheaper steel. It's nice, though!

Too much hype

The blade was anything but sharp. It was beveled, both sides, you couldn't cut paper with it. Disappointing for a new knife. I really don't think new knives should have to be sharpened or straightened out when you buy them from an 'acclaimed' seller.
