Double Edged and Evil

Buyer beware. Loveless designed the Black Bear so that it looks like a traditional combat knife. It is not obvious from the photos that the spine of the blade is also razor sharp. If you want a deadly mini-sword, I can't think of a better choice. The Black Bear is beautifully constructed and finished. The weight and balance are perfect, as are the micarta handles, and the nickle silver hilt and sub-hilt. As others have noted, the sheath holds the knife very tightly. Given how sharp it is and that both edges are sharpened, I'm not sure that's a bad thing, but I have sliced myself getting it out of the sheath. In fact, it's so sharp you can cut yourself without realizing it. Check out the videos of it in action on Cold Steel's website.

Knife is Outstanding but Scabbard...well...

Couldn't be more pleased with the knife itself. It is everything that the "brochure" says it is. The scabbard that comes with it is not so good. Maybe it's made for left-hand folks but at the least it's hard to access the knife from the scabbard. I'm having another one made for this beautiful knife.

Bad to the bone

I found this knife listed in a book of military and fighting knives. The comment that got my attention was and I quote"This knife has 1 purpose , Killing. If you go into harms way regularly give this a real good look. You might want to dull coat it with something to subdue the highly polished metal surfaces. Otherwise it is one of the best for when your back is against the wall .

The classic pure fighting knife

If you go in harm's way and carry a knife as a backup weapon, this is the one you want. It is not a camp knife, hunting knife, survival knife or anything else. This is a pure weapon. Workmanship - excellent, Sharpness - excellent. The back edge of the blade is sharpened also, so you have a small sword. Balance is superb. It is super fast for either slashing or thrusting. If you have not tried the subhilt design, it takes some getting used to, but it is handy for both controlling the knife and withdrawing it should it become stuck. Unlike some other Cold Steel knives, this comes with an excellent Kydex sheath. Five Stars.

Black Bear Classic

The knife itself is well made and worth the price. The sheath however, is a piece of garbage. When I received the knife I could not withdraw it from the sheath without using a screw driver to pry it out. If you push the knife all the way in the sheath good luck getting it out. Just about impossible using your bare hands.
