Awesome!

This is the Best!! the knife, once sharpened is extremely sharp and it is cool to show off to friends. The only negative to this knife is that the lock when first bought is very stiff so its hard to close, but after watching some youtube videos and using a pencil to jam between the tope metal joint and the base, it is awesome! the handle is a little cheap but for 10$ its the best!!!

Buy this knife

(aside from the knife, Knifecenter.com always comes through!!!) This is going to accompany me everyday, along with my scimitar spike for everyday chores this and thats. It is, as all Cold Steel blades come, razor sharp with a needle point. Textured woodgrain like handle is nice for this price and maker. The ringlock mechanism seems very sturdy with no play or movement at all. I am going to continue my collection of Cold Steel blades, looking into the medium Espada next. if you are on a budget but need a nice edc, you found it. could use a clip, but that would be too much on it all together.

For the price, maybe the best buy here.

As my friend said ( got it as a gift from me) "... the more I look at it, the more I like it.." There is something so good in this design... I have original Okapi and now Kudu. I can't wait to put them to test Kudu vs. Okapi.

For ten bucks you can't go wrong

Sharpens easily and holds a nice edge. It is large though, large enough to make it a little unwieldy for smaller hands. The locking ring works well to lock up the blade but is awkward for sure. The ring can also get in the way of gripping close to the blade for control (try sticking your finger through the ring). It's a quirky knife but sure to start a few conversations and for the price it's a cool knife to have and use.

Best under 10 dollar knife ever

I have used this knife for everything today, I cut 100 paper snow flakes. Then I chopped everything for dinner, cut my meat with it. Juggled it threw it in a dart board, filled a threatening scene for a home movie the karaka sound was vicious. Then I cut pie with it. Still sharp as heck, I love this knife giving one to each of my two best friends. This knife is BEAST!

Poor out of the box sharpness

I use Cold Steel Kudu as EDC. When I bought it, it wasn't razor sharp and this disappointed me. The blade was asymmetrically sharpened. Every other things are fine. It is light, good handle. When I changed the angle of sharpening, the knife start shave. Kudu is a good deal.

Much better than expected

Good all around utility knife. Very sharp and strong lock. The lock take some get use to but once you get the hang of it, it no problem to use. Things that I not thrilled with are it is a two handed knife for opening and closing and the handle does feel cheap but hey at 9 buck it is cheap! Great knife to use on everyday chores especially ones that might have a chance a damaging your high dollar umber folder. At the price I may buy a couple of more just have in the tool box and etc. Overall ranking would have been a 3 but the price value point drove it up a notch for me. Give it a try you may find you like it,

Zany and Impressive

This is excellent value for a locking folding knife. It is artistic (with a stylized Kudu horn replication on the handle), elegant, and is strongly made for a light folder. The rattly ring takes some getting used to, but this is the intrinsic nature of the knife (which BTW is a KUDU not a KUBU as shown in the KCI icon) and I'll get used to it. Easily became razor sharp after 3 strokes each side on ceramic sticks. The unlocking technique needs to be practiced but works well. The ratchet 'stops' feature is a nice touch, easily felt on closing the blade, which avoid a fast and potentially dangerous close. A good utility knife that has sufficient capability for an emergency self-defense tool. It is extremely light which allows discreet carry.

Inexpensive folder is a winner

I just got this knife today from knifecenter. It should be noted, this is the kuDU from Cold Steel, not "Kubu" as is listed. The kudu is similar to an antelope. Oh well, it's still a great knife. This knife would be a good deal at twice the price! I have had extremely good experiences with some of Cold Steel's other knives with Krupp 4116 stainless steel. I own Cold Steel's Finn Bear and Roach Belly fixed blades. Krupp 4116, while not a "premium" or "buzzword" mega steel, is a good solid stainless for knife blades. It's as close to rust proof as I've seen in a stainless, with the exception of Spyderco's H1 or other precipitation hardened stainless alloys. Some people might have trouble with the 2-handed opening and closing, the ring lock operates much like a lock back knife, but instead of depressing a lock bar on the back, you lift the ring to fold the knife away. It does take some getting used to, but for a utility or work knife, how often do you really need to deploy your knife with one hand at lightning speed? It's not like anyone's going to go charging into combat with this knife after all. The zytel handle is textured kind of like woodgrain and provides a pretty good grip. The ring connected to the lock bar is a simple split ring, like a keyring, so if you wanted, you could take that off and connect a lanyard or other device to use as the lock pull. There is no pocket clip, but this folder is extremely light, especially for a knife with a 4 inch plus blade, so, while big, it rides in the pocket very easily and discreetly. I'm happy I decided to get the kudu, $8.95 is what I might spend on lunch for just one day, but this knife will no doubt give me years of service, plus Cold Steel offers a reasonable 1 year warranty on their folding knives. If you can get past the funky locking mechanism, this knife is a great deal. Like every Cold Steel knife I've ever bought, the blade was *scary* shaving sharp, right out of the box.

IN CLOSING !

I'm a COLD STEEL fanatic! Given the thought put into thier blades. I'm never disappointed with thier products. The same can be said about KNIFE CENTERS' service. THANK YOU. That said, I have to say that the instructions for closing the blade trouble me. There is an unnecessary risk for injury if you grasp the handle while manipulating the lock as was recommended. May I suggest to grasp the top of the blade (unsharpened side) with one hand. Then use your forefinger (pointer) on the other hand to pull the ring on the locking mechanism while using the thumb to push the handle closed. There's no undo exposure to the blade and complete control of its closure. (JUST A SUGGESTION) I don't play with knives. They're tools. I look at a blade to see that it functions and will work as I need it to; then I put it away until utilized. This knife came "shave sharp" out of the box. It was sturdy and has a strong lock. I don't like to snap a blade shut to save the number of times I have to touch them up. I have a few blades suited for whatever occasion. I find when I need an EDC blade for the inside pocket of a good suit. Its very light weight and slim profile makes it a good choice. The only thing keeping me from giving it a five (5) happens to be the instructions to close the thing. Otherwise, the blade itself rates a five. Even though It looks like an old fashioned knife. It's feather light. It's razor sharp out the box an sturdy as hell. It's COLD STEEL QUALITY for a few bucks. Thanks fo a good deal.

Cheap and good...

I really don't see why there should be much negative comments on this knife... It's lesser than $10, what do you expect?!?! Very sharp out of box, though not as sharp as other CS knives I own and still sharper than a lot of other brands. A long blade for it's price (probably because of the blade material used). Ring lock is hard to deploy with one hand (but not impossible) and decently well on locking the blade to prevent blade play. For the price I'm paying, I'm satisfied with the product.

Good for the price

First off if you are looking for any type of tactical knife then look for a Recon 1 tanto. Because this knife though it could be a last resort defensive blade is more of and EDC box opener or rope cutter blade. I like how CS still keeps good materials in their products no matter how cheap, ie- Zytel handle and krupp 4116 stainless. It's a different lock but easy to use if you have any difficulty with it watch YouTube video on how to open a kudu, it will cover it all for you. While speaking of the lock, I expected a little play out of the box, but to my surprise there was none, but after about 30 openings you will gradually see a little up and down play develop, but it is such a small amount that I didn't care at all. The blade is a very thin 4 inch razor sharp stainless steel blade, I love it for what I use it for but would not take it if I needed a knife with me no matter what. Some personal recommendations on tasks this blade would do well at are: Knife for you vehicles glove box, EDC for light cutting tasks ie- opening boxes and cutting rope or other fibrous materials, and a backup for your main blade. If you place a large order from CS throw this one in there too, I think those who require a nice cutter would be pleased with this knife.

Extremely Light Knife

The Kudu is the best bang-for-the-buck knife out there. For the price of a pocket knife, you can have a 4.25-inch blade that is very lightweight. The Kudu is lighter than all other regular-sized knives I own. It does not have a pocket clip. If it did, it might have been the perfect pocket sword for everyday carry. The unique locking system involves a notch at the back of the blade interacting with a collar that is pinned to the handle. The lockup feels very solid. If the collar becomes damaged, though, the lock will clearly fail. The blade has additional notches that let it gradually step down to the closed position. The blade contains a typo. It states "COLO STEEL" instead of "COLD STEEL". Do not let the goofy typo be a deal breaker. Pick up this knife!

Good beater knife

If you're looking for a cheap beater knife this is it. The knife came almost shaving sharp and has held an edge well. The ring lock takes some getting used to but it locks the knife up solidly. Makes for a great conversation piece as well. It's a bit long but it's a brute and it feels really good in the hand. The handle feels kind of cheap but it's a $10 knife so what do you expect? Overall this knife is well worth the money. Wish it had a pocket clip but oh well.

Women and children last

I bought this knife for my 9 year old son who has recently become interested in carving and turning sticks into spears. He spends hours researching knives and since I refused to buy the Finn Bear, he settled for this one. So, the knife is great, with just one exception. It's next to impossible for him to close the knife. Of course, that makes sense, since it's not designed for a child's hands. But, I have a difficult time, too, and I have pretty good hand strength. It takes all of my strength to pull the ring back and reach my thumb over to push the knife down. Wonder if this knife could have a "smaller hand" version.

great Knife, Light but very sharp!

This a great large EDC, because its not heavy at ALL. First, is is very sharp, sharper than most knives (but hey, thats cold steel). Second the action will never shut on your hand (unless you do something stupid). Third, the blade play is minor, but it could be fixed, it wont stop me from giving this knife five stars, but i would give it only a 9/10 on a larger scale. Finally, the price is great, this is a very high value knife. I recomend it for it's size, it's sharpness, and overall quality! p.s. Dont let its cheaper feal get you on the wrong track, it is zytel and it is very strong.

Inexpensive but worth more

I have several of these received complimentary when purchasing other CS products. I have the same knife but large and small both. The blade is thin and polished and therefore SHARP. Given the cost , free or very reasonable, there is a lot of value in these knives. You cant go wrong, good for household type chores or keeping in a recess in the car door. Very light in the hand. Closing the blade can be tricky, you have to think about what you are doing and watch what your fingers are doing. The lockup is strong, the closing must be learned. Very good value, but not for cubscouts and maybe not even some boyscouts.
