An impressive knife (both the 4" and 6" models) at a great price.
I bought both the 4" and 6". FYI - I own almost all Cold Steel folders whether I can legally carry them or not. I'll call these 2 Luzons home runs but not grand slams! I love the look, the price, and quality on these 2 are fine. Pro: -I LIKE the flipping action on both, its not a top ten flipper but I'm not at all disappointed. I've seen varying degrees of quality control from CS, so no surprise if your mileage varies. -the liners are substantially milled out on both sizes - I am impressed. -No sharp edges on the liners or flipper tab - I'm impressed as I've bought several $100-$250 knives with sharp corners on the liners. -Thumb stud appears to be held on by a very tiny set screw on both models. They could have made it simpler but they didn't. Observations: -The 6 inch was sharper than the 4". Both cut standard office paper pretty well, but sharpness seems to be below normal for a new Cold Steel. -On both of them, the safety slider button was marked up. It's either a manufacturing or handling issue or someone was playing with these knives before I got them. -4" has the best feeling grip with a slight hot spot on the liner lock. -6" offers many grip options, none are terrible but most are not particularly plesant. Best feel is a hammer or saber grip as far back as possible, choking up on the knife less pleasant. -Interesting that the pivots appear to be the same size even though the 6" has enough material to make 3 or 4 4-inch models. Cons: -The slider safety button rattles slightly on both. -Again I'm not too keen on the 6" handle, but how can you complain about this monster of a knife at this low price?

5 star based on low price. This cuts well the blade is a little thinner than I'm used to seeing from Cold Steel but that's a good thing in this design. In terms of sheer quality, Voyager then Pro-Lite then Luzon. Snaps open like it's an assisted opener. Thumb studs aren't thumb studs they contact the frame in lieu of a pin behind the tang (therefore don't let them loosen up, and don't complain they are located in a poor position if they were really thumb studs and not blade stops). The plastic clip works well - secure but gentle on clothing and it fits cosmetically with the rest of the handle. The clip is non reversible and don't unscrew it, it won't screw back together to original levels of quality. The liner lock seems thinner than most hence the thumb safety is recommended and don't baton this one. No play or wiggle, when closed the safety slider can rattle This is an inexpensive highly functional knife made to be carried often and used infrequently due to the compromises in build quality to hit this price point - it's not a Rajah or Spartan. The design is first class, the build quality is Buck.

I finally got a surprise
I"ll start by telling you that the Luzon flipper is a beautiful knife. I recieved mine a few days ago and I absolutely love this design. I think the Medium size is perfect, any larger and you might as well carry a fixed blade, it is a pocket knife after all. The knife feels substantial, strong and sharp as shit. I have 2 sons in the service and I won't give them anything that I think would ever let them down and so far every Cold Steel I have bought has been rock solid. The catch here is that they have all been fixed blades. This Luzon is the first folder. Here's the issue - the term "leaf-spring lock" can also be interpreted as Cold Steel's version of a "liner lock". The liner lock on my knife is so "F"ing tight its tearing up my thumb. I can't close this knife with one hand more than 10 times without needing a medic. I've oiled and loosened the pivot a hair and worked the knife for more than a couple of hours total trying to loosen up the lock just a hair. If I could shave 1/100th of an inch off the the liner (leaf spring) without taking this knife apart I would. You can expect a break in period for every new knive - unfortunately I don't know what is going to break first but it looks like its going to be my thumb. I really expected a smoother experience and I really wanted to put this into the EDC rotation. I'll give it another week or 2. If it gets better I will let you know. If not, then its a hard pass. Unfortunately there's this old saying that goes "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me". This might just be my first and last Cold Steel Folder.

Nice knife for the money
I had been looking forward to the release of the Luzon line and bought this one (the four-inch), as well as the six-inch. I will review the latter separately, as they are vastly different in size and performance. With regard to this four-inch, it flips open smoothly, and the user does have the option for using the thumb studs as well as the fuller (for two-handed opening--useful when there are nervous people nearby). The blade is fairly sharp, as it will shave arm hair, with effort. But for the $30.00 price tag, I'm OK with sharpening it myself. The biggest concern is lock-stick. The lock interface surface on the tang is completely rough and unfinished. I believe that this contributes to the difficulty in moving the liner lock. I have tried lubrication and working the knife, with minor improvement over two hours. But I'm done for today--my thumb is sore. This is the first day of ownership, so I remain optimistic that the action will smooth out eventually. Otherwise, the mechanics of the knife are excellent. The side lock works correctly, and unlike earlier reports, does not rattle. The blade is well-centered, and does not have any play when fully open. The detent has the proper tension for using the flipper and the blade opens smartly. Overall, this is a good knife with good styling, ergonomics, and mechanics. But I can't rate it at five stars unless the lock stick resolves itself. BTW, the six-inch did not have any lock stick issues.

I like the Luzon knives ,they are well made and worth the money.. I have both sizes ,the Large (a real head turner ) and the so called Medium! Calling this knife a Medium compared to the Large is misleading . It should be called SMALL because it is in every way, handle and blade>> I would like to see a Real Medium size ,bigger handle and a wider blade and in 5 inch length... I like the way the thumb studs lock up to the frame ,giving the knife More strength on the push cut ..All folders should be made this way ! Tks for a great knife

Got this in the mail 3 days ago. Fast shipping from KnifeCenter by the way! I love the way the knife looks. Very sleek. Deployment is smooth and easy. Lockup is good. The knife also has a slide lock which probably wont get much use, but it is there if you feel you need it. The 4 inch blade has a great look...The handle has a great feel with plenty of room even for people with large hands. The only complaint i have is that mine came without the normal sharpness I expect from a Cold Steel. I took care of that without much trouble. It is lightweight and carries very easy...All in all, a very good knife!

I love knives and collect them based on utility and appearance. The Luzon caught my eye right away and it was a real tussle to keep myself from buying one immediately just based on appearance. I love the styling. This knife is beautifully designed, so I broke down and bought one the day after I saw it online. I will probably not use this knife for everyday chores, although it is well built and could easily handle some rough work after a sharpening. Out of the box, blade sharpness leaves a lot to be desired, so the immediate complaint, if you could call it a complaint, is for a need to sharpen when brand new. The handle is uniquely styled to fit your hand and afford a firm grip when deployed. Which leads to a problem noted immediately. The liner lock is curved to allow improved gripping, but it leaves a notch where I would like to be able to push against the liner to release the lock. You have to release the lock by pushing on a small 'hill' in the liner and that tends to hurt the thumb. I found myself using a second hand to push lower down on the liner for release. Otherwise, no complaints. Deployment is easy and the blade flips out quickly with the blade rear flipper lever. The thumbstud, however is a little too close to the pivot for my liking and it is difficult for me to use to open the blade. The slide lock works well but only locks the bade in the deplyed position, not when the knife is closed. Blade seel is good in 8crMOV, so you should get pretty good use of it for your money. overall, I think the Luzon is a great value at this price and it is a beautiful addition to my collection.

I really love Luzon cause it's named after an island where I grew up. The handle is exquisite. Im just having a small problem and I hope someone can help me out. The liner lock of my Luzon is very hard to push. Im hurting my thumb whenever Im closing it. Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

like the design
just got mine. I flipped it open and checked the blade. uneven grind, and rather dull. took a while to sharpen it to shave hair. they must have a high RC on that steel. the next thing I noticed is I could not close the knife. Apparently, if you put some oomph in trying to flip it open, the spring lock gets pushed in real tight. When I finally disengaged it, I practiced with different degrees of force on the flipper. If you do it right, it disengages fine. I then noticed this rattling sound. I played with the knife a while before I realized that safety latch was making the noise. on the bright side, I do like the grip. fits my hand really well. The blade shape is nice, but I live in one of those restrictive states where you cant have a blade over 3in, and in some jurisdictions, the knife cant have a lock. Weird, we can open carry guns so why worry about that stuff, and automatics (knives) are allowed. Anyway, I was torn between 3 and 4 stars but decided on 3 because CS quality control could have been better.

Terrible Liner Lock
I am a huge fan of Cold Steel knives and own 12 of them, most with the Tri-Ad lock and a couple with a regular liner lock. (My favorites are the AD-10 and American Lawman.) I have never had such difficulty releasing a liner lock on a Cold Steel knife to get the blade to fold back into the body of a folding knife. I actually had to delicately wedge a small screwdriver to use as a wedge to force the thicker than normal, very stiff, and immovable steel liner lock to release the blade. I didn't buy this knife from knifecenter but another seller. I am returning this very disappointing knife, which I consider defective. Once I flipped this blade out (which had a great snappy action) I couldn't get the blade to release from the liner lock.
