The Quality is first rate for the Price! What surprised me,was how easy it flips open for such a large[6"] blade! Some of my smaller "flippers" do not open as easily as the Luzon.

A BIG Knife, but excellent

I had been looking forward to the release of the Luzon line and bought the four-inch as well as the six-inch today. I like both, but I like the six-inch more. It flips open smoothly, and the user does have the option for using the thumb studs as well as the fuller--for two-handed opening. In this case, two-handed opening will probably not put nervous observers at ease, as this is a LARGE knife. Although its general shape and proportions are the same as the four-inch model, the pictures of the two knives do not hint and the major difference in size and weight. I typically carry knives in my right hip pocket. While the six-inch knife will fit (barely), I know it's there when I sit down. It might be better to carry it in a front trousers pocket. I am a small person, so larger people may be able to carry it more comfortably. And I still plan to carry it myself. In a perfect world, it would be interesting to see a medium-sized Luzon with a five-inch blade. The factory edge was quite dull. But for the $40.00 price tag, I'm OK with sharpening it myself. Unlike the four-inch, this six-inch had no lock stick at all, despite having the same rough surface on the tang lock interface as the four-inch. The other mechanics of the knife are excellent as well. The side lock works correctly, and unlike earlier reports, does not rattle. The blade is well-centered, and does not have any play when fully open. The detent has the proper tension for using the flipper and the blade opens smartly and locks up with a loud "clack." The blade is heavy and unlike the four-inch, I can open the six-inch by flicking the closed knife downward. Overall, this is an excellent knife--with good styling, ergonomics, and mechanics, particularly for the cost.

My New Favorite XL EDC Folder

Very large, flashy, and commanding, yet small enough to retain its Every-Day-Carry appeal. This design is sleeker and more intimidating than I thought it would be. It's not too bulky to keep in a pocket all day, and the clip is nice and sturdy and preserves positioning. The knife is almost slim for its size. The GFN meets the metal neatly to make a stiff overall handle. The flicker studs on the front and rear is perfect for regular, or pocket catch flicking, however the knife blade is easily deployed with a significant flick of the wrist regardless. The retention spur and divot which keep the blade closed are strong enough to prevent accidental opening in pocket, very important for a large blade! The blade is well carved. Seriously brushed edges make for that gorgeous utilitarian white and iridescent sheen I see on a lot of other CS blades. The mirror and lighting effects between the edge, the bevel, the blood groove, contrasting with the dark, glock-like handle, and its enough to get the message across. The heavy blade affords you many ways to deploy this knife, thumb stud, pocket stud, manual, inertia, or flick assist. The safety is loose like the edge of a measuring tape, and it's paint is worn looking, but this isn't a functional problem. I think it looks cool in contrast to the order. I only mention that because 1% will have a fit over it rattling slightly. The safety sticks in place well, and so does the liner lock. Might need some repetition work where the liner-catch meets the underside of the blade, a little rough to slide over. Bear in mind there might be some minor minor cosmetic flaws like slight assembly scratches, if you are looking really really hard. Overall, the ergonomics, fit, and design are very functional. I thought this would be such a behemoth drawer-queen that it wouldn't be worth carrying, but it carries like box-cutter and opens like a ka-bar. The blade geometry is just so stunning. For someone who needs a pocket folder that locks up like a combat knife, and you want the message of potent self defense to be quickly and visually asserted, then this is your blade. This looks sharp. Got mine delivered June, 2018 for $47. It was pre ordered, so an early run and discounted. It's worth the full price. CS delivers great stuff for the price, which is even better when it's cheap.

When I opened the package I thought this going to be a bugger to flip open no fun at all! Boy was I wrong so easy my old lady and kid flipped it open easy. Cold Steel hit a home run to bad you can't carry it in a city.

Huge and Good

I was surprised at the quality of this knife. Of course it is really big so I would not use it for EDC. I think it would be a good choice as an outdoor knife. Action is very smooth and it seems to lock up very well. It takes a strong flick to make the liner lock engage so check it before using it. If you open it slowly the lock will not engage. Disengaging the lock takes a lot of thumb pressure. So much that I turn it on its side to get a good thumb position on it. But its not a fidget knife. You do not want to use this knife in public. I'm checking it out as a backpacking knife. Really awesome for the price. I hope they come out with an AUS10 version of it.

The liner and lock ARE NOT PLASTIC!!

Love this knife! It’s pretty solid and is worth every penny. The reviewers saying the liner is plastic are wrong, use a magnet and find out for yourself. I’d like more if it were AUS 10 or a higher grade steel but honestly, it’s easy to sharpen and on a knife this big that probably an advantage.

Slow deployment lock issue solved

I wrote a review for this knife a while back. I mentioned the lock issue on slow blade deployment. I couldnt stand it any longer so I took the knife apart to fix the issue. The blade tang for the liner lock was horribly rough. Just awful machining on this. I used a Dremel tool to smooth it out and it now deploys perfectly with the slowest deployment. Don't know why Cold Steel has such bad machining on this but it is a very inexpensive knife. And now it's completely awesome!

Perfect design, no real issues

Wow, the 6 inch blade is what I have and the design is perfect. Self defense no problem. Hacking bushes no problem. The blade grind is very well thought out allowing for a svelte, long blade with ample meat almost to the tip. I have Emersons, Randalls, and many Cold Steel blades but this is my favorite EDC. I made a leather belt sheath for it and I never realize it is there till I need a big knife. If you are looking for a folder that, when deployed, feels like a bayonet, then this is THE ONE. My only complaint and possibly an idea for Cold Steel is to issue a more expensive version in CTS XHP and G10. With the already perfect design, better blade and handle material would make the perfect large folder in my opinion. Good job Cold Steel. We want an upgraded version!!!

Sharp Tool Against Beasts

I ordered this when I received a call from customer service saying that they could not fill one of the knives in my order. I took a quick look thru their website and chose this because the price was similar. That was the extent of my investigation. It's a pretty damn impressive knife. The opening and closing is a marvel. The plastic stuff (liner lock and clip) is certainly questionable. However, I feel quite safe with it when I am out for a walk. I haven't had to stab an attacking creature so far. In fact, I haven't been attacked at all. This knife carries easily in the back pocket of my jeans. I have no regrets about purchasing this knife. It gets more pocket time that most everything else that I own. I walk nearly every day. It occasionally gets a break when I carry my CS Holdout XL (~$100) or my TOPS Wild Bore Killer (`$100). For the price, I believe that this knife is uniquie--- in a good way.

very large at 13 inches but surprisingly flips well with the tab or stud although the stud is a bit sharp.remarkably this huge Chinese made knife doesn't have any other hot spots for me to complain about.the back spacer and handles are all smooth,the pocket clip rests on a downslope of the handle scale so you can barely tell it is there .the secondary lock works well and has just the right amount of jimping on it so it doesn't destroy your thumb.previuos reviews of the early releases said the tip of the blade would not tuck all the way into the end of the handle scales but I think they decided to shave off the top off the tip off the blade point so it would fit right.overall I think its a great collectors piece for 38 dollars and can be used for self defense for sure,this is a huge knife so the medium would be a large knife as well if you didn't want the foot long.

Nice Knife But with Plastic for Liner Lock

I like the design of the knife, but a major flaw is that it has PLASTIC liners instead of metal liners. This doesn’t seem to bold well for the long lasting durability or safety of the knife. In fact I saw a YouTube testing where the liner did break. Could my knife with the plastic liners be a knock off? I have never seen a knife made with plastic liners. Is there a way I could replace the plastic for metal liners? The plastic gets caught on the blade when trying to close the blade.

Too much lock travel for me.

The Luzon is a massive folder crafted from budget materials. I like the blade and handle design. Alphabet soup steel is what it is. Pocket clip looks incredibly cheap, and not very durable, but at least it’s comfortable, and isn’t going to shred your pockets unless you bend the clip and/or sand the G10 underneath the clip. Opening action is decent,nothing spectacular. I didn’t experience any lock stick, but I did experience lock travel. After 20 flips the lockup has gone from 40% out of box to touching the other side. I contacted the vendor I ordered from and they agreed on a full refund so I returned same day. If CS ever decides to upgrade the Luzon to the triad lock ,and a better quality steel, and pocket clip,I’ll try it out again, but that’s the only way. Looking back I should’ve just gone with another XL Voyager or Vaquero for only $20-25 more. The XL Voyager and Vaquero lineup are MUCH better quality and values for the money.

Cheap piece of crap

This knife is a cheap piece of junk. But everyone knows that, Cold Steel definitely knows that. I paid around 35 dollars for an XL CS folder, so I should have known that too. No need to detail all the things that make this junk, I'll just say it's roughly one small step above an MTech level knife. Yup. Better steel, slightly better construction, that's about it. Deployment is dangerous, locking is dangerous... It's junk. I own at least one version of every 5"+ CS folder. I almost threw my Luzon in the bushes today after it locked up. Only reason I didn't is because I didn't want someone to find it and hurt themselves on a crappy broken knife. If this is a sign of things to come from CS, count me out.

BUMMER !!! You can not flick this knife open. There is a 1/16" gap between the blade and the liner. If you flick the blade open the liner lock gets stuck in this gap on the far side of the blade. THIS LOCKS THE KNIFE UP IN THE OPEN POSITION. You will not close this knife without access to a toolbox. Warning: If you damage the tip of the liner lock the knife is useless and will never lock. PS. Need a shim between the blade and the liner to prevent the lock from sliding all the way over. CAUTION: I would not trust this lock without a shim. I don't know if a shim can even be installed without ruining the knife. I always enjoyed the satisfaction of flicking a lock blade with that commanding, Snap! But not this knife. You get what you pay for! Get the XL Espada! I did!

Owned 2 of these XL Luzons. Do yourself a favor and buy anything else from Cold Steel XL series knives. 1. Lock travels all the way over to the other side and gets jammed. 2. Flexy handles I have had cause the lock to diisengage from moderate use. 3. And my biggest fear. Sometimes if you fast open this knife. The lock will not engage in time. Which will cause the blade to snap back towards your fingers. Knife Center should sell these on clearance and discontinue selling the Luzon series. Dangerous junk.

Cold Steel needs to work on their customer service

I had bought this blade a while back. About a quarter inch of the tip of the blade completely snapped off when I gently stuck it into soft wood. I had reached out to Cold Steel right after this happened and no one got back to me. Not a good knife and not great customer service from Cold Steel. Buyer beware!
