Simple little knife, inexpensive, gets wicked sharp. I've used this as my fishing companion and it shows no corrosion from fresh water over the course of a year. A unique design that just works. Not at all a bush-craft knife if that's what you're looking for. The light weight would be working against you there. It could be used around camp for meal prep. I've used mine in the kitchen also and they would make great steak knives if you were so inclined; a bit rustic, maybe. The sheath? Blah, but it works well enough. Snaps in & out just fine; good retention on your pants or belt. No regrets here.
Finally ordered one of these a couple of seasons back, partially out of curiosity but also in hopes it might find a place in my "chuck box." It did. The blade came nasty sharp. The configuration of the handle, combined with the upsweep of the blade, provides enough knuckle clearance to let it play well with a cutting board. Meanwhile, the point is acute enough for tasks like coring a tomato. While it's really neither a chef knife nor a paring knife, if you were to have only one knife in your camp kitchen kit, you could do worse. I've got three -- but now I hardly use the other two. It strikes me this knife would also be very much at home in a tackle box, and other reviewers have praised its ability as a hunting knife. It seems robust enough for most duties around camp short of batoning (bring a hatchet); however, I feel its real forte is in processing food, fish and game. If you're looking for a fixed blade utility knife at this price point, I'd suggest looking at the Cold Steel Finn Bear or the Mora Companion. Some people aren't going to like the sheath, which is a plastic scabbard with a belt clip. I'm fine with it, and the sheaths on the Finn Bear and the Companion are nearly identical. Can't see how you could do better at this price point.

This is a handy little knife with a sharp blade and a retro design, and shape. It is light, and handy ,but one has to be careful to keep the booger hooks clear of the edge. It will cut! It has no guard, which is fine, just be careful. I like it! And it is made in Taiwan! Let's Go Brandon!
I trust Cold Steel with no questions, excellent quality. Knife Center has excellent delivery and customer service. I often get express delivery because I can't wait to get my new knives. This knife blade is bit larger than I expected and definitely has a point to it. I plan to use it for fishing and maybe game processing...point does concern me with gutting deer.
I was deer hunting when some hogs showed up. I was able to shoot three in about 45 seconds. They ran to me after I shot the first one. Just wasn’t their day. I used this knife to handle 2 while another guy did the third one. No problem and knife was still usably sharp after two. This is a good knife and for the price it’s a great knife.
This knife is great for everything from food prep to wood craving and not bad for light batoning. Cold steel really make quality knives and they will always remain my favorite knife maker.
For the money this is a great knife, but there are two issues. First, the grip is too slippery for my liking. I stippled mine with a soldering iron and it made a vast improvement. Second, the sheath is made cordura. I don't think it will last too long given this knife's sharp point and edge. Get or make a kydex sheath and that problem is solved. Despite these caveats I'd still recommend the knife, especially at this price.
I love this design! It’s an awesome little knife to have around the house and in the woods. I like the long sweeping belly and it’s pointy. I wish Cold Steel would recognize the potential of the design. Give it a “gripier” handle, perhaps similar to the mini tac but longer or a Warcraft handle. A better handle it would make a great self defense knife. Also a secure-ex sheath compatible with a techlok.
I bought this knife out of curiosity. Last weekend I used it for the first time. I used it running trot lines and also cleaning fish. It did very well on the fish. I had to cut a line off the boat prop and abused the knife against the steel prop. It wrecked the edge some but it sweetened right back up and stayed sharp after that. This knife is light and not too big. I'm sure it will work on deer just fine. It seems the simple pattern knives are just as good as they ever were. For the money you can't beat this knife. The sheath is nylon so it doesn't matter if it gets wet or you put a wet knife in it. Worry free.
Got this for my girlfriends camping bag. She loves it. Great size and weight for her. If I needed to skin game or fish I would borrow it from her... giving me the option to Cary a larger blade myself for a camp knife.
Purchased this knife because I knew Santa wouldn't bring it to me. The knife feels well and carries well. I've used the knife for whittling; as well as, cuting salami, sausage, cheese, and bread. Like I said in the title, this knife is an excellent every day carry knife, that I am very happpy with. The real test wil be... Will I still be happy with this knife in say six months? We'll see.
was skeptical about this knife when I ordered it, but had watched a video of a fellow down right beating on this knife while using it to build a fire.So i got it, it is absolutely great, distal tapered and razor sharp. can't decide if I want to use it or carry it for defense. The sheath is a deep hunting type, very well made and sewn(despite other reviews I read) the handle is very ergonomic, could be a bit more tactile, but no complaints.
For less than twenty dollars,you have a skinning,or craving knife that will hold it's edge. Great handle for all hand sizes. Wonderful gift for all ages.
this is a rugged yet thrifty knife. it was delivered extremely sharp and its holds an edge. I'll keep putting it through the paces but i belive this little knife is up to the task.
First off Knife Center ROCKS! "Great service". As for the knife, "love it". For the price I should of bought a second one. But its not a knife I would wear on my belt because it would eventually fall out if you wear hiking with it. This is a knife to keep tucked in your pack and take out for light camping chores or preparing food. The knife is hair shaving sharp out of the box, supper light weight, the sheath is made of good material but not tight fitting. Its the kind of knife you'll love to have, and if something happens to it you'll be sad its gone but its so cheap you'll probably go out and get another one as soon as you get home.
this knife is great, arrived razor sharp. hold a pretty good edge. i use i for light batoning and skinning. works great. the sheath is actually pretty good, holds the knife tight.i would highly recomend this knife!!

I am not the biggest fan of 4116 Krupp Stainless steel, seeing how it developed rust spots when I used a different knife with the same steel as this one at work, but that was my mistake, this knife I bought to collect and possibly use in an outdoor setting or urban environment as a self defense tool. That being said, the sheath sucked. Fail hammer was put down on that sheath. So I got a buddy of mine who works with leather make a sheath I designed for this blade and now it is really good. I can deploy the knife quickly and securely instead of having a sketchy grip with the first sheath.
I carry this when trout fishing. It is great for cleaning fish and came to me very sharp! I do leather work, so I will make one of my own sheaths. (the one that came with the knife is fine)
A wonderful little knife, at a great price. It's lightweight and well balanced, good for skinning and general cutting chores. The blade takes a very nice edge, and holds it. The handle is comfortable, in my opinion, and makes the knife maneuverable, easy to control, and allows for easy grip changes when used as a weapon. The offset nature of the blade to the handle doubles as a guard and prevents your hand from slipping forward onto the blade. The sheath, on the other hand, is crap. The belt loop, which is simply sewn on, started to come loose in the field and had to be wrapped in tape to prevent it from coming off entirely. The sheath, when new, held a reasonable amount of tension to secure the knife, but it has since slackened. When hiking with this knife I sometimes fear that it won't be there when I need it.
This is an excellent reproduction of an early trade knife in the frontier of the 17th Century. it was traded before there were specialty knives such as "Hunting Knives". In that period, when embarking on a hunt, a knife was taken from the kitchen for dressing and skinning a kill. This knife is a modern reproduction that serves one in the field well. It is pointy, yet will skin easily. On terms of self-defense, it will stab and slash well. Why is it that every time I read a review from someone in Marylad, they are negative? Is there something in the water there?
I use this knife daily on the farmstead and in the woods. The knife blade at 4-1/2 inches is large enough to handle just about any task, yet small enough not to be cumbersome. The steel takes an edge and holds it a more than reasonable amount of time and is easy to resharpen, especially with a diamond plate. The handle is comfortable for my average sized hand and will accept varied grips. As the choil is pronounced it will serve well in self-defense and keep one's hand off the blade. It's very pointy and will pierce with great ease and slash just as easily. I have also used this knife extensively in the kitchen where it performs very well. The only draw back is the sheath which is quite flimsy. I will replace it with a homemade leather sheath of pouch style. I prefer the pouch style for easy one handed and single motion draw. Over-all a great knife when one considers the cost. Beat on it and use it up if you can--it didn't cost much. It rivals the Mora's in cost and almost in performance.
The looks of this knife are great. It has a simple, sleek look that appeals to me very much. The back of the belly of the blade works as a guard to prevent your hand from slipping onto the blade. The 1-inch jimping on the spine of the blade is useful and feels great. The handle is rounded and comfortable. There is a hole for a cord in the handle. The tip is wicked sharp, but I'm sure you can tell by the pictures. I've got medium-to-small hands for a 6-foot male, and I can get all my fingers on the handle. If your hands are larger, this handle might be too small for you. As for the sharpness of the blade, I'm disappointed. While it's better than some knives out of the box, I still found the sharpness lacking. I performed paper and filled water bottle tests, and it failed both. With a fairly aggressive chop, it opened a 1-inch crack in the bottle, but it would not slice through. The sheath is okay for keeping the knife in, but it feels cheap. It hasn't fallen apart on me, but I've been careful with it. For the price of this knife, I'm happy it even comes with a sheath.
I own a more traditional Roach Belly which I use as a patch knife, but thought I'd see what a modern interpretation is like. What a pleasant surprise! The polypropylene handle is full, textured and perfectly sized for my medium/large hand. The blade is ideal for how I employ it -- cutting and peeling fruit. With the slightly bulbous handle it makes for a remarkably agile cutter. There is also nothing which would prevent this knife from functioning as a defensive tool. Because the handle angle is relatively neutral and the blade is upswept, one can employ a variety of grips. The sheath is simple but functional. Caution: It will take a set and become loose.
Knife is good for what I paid..... However, sheath is scary thin. It would be easy to push knife through sheath, in my opinion. Also, knife retention in sheath is hit and miss... I plan to use this for bench work, not to carry, since the sheath is so flimsy.
Great knife for the price. Blade was was sharp out of the box and light. However, it came with the worst sheath I have ever had. It fell apart immediately. I would pay a bit more for this knife with a decent sheath.
Nice blade for a little cash. Good size and decent sharpness out of the box. The handle is not so like able but I can overlook that at this price. Sharp but needs a little touch up. This knife might get some use at home at the dinner table but it should be a fine blade for light outdoor use. I will probably use it while fishing as a general purpose blade.
The knife is very good. Service from knife center was excellent!!! The knife is what you would expect from Cold Steel. Very sharp and built to last. The only down fall is the knife did not come with the sheath that was in the ad for the knife. I'm a little let down. But the knife is great. If it had came with the sheath that was advertised with the knife would be awesome
VERY light duty construction knife, with a disproportionately small handle. Interesting blade shape, but sloppy construction/grind details; multiple dents/dings and scratches on blade. For about $2 more, the Pendleton Light is a FAR better purchase. A much more solid knife, better handle all around (size and grip texture). Not recommended. Go with the Pendleton light.
