Great Knife, Little Expensive

Opening action is fast and responsive, handle is comfortable and lightweight, design is very nice. The only knock I can lay against it is the price, a little high but I feel like I get a decent amount for my money.

Rough start but worth it.

When I took this knife out of the box, it was hard to open, and the lock was da** near impossible to unlock. All triad locks are rough out of the box, but this one was super hard to release. My initial experience wasn't unlike some of the worst reviews here, and I considered sending it back, but then I got the bright idea of adding a little oil and that made a huge difference. After working the opening and locking mechanism for two days, it now opens, locks, and unlocks, as easy as any other Cold Steel folder I have (over 40), and it snaps open and locks positively without me having to flick it, and it's no harder to unlock than any other Cold Steel folder. It's now the best assisted opener I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. Didn't start out that way, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. The secondary lock also works great. Cold Steel must have gotten their QC together, because everything about the fit and finish on my model is excellent. Except for my initial experience, now that it's working the way it's supposed to, I really can't think of anything I don't like about this knife. Highly recommended, provided you're willing to take a little time to wear it in.

A respectable assisted opener that opens quickly with a push on the thumb stud and no need to include a wrist flick. Good size knife that fits comfortably in the hand. The knife comes with a new higher quality blade that is welcome and the overall quality is very good, a fine knife for the money.

By far the best knife over all! Price, quality, function, feel, looks just can't beat it! Most of us don't have a lot of $ but this might be the one and only one you will have to buy!

Pretty Awesome Assisted Opener

I've read some reviews about the swift not opening or only opening 3/4 of the way. Mine was like this at first but as I used it more it became the best assisted opener I've ever purchased. It's not designed like any other assisted opener so it takes some getting used to. Once you figure it out it's lightning fast, and the lock?...well, It's Tri-Ad, it's quality and I know this knife won't close on my hand or fingers, as other top name brand knives have.

I don't buy for 'pretty' but...

...CS could improve some things. Disappointing to see some reviews citing failures in the opening mechanism. I got it as an EDC to put in rotation for awhile and am overall pleased with the purchase since mine functions perfectly. The grind was not great but some time spent on the first sharpening cured that. Fit & finish aren't perfect but acceptable at this price. What I really don't understand is what I call the faux jimping on the lock & blade back. It's so smooth & widely spaced that it gains no additional purchase in any grip. Looks okay I guess. Just annoying that it has no function in my opinion. Overall satisfied for the money spent though. Good, large, rugged pocketknife that opens fast, locks up tight, and holds an edge.

Good knife

Awesome knife! Assisted works very good. Good steel. But overall quality is not very good, I mean inside the knife are many defects, unbeautiful edges. I do not think that this knife will work a long time . it does not inspire confidence. But now all is good.

Disappointing

I am very disappointed in the "assisted opening" it requires a great deal of pressure on the thumb tab to begin moving the blade from the closed position then it jumps but only to a 3/4 open position and requires a wrist flip to open it completely. My $20.00 Boy Scout knife opens more smoothly. The blade is nice and I like the style. The handle is comfortable and sturdy.

Cold steel hype

Once I saw this assisted opening knife from cold steel I knew I had to get one. Among opening the box I was impressed at the size vs. weight ratio. The knife feels awesome in the hand and is pretty sharp. Not as sharp as they claim but sharp enough for average use. My three gripes on this knife are price, edge grind angles, and a noticeable amount of roughness closing it. A knife that costs this much should be pretty smooth but upon closing this one, you'll notice it feels like the lock is riding real hard on the back of the blade. The angles at which this knife were sharpened are inferior. One side is about a 30 degree angle and the other maybe a 20. They are not centered either so sharpening will be an interesting task. Sure cold steel makes a strong lock but where is the attention to detail? Knives are much more enjoyable to the every day user when they are buttery smooth and perfectly sharpened. Especially at this price...

Another overhyped CS knife.

I was used to CS folders like their Recon and Voyager series not having the best attention to detail,fit/finish etc.,but this surprised me.For what i paid i was expecting so much more.Mine came with uneven grinds,slow opening action,(wrist flick),and has the craftsmanship and attention to detail often seen on $50-75 folders.I sent mine back for a refund.I own brands such as Proelia,Lion Steel,ZT,BenchMade,Spyderco,Dpx Gear to name a few,and the differences in overall craftsmanship,attention to detail,fit/finish and even steels are night/day difference when compared to CS's folders..I'm done with the hype,from now on if i'm spending over $100 on a folding knife it will not have CS's name on it..Let the teenagers and computer commando's drank the CS kool-aid,i'll grab me a beer..

1-pocket clip is good 2-scales are nice 3-has some side to side blade play 4-assisted opening mechanics are underpowered (will not open without wrist flip or being pointed straight down) Would have been an ok folder on it's own; but as an assisted opener it is a fail.

Very disappointed

I'm not sure if this a poor design or poor manufacturing. This is the hardest folding knife I have ever tried to open, when using the thumb peg you nearly have to impale your thumb with the peg to get the blade moving, then when the "assist" happens it only opens the blade to a 3/4 position and because the assist has jumped the blade away from your thumb you run the risk of slicing your thumb when you try to push the blade to the open position. I have several folding knives and I can open all of them faster then this assisted one.
