CTS steel, G10 handles, excellent design, a bargain. The longer handle, when pinky finger is in the ring, gives you the extension of a 5” blade. The weight of the blade is excellent for snap-cuts. Although not a true Karambit, this is a brilliant design for a defense weapon. The lock is not a issue. I like knowing I have a lock that won’t fail.
I can tell by reviews here and elsewhere, that the handle design is misunderstood. It is designed to give you the extension or reach of a longer blade. The knife’s intended use is a defensive or offensive weapon and I see no problems with the handle, whether overhand or underhand grip. The ring makes it a very secure fit to your hand. The lock can easily be filed down on your next cleaning, but will loosen over time. Al in all, I am very satisfied with this knife.
This knife exhibits the standard quality found in most Cold Steel products. Strong lockup, sharp blade out of the box and good quality finish. The only complaint that I have has to do with deployment. I use karambits in a reverse grip (blade down with ring on pointer finger). When drawn this way, the blade failed to deploy more often than not when drawn from my pocket (pants, coat) or from behind my belt. It lacked the "bite" that can be found on knives with the Emerson Wave feature (Fox, Spyderco). Also, trying to use the thumb stud to open will not work with this style grip. To correct this I ground the top of the blade (carefully so as not to over-heat it) to give a deeper pocket for deployment. This seems to have solved the issue. I'm surprised that Cold Steel didn't come across this issue and resolve it before release.
This product is designed for people with GIANT hands...it is far too large. I have medium to large hands and cannot use it. The locking mechanism is flawed and almost impossible to release, thus it is open all the time. I'm seeking a way to discard it in the rubbish in a manner that won't result in someone being injured. Cold Steel is off my list, will not buy their products again
