Underrated

I like to think of this as a heavy duty Delica. It isn't a fidget tool, but at the same time the audible sounds and the tactile feel of the triad lock opening and closing is addictive. It carries well in the pocket, and the ergos are well thought out. The most underrated part of this is Cold Steel's use of AUS10a. The steel holds up well and takes an edge like nobody's business.

Compact work knife

Very happy with this knife, especially for the price. Very well built. Zero blade play, perfect centering. I use it at work and as another reviewer stated,it's like a heavy duty Delica. I actually like it better. Would buy it again.

Great all around knife

This is my 3rd. Recon 1 the first 2 were the clip point version this is my 1st. Spear point and I highly recommend either version. Tough, outstanding lock up, easy to sharpen and good edge retention. What more can you ask for?

There's more to this little beauty than meets the eye.

This is my first Cold Steel knife. My first impression was the light weight and how solid it felt. So, I popped open the knife and looked inside and sure enough there are steel liners embedded in the GRN Handles. The next thing I noticed is that the blade is sharp enough to need no touch up. It's now a new EDC which carries like a fly weight, but works like a heavy weight. I like it so much that I'm ordering the next size up.

CS Mini Recon 1

Not a preferable blade steel but it will work. Good price point for what this is. Very excellent handle and proper tri ad lock.

Took a Little Warming Up Time

This is my only Cold Steel knife and when I first received it, I was kind of "meh." Definitely not a fidgety flipper and the shape seemed a little.... Weird. I decided it would go in my "beater" pile. Eventually I did a "Shabazz" on it and tore it completely down and serviced it. Built. Like. A. Freaking. Tank. The Tri-Ad system is the next best thing to a fixed blade. Impressive. After using it for a while, I started to notice how great the ergos were on the knife - think in the pocket, but feels great in the hand. The AUS-10A in the blade seems to hold up reasonably well, also. If you're thinking of buying a knife that you're actually going to use and abuse, I really don't think you can beat this thing.

it's OK

I wanted to love this because I have the full size Recon 1 and the Tuff Lite and hoped this would split the difference as a perfect EDC based on size, materials, price. However while both the full Recon 1 and Tuff Lite are great at their intended use, this is really best at carrying comfortably in the pocket and only mediocre at actually being used. It does everything passably but nothing very well (I don't need to pierce ever so the tip is wasted on me). The steel keeps a nice edge and I can resharpen quickly with only mediocre skill level on a cheap stone. However for the $68 I paid there superior options for a 3" all-rounder, or for nearly the same (2020) pricing you could buy the cheaper Tanto Mini Recon for utility/work AND a Rat II for EDC slicing. I have different thoughts on the Tanto model and reviewed that separately. I think this knife probably earns its third star for being just ok for enough people, but my overall feeling is disappointment. It should be better for the price and Cold Steel missed an opportunity to make this the winner it could have been.
