Good "One Hand Opening" Knife for the Outdoors
I have one of the original releases of the Cold Steel Grik, and have used it for years. I decided to write a review seeing only one other on the site. I notice that there now seems to be only one "pocket clip" and one "filler" for the other side, while my model had clips and fillers for both sides. I use the knife with both clips, finding the grip fills the hand much better and affords either left or right pocket carry as the need arrises. Note also that there is a set screw at the top of the blade that allows removal of the plastic thumb stud insert, making the blade free of the obstruction of a stud while much like a "Spydie Hole", actually making it easier to open. The AUS-8A blade is easily sharpened and holds a very good edge. The "thumb notch" and the spine area forward of that notch are both sharp enough to strike a ferrocerium rod. Overall, the Grik can make a good "one hand opening" knife for an outdoors person, given the strength of the Triad Lock, the squared sharpened areas of the spine, the general utility blade shape, and the strength of the blade and tip. I find the Grik a suitable knife for a hiker or backpacker, providing an adequate tool for most necessary field tasks.
