Amazing knife
This IS in a different style than vintage Cold Steels (I have a Gen 1 from 1995 - the one with the plastic pocket clip that soon stretched into an open position or broke off). This is a wonderful knife - It locks into my hand perfectly. I agree, I WOULD like to see it in some colors more useful to the wilderness (yellow, red, orange, etc.) Black, OD and Tan handled knives have a way of disappearing into the environment... It has a great lock, is surprisingly light, and I haven't managed to damage it at all yet. You make this in more colors, and I'll buy them, too. I DO hate the stud opening. I'd love an Goldeneye (since you can't do a Spydie-Hole) or something similar. Then it would be vanishingly close to perfect for me. I noticed another reviewer complaining about this knife not being the Vaquero. I'm not sure that's a fair reason to complain, but both are worthy blades :)

My “one knife”
On a recent trip I was showing my brother in-law a few knives I had picked up within the past few months: a Hogue Ballista, ESEE Xancudo, Boker Boxer, and Spyderco Smock, among others, when he asked me, “If you could only have one knife, which one would it be?” I surprised myself with how quickly and confidently I said, “My Cold Steel Voyager.” I’ll preface this by saying, it’s not a perfect knife. At the end of my first day with it I took off the pocket clip and filed down a majority of the aggressive handle texturing. I also reshaped the pocket clip…so it would actually work as a pocket clip instead of just a bound up piece of metal that kept the damn thing from catching onto my pocket. I’ve repaired a few small chips on the blade that may not have happened with a different steel. All that considered, it is the most reliable, hardworking folder I own. I’ve batoned with it, cut out drywall and duct, removed bush roots, and prepped meals. The high flat grind is utilitarian. The clip point pierces excellently. I trust the lock as much as the tang of most of my fixed blades. The AUS-10 strops up at night to make it your ready and steady tool again in the morning. I own a lot of knives. The Voyager isn’t a knife I show off, it’s the knife I put in my pocket when I have work to do.

This is an awesome knife, I was a little hesitant about getting it due to the size but after caring it for a few weeks I love it, its very solid it fills great in the hand I'm a M/L hand, being light makes a big deal in the pocket for a 4 inch blade but with the large pivot pin and the stainless steel liners I fill very safe using it for all kinds of tasks and the new AUS10A is awesome I've cut about 70 boxes and they where thick boxes numerus bushcrafting tasks and food prep the blade is still paper cutting sharp, I'm reconsidering my hole knife set up, if your still thinking about it, do it you want regret it.

The Cold Steel Voyager is the best all-around knife I have ever used. I have purchased several in case one goes missing. It's that essential to my EDC. Perfectly balanced feel and able to cover you in any role.

Hiking Knife
This is a good value, practical hiking knife. It is sharp, sturdy, and easy to hold. Lock back is solid. Surprisingly light weight for its size. Has a lanyard hole. Negatives: pocket clip - doesn't slide over fabric easily. Color - I wish the handle was a bright color, so I could find it easier in my backpack. Handle Grip: i am a female with small - medium hands. (glove size 6 1/2). There is a "bump" located between the ring finger and the little finger. I wish "the bump" was not there. I improved the grip by grinding off the bump and polishing the handle. All-in-All - this is a good outdoor knife built for work. I recommend it for the price.

Disappointing Beasts
I had been looking forward to the voyager series update in 2011. I own many of the generation 3 voyagers -- 3", 4", 5" clip point and tanto blade styles. Love the positive opening and lock ease of use. The 4" clip point and s-curse model vaquero are my principal EDC choices. The gen3s could be improved upon with slight handle redesigns and incorporation of the solid tri-ad lock. But the gen4s were a drastic overhaul. Gone is gen3 elegance. Enter gen4 beastliness. The 4" model choices do not offer currently an s-curve model. The 5.5" XL models are too large -- mine remains in its box. I am disappointed.
