I have 4 cold steel brand knifes and this one is used most as a EDC. I like their locking system. This blade has a sharp edge that stays sharp after being used every day and is easy to sharpen when needed.
Excellent blade, but with a narrow range of applications.
I've read many times that this blade style is best suited for defensive use and not much else. I never thought that would be the case, but the Vaquero's nogales style blade definitely does do some thing really well and not others. If you're trying to slice food on a cutting board, you really only ever get a tiny portion of the edge to use; if you're whittling, it tends to feel awkward. The Vaqueros are great for anything with a draw cut where you can use that inner curve, like slicing cardboard, slashing things, and cutting rope or bailing straps. The thin tip is great for stabbing, too. For general purpose, I'd reach for the clip point or even the tanto, which I also own. Blade steel is excellent and very similar to VG10 that Spyderco uses. I have yet to see it rust, it takes and holds a fantastic edge, and the stonewash finish is attractive. The tri-ad lock is ridiculously strong and the action when opening and closing is buttery smooth. You may need to smooth the iron cross grips under the pocket clip, but they are both grippy and comfortable. 10/10 if this is the blade style you like.
Well in all honesty this is only to swing at people. I mean for any other application it really isn't suited. That being said, it's just amazing. I am fond of these blades for how ridiculous they are. The handle is great, I can almost squeeze both hands onto it ergos are on point. The blade is just amazing kind of like the Spartans older skinnier brother. The pocket clip is terribly low on the knife making it stick out noticeably, but if removed out of the pocket it's definitely ALOT more noticeable so I guess that evens out. The scales are also manufactured by jaws n I had to go madman with a dremel to smooth it out. Easily flicked open for the ridiculous size of the blade and easily closed as well not to stiff of a lockup but still very solid, given the size it's also pretty light and the steel is easily sharpened to razor quality but doesn't hold an edge as well. Solid steel liners. Solid, light, and ridiculous, a must have.
