Another Cold Steel "Must-Have"

Fit and finish are tops, arrived very sharp, a few passes on the strop and it became hair-popping sharp. Handle is super-comfortable, even during long work sessions. The blade holds an edge very well - respectable amounts of use in 6 months of ownership, all that's been necessary have been strop touch-ups. A 'must have' for bushcraft, camping and/or hunting.

Better than I'd hoped

This is a working experience review. I've had this knife for a couple months, and gave it a better (for me) edge. Today I took it hiking with me to harvest some Fanwood. I had intended to use an axe, and machete to get to the wood, however I managed to forget the bag with them. Not to be deterred, I decided I'd just locate for later, and put my SRK to the test. I used it to thump logs, pry and shave off bark, pry apart rotted logs and stumps, chop away at wood surrounding fatwood, and finally chop away at the fatwood itself to harvest the chips and chuncks. When I got home I gave it a good cleaning, then checked the edge. Not even a glint on the edge! It still peeled off paper like it was fresh off a sharpening! I'll give it a stropping just because, and put it away until next adventure. I'm so stinking happy with this knife, that I may buy the master hunter too!

A fine knife

This is a fine knife--well designed and well made: good steel; sharp; good sheath; and a very good handle. I'm not sure how I'll use it. A smaller knife suits me better for field dressing and skinning, and I have a few of those. But this knife should be a good general purpose knife, rugged and suitable for hard use. And outstanding customer service, as usual!

Great as expected

Not as well finished as its old Japanese counterparts but a thinner stainless version. More slicey!😁

Good bug-out-bag knife

Over I like this knife. Wouldn’t be my first choice for an exclusively tactical knife or exclusively bushcraft, but it seems to be an OK hybrid of both…. Hence a good bug-out-bag knife. It is large but light weight. Handle is somewhat thin but good material…. grippy and comfortable. Good steel, good tactical blade that can pinch hit on a lot of other arenas. She is simple and decent quality. I have it 4 starts because the knife isn’t balance that good… front heavy. Also, the sheath dulls part of the blade reinserting. This is my first SRK. If the carbon steel SRK’s are built the same as this one they would definitely be a 5 star at the price they sell for. I have other high carbon blades and wanted something more rust resistant so went with this blade. I am considering purchasing some of the less expensive SRK knives for other family member big-out-bag knives.

Great as expected

Finish is a bit less flashy than its former Japanese counterparts, though this was expected. Sharp and sturdy, sheath fits well and does not dull the blade. Seems as though CS may be addressing that issue, but actual kydex has never caused me that problem. Knife is a bit thinner in plunge grind along with the tip. I wouldn't pry much of anything with it , San Mai or not
