Greatest all-purpose knife I've ever had

I've carried this knife daily for over a year and have used it for thousands of tasks in the woods and in daily life. I have never had a better survival/combat knife at any price point. - Monolithic construction is strongest possible design. The knife can be batonned through anything indefinitely and almost makes a hatchet obsolete. The tang junction is actually the strongest point of the whole knife, which is revolutionary. - Dimensions and weight are ideal for an EDC survival knife. It's about the largest knife that I can conceal under normal clothing and draw smoothly, but no larger. It's at the upper end of "combat" size, like a kabar, not quite a true Bowie knife, which is a good thing. - Steel and temper are ideal. The knife is easy to sharpen, yet holds an edge very well, and is seemingly indestructible. Corrosion has proven to be a non-issue due to the kydex sheath and blade coating. I'm usually a carbon purist, but 52100 has really grown on me. - The sheath is excellent, very secure, comfortable, and versatile. It doesn't dull the edge like some kydex sheaths do. - The factory edge grind and finish was very good and required very little improvement to bring it up to my standards. - Overall design is perfect both for wilderness use and combat. You have a straight hewing edge, ample belly for slicing food and skinning, and an acute but strong point for whittling and stabbing, no useless double edge or drag points. The full flat grind gives you rigidity with light weight, a broad batonning surface, and fine edge geometry. The design couldn't be meaningfully improved upon for any purpose. - You get a true crossgaurd, a rarity on full-tang knives. Most knives with guards have a structurally compromised tang. This provides complete security for aggressive thrusts, and the ability to stop or party another weapon such as a machete. For $70 this is possibly the highest value knife on the market. I got two of them. I think at this point I've put more use into this knife than into any other and I've had probably 50 or so knives in this general class from various manufacturers. It just might be "The One". I do recommend wrapping the grip with a tennis racket wrap though because it's kind of slippery otherwise.

Great knife with great improvements

The orginal Survivalist was ok, but the gold coating was not my thing, and it peeled off with just slight use. This new version is so much better. The coating is better, and the handles now have inserts, which make it way more comfortable in the hand. It's a big rugged knife, but it doesn't feel as heavy as it looks. Surprisingly quick in hand. It came pretty sharp, but with just a little stropping, it now cleanly slices phone book paper. You don't need to worry about breaking this thing. It's one solid piece of 52100 tool steel. It's made to take any abuse you can throw at it, so no need to baby it..baton away! Does a pretty good job at light chopping too! I was thinking of picking one up, because I'm a big blade lover, and a sucker for anything with a clip point, but when I saw this one was coming out, decided to wait for it, and I;m glad I did. The improvements were well worth the wait. They made a decent knife into a great knife. If you're a big blade fan like myself, grab one! Well worth every penny. The sheath is decent too..not the greatest one ever, but sufficient. I may kydex it, but I'm not in a big hurry..the stock model does the job. It does have a slight rattle, but it's not bad. The retention is strong enough you don't really need the retaining strap, but it does add a little extra security. 52100 is some pretty tough stuff, and in my experience, will hold an edge better than 1095. Many custom makers favor it for those reasons. It will rust, but the coating should help, and if you keep a little mineral oil or beeswax on it, you should be fine. I absolutely love it, and if you like big knives, you will too.

Better than the 36MC

I purchased the golden 36MC a while ago and have used it a fair bit. My wife wanted one too, so I bought her this one. (36MH) It is almost identical to the 36MC. Same great blade, quite sharp out of the box. But, it has scales. They are hard plastic, retained by 4 screws with a threaded spacer in between. Through 2 holes in the tang. Grip is way better on this one. I don't fear losing my grip on this, nearly as much. The handle/tang is different under the scales. The recess is more pronounced and more "sided" to fit the scales snuggly into place. I measured the weight. 410g (14.5oz) vs. the 36MC @ 518g (18oz). This is probably due to the extra material removed from the handle/tang to fit the scales into place. This also moves the balance point right at the quillions, vs. right behind the quillions on the 36MC. And its a dark grey coating on the blade. The only other difference is the retaining strap on the sheath is slightly longer because the scales stick out slightly from the handle/tang.

... this knife is the best production knife made! resembles the Cold Steel Recon Scout Knife. this UPDATED version fixed the few minor flaws that customers had an issue with. Fantastic sheath too. Holds a razor edge forever. abuse this knife and it will ask for more. Unbeatable & Indestructible. at this value price making this knife hard to pass up. Get One..

Tank tough scary sharp

Its a ReconScout sized knife but with a shorter handle. But not too short. Beautifully made and finished. Great sheath. But boy is it sharp. I lterally thru a plastic shopping bag in the air and slashed thru it. But the edge is robust not a scalpel but just as sharp. If you want a large camp knife or tac kit knife buy this. Ive carried a Recon Scout or an sr5 for years. This will be added to my kit now.
