Bad to the bone

Just got this baby from knifecenter and took it out for some use ,it came scary sharp, grinds and bevels where perfect, battoned through lots of hard wood made feathers has 90 degree spine for ferro rod the coating held up great the edge was absolutely unaffected ,that 3v is AMAZING stuff the sheath holds the knife well a little bit of side to side play but no big deal. Get this knife you won't regret it.

Good improvement

So the new steel itself is better for use as a survival knife, but an interesting and unexpected side effect is that since 3V is denser and heavier than the San Mai steel of my other SRK, it changes the balance and makes this one a better knife for light chopping and splitting jobs, whereas the San Mai steel version is balanced more like a fighter. I did have to sharpen it up a bit out of the box. I've found that with all the new cold steerl knives that use improved steel (3V or CTS) they don't come as sharp as Cold Steel knives used to be out of the box - I assume because these steels are harder to sharpen and the employees haven't gotten used to them yet.

Perfect

Great design, new steel. This is a new batch of super steels made by cpm that are on a different level. Nothing against aus-8 or San mai, both good steels. This stuff is what you want for extended stays at the arboreal motels. Only side note about this steel is it will pit with prolonged exposure to moisture; cold steel coated it and covered it in grease prior to shipping. That's the kind of stuff that separates great companies from greedy chain brands. My was arm shaving sharp out of box, not doctoring of edge required

One knife solution?

The SRK is a great all rounder, it's my main bush knife. The grip is non-slip, which is great in wet conditions, and the guard prevents the hand from slipping forward to the blade. I like that there's about an inch unsharpened so you can choke up for finer cuts, the blade is robust, but not too thick, the point is incredibly durable, and the brass lanyard hole is great for, again, wet conditions. The real star of the show is the blade steel. The CPM3V is without a doubt the most durable steel I've ever worked with. It takes a while to sharpen, but it takes and holds a finer edge than anything I've ever sharpened. I can feather-stick, baton, a little unwieldy for fine carving, but she'll do for most hard duty camp tasks. Haven't taken here hunting yet, but the fine point, hollow grind, and robust spine should make it a great field dresser. have to keep her oiled, or she gets some thin rust, but it comes off if I strop it on my belt, so it resists corrosion quite a bit better than most other non-stainless I've worked with. I live in a temperate rainforest, right near the ocean, so having a knife that holds up to the weather with basic maintenance is fantastic.

Good knife for the price

I split wood with this knife it's very nice feels grate and fast In hand very rugged knife the only reason it's not 5 of 5 is cause if the heat treatment I had minor edge problems after splitting logs not a big deal but my other cpm 3v would not of had this overall really good knife for the price but in my opinion I'd go for the San Mia3 if I could do it again

Cons: Overall Quality
Good steel not the best heat treatment it's not brittle from what I can tell but the edge retention is nothing compared to my barkriver cpm 3v or some others but for the price not bad at all I'd go with there San 3 if I could do it over again And the sheath is extremely tight the tightest I've even seen pro or con depends on you
