Some of these guys clearly have no clue what they are talking about 1)this knife is made in D2 steel 2)4116 is a stainless steel and it’s nothing like D2 3)D2 and CPM-D2 are different steels.D2 has been around for many years,CPM-D2 is a newer variant of D2 except it’s in a powered metallurgy form.CPM means “Crucible Particle Metallurgy”.most knives labeled D2 are regular D2,most knives in CPM-D2 will be labeled as such because it’s a step up from regular D2..with all that being said,the Cold Steel Leatherneck is a fine knife modeled after the legendary WW2 fighting knife made by Ka-Bar,Camillus and Case.unlike those knives the Leatherneck has been improved by replacing the stick tang with a full tang and making it in a thicker blade stock..some would even consider the D2 being an upgrade from the 1095 used in the knives from Ka-Bar,Camillus and Case.in some ways,I would say the D2 is an upgrade,D2 has better edge retention and its more corrosion resistant than 1095 but 1095 is tougher and less brittle and it’s much easier to sharpen than D2.if you like the style of the classic American WW2 knife this is an excellent knife to consider and you may get more of what you are looking for out of the Cold Steel Leatherneck than the originals that are still being produced by Ka-Bar and Case

All good

Most of the time, when I get a new knife, I have mixed feelings, even if most of them are positive. When I opened the box, and handled the knife, I was sure I made a good choice. The knife was well balanced, Had a good grip, was very sharp, had a good sheath. I would recommend this knife, for protection/survival.

Cold Steel Leatherneck SF With D2 Steel - Superb Quality!!!

High quality knife out of the factory. Razor sharp edge with tough D2 German Steel. The new knife profile offer more durability task in the wilderness. For the price with D2 steel is absolutely superb. Highly recommended.

Cold Steel Leatherneck-SF

I haven't put much wear on mine, but I've bought two of these Leatherneck-SF's, one was for my son. Two things I would rank much higher than similar knives from Kabar and Ontario, no matter how long they've been making them. The first is the handle and it's grip, which is way better than the others, and the second is the size and strength of the tang running through the handle to the butt-cap, it is much stronger, you can see how much larger it is, as it comes flush with the end of the cap. Buy this one and you'll see for yourself.

Cold Steel says it is D2 STEEL

Cold Steel site says D2 STEEL. Why would you cut the knife down because a non, Cold Steel, site, says is a different steel. I have the knife, it looks and feels quality.

This is D2 Steel, Contrary to Other Reviews

Several people are saying this knife isn't D2 steel. Not true. Run the Model # through Cold Steel's website and you'll see that it is D2. They have made the Leatherneck in several different steels; I have 3 of them, including the D2. D2 is a tough steel, somewhat rust resistant, a little hard to sharpen, but really strong and sharp. The only thing I don't like about the Cold Steel Leathernecks is the overly-rough grip. The Kabar grip is better in shape and texture. Otherwise, I prefer the Leatherneck.

Krupp 4116 is NOT D2

I like the knife, for the price, unfortunately, when I hear "D2" I automatically imagine that the knife is made with CPM D2 and obviously NOT its "German equally good tool steel called Krupp 4116" and I'm sure so does everybody else. These two steels are manufactured, hardened and heat treated differently, even though they might be very much alike in their basic chemical composition the end product is going to be VERY different when it comes to toughness, edge holding and it's ability to resist rust and stains... I was very disappointed when I noticed rust that I never noticed on my Milwaukee Hardline with the same use and time frame, also realizing shortly thereafter that it doesn't get as sharp as the D2 Milwaukee uses either. Basically, my only real beef with this knife and Cold Steel in general is that they are refusing to call spade a spade and, in the end, as good as this knife may be and as much as I like the company that made it... It's false advertising, pure and simple! Volvo is not sold as "Swedish Mercedes" and Ford Mustang isn't advertised as "Ford's Hellcat Equivalent" and so on and on.

Loose Guard

Knife Center is awesome! Great prices, quick turn time, awesome perks. The CS Leatherneck SF is for the most part a solid knife. I sent the 1st one back using the warranty the day after I received the knife because it was rattling right out of the box. The guard was loose. I received the 2nd knife from the warranty and while the guard didn't rattle it still moved when touched. I really wanted to like this knife.

Misleading!

Another vendor lists the steel as 4116. Unless CS makes another version with D2 as listed here, the D2 description is just totally wrong, as Oleg pointed out. He is too generous stating that the composition is the same. They are not at all similar! D2 has much more carbon, and there is no way that 4116 could possibly be hardened to the same level as D2. The knife is decently crafted, but being made of a seriously inferior steel, does not meet the standards of this style of knife. 1095 would have been a better choice.
