Good backup

Haven't got much use out if it yet. Appears rather small on site. Extremely thick for a knife that size. Handle is on the small side so I guess that's where spike comes from because you cant see any of the handle when holding it. Do not recommend for self defense for that reason. Retention is key. Sheath is good at that though. Has a sort of scandi bushcraft edge going. My first in that style. Bit on the heavy side for being a neck knife but not to bad. Not sure how the handle scales are placed on but I doubt they're to durable. They aren't to comfortable either.

Cold Steel’s designs are first class

I’ve had a drop point spike for about 6 months now and every time I pull it out of the sheath I think to myself that this is one badass little blade. It does everything that you would want to do with a small blade with a big blade attitude. This is a nearly perfect EDC tool. Its strong and sharp right out of the box. This knife really gets a 4.75. I personally think it’s long for a neck knife. If you don’t want to use the supplied chain, you will struggle trying to find the best way to rig the sheath. I guess I’m going to have to make my own. If you want to carry one as a back up defensive weapon get the Tanto.

cold steel neck knives

This knife is the second one I purchased,(I gave my first one too my nephew as a b-day present, needed replacement. These cold steel fixed blade knives are as close to perfect as I have found. These generation 2 are both durable and practicable. The design shows great understanding in edc use.( the first generation not so much). I carry this blade as edc back up to my carbon steel boot knife(made in usa). Made in usa always comes first in my book. I have the trail master bowie from a while back(made in usa) which sold me on cold steel products. It has seen heavy use.

smooth easy sharpening...great cutlery steel...surgical

I like it for cutting grapefruit sections and kitchen duties too....it seems pretty easy for a poor knife smith sharpening guy like myself to get a good sharp blade. I feel I got lucky... From the web: http://thesandtrap.com/u/36551/surgical In my experience of last 15 years in Surgical industry, we have found that the texture of German stainless steel is very smooth and is highly resistant to stains, and its because of tightly bounded molecules of elements, which occured only due to pressure and time, what ever you mix like chromium or other things they cant do the things which time and pressure has done in thousands of years, we used many kinds of steel in surgical instruments but what were the results, instruments break at a certain application of force, get stains, lost alignment, lost serrations quicker than german stainless. If to make them harder more chromium is added, then instead of bending they break, which was not in the case of german stainless. And thats why german stainless is expensive then all other stainless steels from all over the world.

Perfect minimalist...

I'd bought other minimalist knives but ended up gifting or returning them. They were either to small, cheaply manufactured or both. This Spike however is a keeper. It tucks away nicely in my waist line, right behind my belt. Too big in my opinion for a neck knife, but I had no intentions of carrying it in this fashion. I have numerous CS tools and have not regretted their purchase. For the price, you can't go wrong. Great utilitarian piece.

Very Nice!

You get your money's worth out of this little gem. First off, it's a good size for an all-around sportsman's knife, although a little slender. The blade is a useful size & shape & many would call the handle grippy. Well, it is nicely textured but more importantly to me it has that single-finger grip constriction that'll let you keep a good grip on the knife even if you oil it. The Krupp steel used in this knife is not a premium steel but it's pretty good for a knife in this price range. It holds an edge well enough for most uses, it's highly rust resistant, & easy to touch up. For the price it's a good deal. Note: I really like a lot of the entry level Cold Steel knives. There are a lot of great bargains to be had.

The exception to rule of size matters.

This little knife is a mini survival tool and has no equal for the price. I have worn neck knives for over 25 years of every design and this one is in a class of its own. The finish and precise ground blade is sharp, strong, and makes a perfect steak knife. It field dresses game, cleans fish, and will baton thru large saplings. The handle material provides a sure grip. This little knife makes a balanced throwing knife with the weight to penetrate to lethal depths. The sheath holds the blade very secure and fits the blade perfect. Throw away the neck chain and buy a pair of soft boot laces that will make wearing it much more comfortable. Neck chains are cold and will not conform to the sheath as well as a soft nylon boot lace. My knives are branded German (4116) Taiwan. If this is problem for you, that is too bad because this is a great little knife.

very good quality for the money

I was impressed with this knife! It is about the size of a steak knife, but much more sturdy. It is light weight but still seems robustly built. The quality was what I have come to expect from Cold Steel. I would make a good little belt knife if the sheath had some arrangement to attach to a belt.

Backup knife

Got the drop point for strength. A little.long for neck carry (I tried) will fit in boot ok. Came sharp strong and light with very nice sheath. Cant go wrong for 25 bucks throw it in your bug out bag glove box or boot.. Handle a bit rough but for last ditch weapon it will not slip.

Good basic knife.

I got this knife to carry "just in case". I wasn't expecting to be blown away--it seems like a good basic knife with a decent factory sharpness on it. Personally I wish I would have thought a bit more about the description as the handle is almost too short for me and I feel like I have small hands for an adult man. So buyer be aware (not beware) of this! That being said, I do like the grip shape and materials. The sheath seems as if it'll hold the knife securely. I wasn't expecting to be a fan of the ball chain necklace that came with it and I was right--fair play to Cold Steel it seems sturdy for ball chain! My major grip with the sheath which I could not tell from the pictures is that the holes meant to lash it to you boot laces or where ever/what ever are really small. At the moment I'm at a bit of a loss as how to carry it. Doesn't look like standard paracord will fit through them either. Maybe leather laces. Maybe will have to make something. Overall recommended as a basic knife.
