Awesome knife!

I own this knife and many other cold steel knives over the years. Carries easily and practically indestructible! Some people complain about the lock being too stiff. All of my Cold Steels from largest to smallest open and close easily and quickly with one hand. Some say the pocket clip is too tight. If so that takes 1 finger and about 3 seconds to adjust. You can’t go wrong with these knives!

Great knife that's nearly indestructible

You will break before you break this knife. Clip is the usual CS too tight to really use unless you flex it out a bit, but as thin as this knife is it's great for back pocket carry. These newer models will flick open easy enough but also one hand close. finger against the point on the guard, thumb on the triad lock, push the lock bar down, and the blade will fall with the finger choil against your finger. Boom, one handed close. Or boom, you just cut your hand off. Don't be a clutz. The edges of all the G10 are nicely rounded with the inside edges still being square but not sharp enough to dig into your hand. The blade has no jimping but the handle does some. The S35VN is easy to sharpen and strops back nice. Yet another CS product so overbuilt that you can go ham on it and the knife will likely laugh and ask if that's all you've got.

Another great classic from cold steel

I have a couple dozen CS folders in XHP and S35vn, though I do prefer XHP, their use of s35vn has shown to be a good working steel for me. Personally find the many negatives against s35vn to be silly. Because I prefer xhp and have multiples of each model I own I do use the s35vn versions and they hold a very good edge and better then most who use s35vn(cough ZT) folks ignore the negatives, it is a good premium steel. Now the g10 on this model is great, good texture but not the extremely rough texture used on the recon models. Great for those who like larger in hand feel with their knives. Like most triad lock CS they need a breaking period for the lock, and eventually the lock stick will subside (if it does have lock stick) yes the lock tension is heavy, part of why the lock is as secure as it is, with that said I do "soften or lighten" some of my CS lock tension with zero issues. Great heavy use knife.

Please don't listen to the negatives

The couple negative reviews here are ridiculous. People just have very weak hands or don't want a man's tool. Guys, I've had this knife for years and I can say it's the best all round folder you can get, bar none. I've had Benchmade knives break multiple times, I own several other brands, but this Lawman is 100% reliable and practical through the years. If I could only recommend one all purpose folding knife to anyone, this would be it hands down.

Great Folder

I was expecting a more clunky, overbuilt knife, but the American Lawman is slim and easy to carry. The triad lock is of course awesome. And this this comes sharp as a razor. So far I have only used it for lighter EDC tasks like zipping through cardboard, but I can tell it can do much, much more. I can't wait to try some outdoor functions.

If I could only have one folder, this would be it. Sturdy but not too heavy, great all purpose blade shape, nice!

Perfect knife for smart people

I find this knife very easy to use and appropriate for most cutting tasks. The handles are not overly grippy unless you are unusually sweaty for stress. I have purchased many Cold Steel knives and have never experienced any premature lock wear of any kind.

Perfect EDC

I bought this knife years ago when Cold Steel first released it. It has been in my pocket everyday for years. This knife holds an edge well, easily sharpened, and has been up to any task I could throw at it.

Not Bad At All

I mostly use the knife while doing housework, or when working in the yard. Recently I've actually been cutting a fair amount of nylon rope with it and it seems to do the job just fine. It feels pretty good in the hand, and it's certainly feels secure. No issues with the lock or the blade shape. The edge retention is OK, about where you'd expect for s35vn. One issue I do have with it is that the pocket clip isn't very good. I actually just took the clip off and it actually carries better in the pocket that way. In all, it's a good work knife and has a lot of value for the price.

American Lawman

Despite being a popular knife I didn't buy this one till now because of the steel change. Love CTP-XHP and have had OK at best experience with S35VN. I can say that my feeling on the steel choice hasn't not changed after owning this knife. Knife came hair popping sharp and ergos seemed good, but thinner then other cold steel knives I own. This is where things after using it for long periods of time created hot spots in the grip at least for me. The plus is it's a good size for EDC unlike other cold steel blades I own, the lock didn't stick right off the bat and need to be worn in like other, but out side of that was not very happy with this selection, granted cheaper then other options, but would rather pay more if it is better then this.

I wish it lasted

I liked this knife. But it took some time and now it's useless. The clip is impossible to use as the G10 is too grippy and the clip too tight. So you can't get it over the material on your pants. The lock is very stiff and firm and hard to open the knife. Having to squeeze the tri-ad lock back until your hard hurts to release the locking mechanism to release the knife. Doing that one time, trying to get the back bar to release slipping and the knife twisting in my hand and nearly taking a finger off. I bleed lots. The blade is very sharp from the factory. I finally thought the locking mechanism was getting easy to use and took the knife apart to cleann and discovered that the metal from the lock back wears on the blade as itnopen and closes and the blade steel is much stronger than the lock back. So after a couple of years of normal use the lock back is almost completely worn away the knife will no longer lock at all. So much for the famous tri-ad lock. After 3 years it is completely useless and so is the knife. Cold steel refuse to sell spares parts. So my money is wasted. The blade and the rest of the knife have years of service left in them. That they will now never see and I'll never buy Cold Steel again.
