Completely useless and utterly awesome
I've wanted this knife for more than 15 years and after all this time I finally pulled the trigger. I'm actually glad I waited because when I first wanted this knife it was available in aus 8 steel and now it comes in s35vn. Not that there is anything wrong with aus 8 for most edc knives, it's just s35vn is better and I'm not sure anyone would argue to the contrary. Well, I've been EDCing this beast for 9 months now and I've come to the conclusion that it is almost completely useless. Don't get me wrong, there are many videos where this knife is used to cut, slice, and baton and it does all these things with flying colors. The blade is big but not overly chunky and it is thin enough behind the edge to actually be useful in cutting and slicing chores, not a glorified prybar. So why is this knife almost useless then? Due to societal norms you would never take this knife out in public to use for a chore that would require a knife, legality issues not withstanding, non knife people will immediately be afraid of the wacko with an almost 17" pocket knife and if you are in the woods where it's acceptable to have a big blade you would better be served by a large fixed blade. There is only one real use for this beauty, and that is what it was originally developed for in Spain hundreds of years ago. It is a self-defense blade that can be concealed in most average length pockets. I personally love it. I pray to God I'll never have to use it in a self defense situation and I know that a gun would probably serve me better in that role. I do however appreciate the fact that if I was out at the office and had this on me and the spit hit the fan I'd have a blade that is concealable, fast deploying, and capable of skinning a moose as easily as splitting a whig. So yeah, it's an inappropriate blade for edc, and though it could be used as a survival knife, a fixed blade would be better...and yet, I will continue carrying it everyday, because you never know when you will be at work and the zombie apocalypse happens and you are forced into the woods for survival before you can get to your doomsday stash that you so meticulously prepared for this moment. If you are even seriously looking at this knife then I can say you are probably as ridiculous as me, and if you buy it, you are probably going to be every bit as happy!
