Great old western classic

I got this knife about a month ago, and it's a beauty. It came pretty sharp, and the fit and finish are great. I've taken it out to play in the woods, and it chops like a demon. Comfortable in my large size hands too. It looks good, cuts good, chops even better, and it's a classic design. The leather sheath is decent..not the highest quality, but absolutely fine. I'm in no hurry to buy a custom one for it for now., but may do so somewhere down the line. I do like the dangler on a knife this big, so kudos to them for that. It is kind of heavy, but that is to be expected for a knife this big. It IS a pretty big slab of steel after all. Cold Steel hit this one out of the park in my opinion.

Worth the Wait

All said and done, it took about 3 weeks to get the knife. The site was out of it. I consider it more like a sword then a knife. Very sharp blade. The handle has a rustic look to it. The sheath is designed to wear on a belt. I just tied the strings in the back. Much bigger then it looks in the picture. I'd recommend it!

Great Purchase

Just received my new CS Wild West Bowie. This knife is a testament to Cold Steels commitment to quality and price competitiveness. And the service provided by Knifecenter was outstanding. The blade itself is well polished and razor sharp. The knifes overall materials, fit and finish appear excellent. And the sheath...all leather and brass fitted...very nice. The knife, as a whole, presents a time in history before everything was synthetic. While I may never take this specific knife bushwhacking. Strapping it on gives the feel of walking a sandbar of the Mississippi, or the ramparts of an old Texas Spanish mission. Thanks again Cold Steel, and Knife Center.

Way better than a stick.

When you're getting down to a knife, Yes, this WILL DO just fine, thank you. Nothing wrong with the sheath, either. Weight is not an issue. It's a showpiece and just a pretty chunk of steel and brass. Form follows function.

Great knife

This is a fantastic knife. I don't know if it's shaving sharp or not, but it is plenty sharp and pointy as well as having a nice weight to chop through most anything with ease. It has very nice fit and finish and is quite thick. This is not too heavy to carry on a hike or hunting, which is what I use It for. I have an MTech Bowie that is monstrous-that knife is too heavy to carry regularly. This knife is a perfect compromise between size and heft and carry ability. It is light enough and secure enough in the hand to use as a machete and substantial enough to use as an axe or even for self defense against a large wild animal. I am thrilled with this knife.

It's a knife.

I guess, if you're going to a knife fight. Not much use for cutting a steak. Sheath is fine. Everything is fine. What is this knife for, again? If I ever needed something like this for defense I've already emptied a couple magazines. Seriously, pretty, fine materials. I would smooth out the handle on top if I actually used it. Mick's was bigger, anyway.

It’s All About The Blade….

The knife was definitely larger than I expected and I was pleased by the size. The blade stock thickness is always a big deal for me and this one comes in close to 3/16 which I think is perfect for this knife. Overall the quality seems pretty good but something about the rosewood scales seemed amiss. I am a guitar luthier and rosewood is always in my wood collection. Sadly…. My scales are NOT rosewood but simply a dyed whitish wood I’m guessing may be acacia wood . While acacia is nice hardwood; it is NOT what I payed for COLD STEEL. I think some of the older models were rosewood but I think more corners are being cut where they are being manufactured at. Some may read this and not care about fake rosewood handles but I believe you should get what you pay for and Cold Steel did not deliver on that. Another big turn off I’d that the handle is skeletonized and not just a little bit….. a lot. I’m surprised I haven’t seen any complaints on a handle breaking while chopping. Lastly, the blade was polished very nicely and was pretty sharp minus about an inch from the choil. I think the blade itself is fantastic. Nice knife for the collection but quality varies

Disappointed

I have purchased many Cold Steel products in the past, and most of their knives have been shaving sharp right out of the box. Not this one. And nowhere on the knife does it say Cold Steel. Even the box is ugly. My knife was made in India. The sheath is well designed and the leather is acceptable, but nothing special. The handle is comfortable. The overall impression of this knife is a lack of the quality that I have come to expect from their products. I can't comment on the steel as I have not used this knife yet, but I suspect that it is not up to CS standards. The brass guard has a blemish/stain. I just hate to see my favorite knife company go down this road.

Skeletonized tang

I was happy with the knife until I found out the tang was skeletonized now I don’t trust it I would rather the knife be heavy than weak.

Just good knife

Good overall quality for the price of the knife, however it's heavy. I don't consider weight a problem as I expected it: guys it's very heavy for belt carry and massive. It's more for fun but don't hike with it. It's solid and well constructed. Pretty knife and impressive. I feel like Aldo Raine when I hold it, my jaw goes forward automatically and I feel like scalping Nazis. Not sharpened or pointy as I would expect: just ok sharp. It's big but the handle is confortable. Sheath is not great, I had trouble at first to put the knife in and out, it's not fast to get it in/out: in an emergency it's a problem, you need 2 hands. (Fortunately for him Jim Bowie did not carry that knife in that sheath)
