Excellent for what it is

This design is based off the 1917 Naval Cutlass, which in turn was based off the Dutch Klewang. Which itself was an interpretation of an indigenous weapon often used as a jungle tool. Something just agile enough to fight with while being robust enough to chop and hack vegetation or ropes on a ship. The hand protection offered by the pierced plate is awesome and, in my opinion, an improvement on the solid basket of the 1917 Naval Cutlass or the cut out bars of the Dutch Klewang. And for those claiming this weapon is too heavy, it weighs in very close to the original specs for the 1917 Naval Cutlass. Faithful copy on that point.

Great cheap backyard cutter/ expensive machete

I use this for backyard cutting, and as a really expensive machete and i carry it everywhere it is legal to do so. the edge it came with was so so, touched up great on a worksharp. the finish is a bluing, so it will wear with use and time. Just reblue with some kind of cold blue. For what I use it for it's terrific. It chops like a dream, plenty of blade presence. Wish it had more distal taper, but overall not bad for mass production. POB isn't bad because of the heavy hilt, the construction... The guard will come loose after heavy cutting on things like trees and heavy vine, just tighten the nut on the bottom of the hilt.

Cold Steel 1917 Hybrid Cutlass

For the price this cutlass is a steal. It comes reasonably sharp and the not so ornate aesthetic is nice. If you don’t like the bluing on the blade and guard it will wear off with use or removal for a more traditional appearance. Being a cold steel product the balance is mediocre and there is a lot of weight in the blade. However for the uses of a cutlass and some upper body strength it should be no major problem. Overall I recommend it.
