One of my favorite knives

As of this review, I believe I have the only video on YouTube on this knife. There was a minor flaw in manufacturing the frog on the sheath. A sharp burr on a rivet scratched the brass guard, but I fixed that easily & didn't really affect my opinion of the knife much because I imagine it wouldn't take much to buff out the scratches. I love to hold this knife. It is beautiful in the hand & perhaps calling it a hand sword may be a better description of it. It didn't come sharp, but I can now slice paper after a few minutes on my Work Sharp & strop. Cold Steel will say it's not meant to baton and I love the way my CS Trail Master chops, but after some batoning the edge is still sharp. Even considering the minor flaw on the frog, I'm very happy with this sword, I mean knife.

Very pretty and an accurate representation of the times

This is a beautiful knife. It is made well (in India) and looks original to the period. It shows none of the poor worksmanship I have seen from other knives imported from similar locals. The knife and sheath are a class act. No its not razor sharp and should not be for what it is but it is good heavy steel. Well ground and polished. The handle is exquisite and I will have to fight myself off of taking it into the woods with my flintlock. It looks and feels 'right' . I bought it as a collectors piece and I will really try to stick with that. I am looking for ways to display it where it will still be convenient to handle. Because it needs to be handled to be believed. Wonderful historical blade.

A terrific recreation from Cold Steel!

I've just received my Rifleman knife,and frankly,I'm blown away by the look and quality of the thing,its undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and dramatic pieces that Cold Steel have ever put on the market!.I'd read a few of the complaints about small imperfections in the finish,I don't generally take too much notice of them,and I can say that I was right,once again, to ignore them,because my knife,sheath,and frog-the slip-on leather holder that attaches the knife and sheath to the belt-are absolutely perfect,flawless in every way! This Rifleman is also incredible value for money,maybe even the best on the market,and having given it my usual initial clean, now occupies Pride of Place in my collection. If you're thinking about getting one,do it now,you won't regret it! PS,I can't wait to receive my Frontier Bowie,which looks as if it has a similar provenance!!

Beautiful knife sheath! Knife overall quality is excellent! Blade needs to be sharpened upon arrival . Used a Arkansas stone to shave hair from arm.

Hoping for a Gen 2

I'm a collector, so quality and appearance are paramount to me. Since I already had Cold Steel's marvelous Frontier Bowie, which has a lot of look-alike features, I assumed, incorrectly, the Rifleman's would follow in fit and finish quality. Unfortunately, neither does. For example, the rivet that holds the belt loop on the frog is positioned to scratch the hell out of the knife's brass guard (I covered the rivet with a thin felt pad, but it will get knocked off if I'm not careful when sheathing) - there should be another thick layer of leather between the frog's loop and backing, to space the rivet away from the guard. Also, despite there being enough protective grease on the blade to lube 4 or more knives, there is a spot of corrosion under it - obviously the corrosion was there before the grease was applied, or the grease used is ineffective. However, the Frontier Bowie, which was what sold me on the Rifleman's pre-order, cost quite a lot more, so I accept that I got what I paid for in the Rifleman's. I would rather, though, to have paid extra and received another marvelous knife (if Cold Steel comes out with a "Gen 2" in the future, with better fit and finish, I'll scoop that one and flog this one). Overall: worth the price, and a great looking knife - - 'nuff said.
