If you have bad knees and like cool toys this cane is a must. I walk my dog late at nigjtcand the combination of stability and added protection makes it a no-brainer.

Very Impressed

This is a cane, yes, and it functions great as a cane. However, this is more. The spike you pull from inner part of the cane is a great weapon. It is well made, very durable, and extremely effective. There is no telling how many big holes one can put into an attacker. The point is sharp and 18 inches long. I have a sword cane from another manufacturer, but first you must unscrew the handle to pull out the blade (which btw, is impossible to sharpen). The time it takes to unscrew the sword, you have already been assaulted. With Cold Steel 88SCFE, one quick yank and you are ready. The body of the cane is nearly indestructible and makes a good weapon in and of itself. Great purchase, very happy

Great piece!

I have owned most all of Cold Steels sword canes and this one definitely seems to be all the good things about each one rolled into one cane. Very lightweight, very fast, sturdy as a cane, srurdy as a sword cane, no rattle, no dislodge, no flash...just deceiving simple by design. I like the non sharp edges so as to be more non-lethal and yet still has that tip for when you need to get "your point" across. Definitely highly recommend!

Handy Cane

It’s very well made and not too heavy. It’s a quality item but do I really need a sword cane? I live in the mountains with all kinds of wild critters and every morning going out to get the newspapers can be an adventure. I also have a trick back that doesn’t always like bending over to pick up the paper on a cold morning. No problem with the cane. Trash blowing into my yard from a nearby home being built. No problem, l have a spike that does the job.

Good for poking things

Bought this mostly for the novelty of it. But definitely see where it could come in handy in a pinch. Might be even make a great hot dog stick for the firepit.

A Gentleman's Trump Card!

As a person with walking disabilities, a cane or walking stick is a daily accessory of life. Unfortunately, many canes are unattractive, useless as a defensive measure or both. Cold steel has solved both these problems with this item. As a cane, it is VERY slim and elegant and looks to be to fragile as a decent walking aid. After using it for a few days, I was proven wrong. It supports my bulk nicely when I need it and is a joy to carry. Surprisingly strong, It is light in weight and the rubber tip give secure purchase on pavement and smooth services. When it arrived, I thought the grip handle would be much too small. After only a few minutes of use I could see why this design was used for so long. My only complaint was the "flashing" left from the plastic casting process that left a sharp ridge on the top and bottom. Some careful scraping with the edge of a very sharp knife took care of that problem in less then five minutes. After this was done, I found the grip to be very comfortable and useful. With a quick, sharp yank, the spike came free from the shaft with an audible "POP" sound. Without the need of a button release or threads, the 18" spike is ready for action. There is no edge, only a very sharp tip that can pierce very deeply through a variety of materials. It is also strong enough to deflect a blow from a knife or club without bending or breaking. Also, like a rapier, it is lightning quick on the attack and defense. The shaft, while hollow, also seems to be very strong and tough. One could deliver a rather painful strike with the head or the body of the shaft without even drawing the spike without damaging the cane. Without showing it's nasty side, most folks would only think of it as a simple gentleman's walking stick. Do check your state and local laws when taking it with you in public. For the asking price and if in the market for a sword cane for defense, this is one that is very hard to beat!

High quality and low cost!

Got this for my parents to have while walking their new dog. I liked the idea of a smaller lighter blade combined with the aluminum shaft as an emergency tool. It is so sturdy compared to other sword canes I’ve handled it makes many much more expensive canes look bad. The blade is a very solid round spike, and the handle shape is perfect for aggressive thrusting. I am certain it could easily break auto glass if needed. The strong aluminum shaft allows for strong but more passive defensive use to simply maintain distance from stray dogs etc. I think I’m going to cover the handle in leather before I gift it to them, just to provide a bit more purchase in a wet or muddy environment.

Awesome, but…

Awesome product, but when using as a cane, the handle is somewhat uncomfortable. The flashing ridge from the injection molding process needed to be addressed by sanding the ridge.
