Love it!

Some may think the head a bit large, but I find it perfect for walking, as it seems to reduce hand fatigue for me. Good heft, perfect length, great legal self defense tool if need be...if you get hit with it, goodnight. Love this walking-mace, and highly recommend it. Only problem, needs a rubber end cap....easily solved problem, though.

Great cane.

Due to a tumor doing a lot of damage to my spine, I need a cane. I found the African Walking Stick to be taller, more stylish and more sturdy than most other canes I tried in the past. I have 3 Cold Steel canes, the Walkabout, Heavy duty and African Walking Stick. The one suggestion I have for Cold Steel is putting a rubber foot on it.

I've alwys loved Cold Steel products, and this does not disappoint!

Great as a cane, nice and sturdy, simple design, heavy enough for self defense if needed, and comfortable in your hands no matter what you're doing with it. Overall great product that I would have bought years ago if I could but my circumstances didn't allow. I recommend ALL Cold Steel products!

Superior to Wood

When cold steel says that polypropylene is nearly indestructible, they aren't joking. I have hit 3/4 inch plywood with this thing as hard as I can and it only got a little scuffed. This cane can hold my weight perfectly while still being a highly effective weapon. The design makes the head heavy and the shaft thin enough to be swift but thick enough to withstand any abuse. Polypropylene also is impervious to water and any other liquid. It won't crack, warp, or fade. The only downside to polypropylene is that it isn't as rigid as wood. This is very minor, because it can still hold plenty of weight while being flexible. You can't beat the price for the quality. I would trust this over any costly wooden cane or baseball bat for self defense. Great job Cold Steel, yet again.

Great walking stick

It great walking stick when your out and about walking to help you navigate your way through the urban jungle. It is great for keeping on balance while walking in the city. It also great for self defense where it's use block and parrie or to disarm a knife wheeling tug.

Makes a Great Cudgeol

The thing is indestructible. At the same time it's head is far to big to be used as a walking stick. Makes for a great weapon tho. I cut 11-inches off the end and is a great club. I should not like to be on the receiving end of the thing. Cut it shorter for less recovery time after swinging it. If you do not understand this, then let it go. We have problems with home intrusions in our home that do not necessarily need a bullet to put someone down. It sits right next to my recliner. If there is a problem, my dog will distract him as I knock him out and dial 911. Life is good!

I had been shopping for something to assist me in getting around town. 3 things i was looking for were: #1 - It had to be legal. #2 - Not made of wood due to the potential for shattering. #3 - Self defense purposes if need be. Good,stout,possibly unbreakable walking stick.....my recommendation?Make the knob a smaller diameter,and/or.ane back that portion for a partial "pistol grip"....otherwise,great value for the money,with good utility.

The only neg thing I fount was it was a little thick and the head was a little large. I think if these to things were made a little smaller it would give the stick more speed when in use as a defensive tool and take nothing away from the strength of the stick. overall a high 4 stars! Thomas

Weapon in disguise.

I believe it to be as indestructible as Cold Steel says it is, but if you really need a cane for support, the faceted ball is too big to be held with a secure grip. The hard plastic tip has no traction on smooth surfaces, but that's easily fixed by getting a rubber cane tip at a drugstore or Home Depot. It doesn't look too bad at night and from a distance, but it's obviously plastic when you examine it up close. It's basically a thinly veiled weapon, but it will give you some support as a walking stick, if you don't expect too much. One thing is for sure: I wouldn't want to get hit with the thing.

Nice walking stick. Heavy enough to give good support. The only drawback is the head of the stick. It is very large so you need to have a good size hand to use this walking stick.

Effective for self defense.

I ordered this and the Walkabout. I was looking for a weapon that didn't look like a weapon. Of the two, the Walkabout is probably the most functional as a hiking staff, but the African Walking stick looks less like a weapon while, at the same time, being a more effective weapon. Another reviewer thought the ball at the top was too big. I wear an extra large glove and it's even a bit large for me, but this makes it more effective as a weapon. You hit something in the head with that ball and it's lights out. The nodes on the shaft give you a better purchase, so it won't slip out of your hands. Both sticks would be a lot better if they were brown or made out of wood. The black color just screams weapon. I'm thinking of painting the ball tan and the shaft brown. Neither one is very light. These are not dainty sticks. They are big and thick. These are clubs and clubs are effective and potentially deadly. Club beats a knife, gun beats a club.

A Good Cold Steel Stick Overall- a hidden cudgel.

I used this for a few weeks until today, as I cut the cane a bit too short for my height. The ball is tiresome to the hand when used all day; the offered protection is astounding Even when cut to a mere thirty one inches, it was fast, and hit like a freight train. Shipping from knifecenter.com and the pricing were excellent. The product arrived well packed, arriving duly in the time expected for delivery. No complaints aside from the ball; a rubber cane tip is highly suggested, likely a one inch diameter tip. This is not a toy; hitting a human WILL cause soft tissue damage, and even break bones. Shots to the knockout points with the ball will result in immediate incapacitation. The knobs are bulbous, and distribute the surface area over a greater degree, which is a good deterrent if one desires to use this can as a rod of correction, to cause the fool to rethink his folly. If you break this cane, you were acting silly. This is a good cane, if one is willing to make modifications to the handle; perhaps my next stick shall be a likewise superb quality Cold Steel City Stick.

great for peace of mind

I walk AM andPM, two dogs got too close for comfort one day. Now with this cane I am fearless. If the head was about one inch less in diameter it would be perfect but may loose some umph if an emergency arise. I would encourage my fellow seniors to get one. Didn't give 5 because of the head

Really, really big

First, knife center's service was impeccable, and the item was pretty much as represented. But it's hard to picture things sold online many times until you can inspect them in person. This stick is huge to the point of being out of proportion. I read the description and reviews carefully but was still surprised by the sheer mass of the thing. It's more like a baseball bat with a giant knob on the end. I consider it way too big to carry, both because the knob is too big for the hand (you can hold it, but imagine trying to grip a softball while expecting to lean on it for support), and because it's just visually wrong. It doesn't look like a cane, it looks like a giant cudgel. You sure won't be fooling anyone as to its purpose, you'll look like you're out to knock heads. It'd work for, say, Hagrid, but it'd have to be longer then and he'd still look like he was out for bloody vengeance. Nothing wrong with the product, it's just way too big. Going back.

This item is well constructed but I assumed the geodesic ball on the top was smaller, it is a bit to big to fit comfortably in my hand, it would be usefull as a defense tool.

Not a walking stick

This, and the Cold Steel "Irish Walking Stick" and all the other Cold Steel sticks? Weapons. Useless as any kind of help in walking. Basically, they're clubs in disguise. Nice to have if you walk in some parts of some cities, but if you actually need a cane to help you to walk, look elsewhere. I have a laminated wood cane with a useful grip that can support my weight and dissuade any idiot that thinks I'm helpless to boot. Forget Cold Steel's stuff.

The ball end is too big .It is like trying to use the big end of A softball bat asA CANE . It is very well made . Just make the ball a lot smaller.
