The best bug out bag knife on the market

The knife is affordable because its a single sheet of steel rolled on itself. No moving/soldered parts. Nothing to break. You can stash some gears in the hollow handle. The knife can be used as a spear/machete head. Versatile. Solid. Super light for its uses. Use it everyday or keep some in the truck, cabin, etc.

Awesome survival knife

For the price you can't beat the quality the knife is sharp out of the box, the sheath holds the knife tight no retention issues or rattling and the fire steel works good with striking it on the steel blade or you can wear a spot on the back of the knife through the coating to start a fire.

Impressed

When I opened the box, I realized that it was a little bigger than I had originally thought, but, all in all, exactly what I had expected. Weight and balance felt pretty close to perfect. Blade was pretty sharp already, I just made a few swipes with a stone and put a more finished edge on. Grip was as slick as I thought, so I wrapped skateboard tape around it. Feels great now. Took it hunting with me and a couple buddies and used it to help field dress a doe. Like I said earlier, it's a little big, but it performed perfectly. It something happens to it, I'm not out a lot of money and can easily replace it, so it stays in my vehicle now. The sheath was a pleasant surprise. It's minimal yet very functional, and holds the knife REALLY well. Had to learn to pull the knife handle in the opposite direction of the belt clip side, and then pull the knife out. I'm making it sound more complicated than it really is, but that's the smoothest way to draw the knife out, without pulling the sheath with it. If it even adds a 1/10 of a second to a draw, I'd be surprised. I have not tested the firesteel, yet. Overall, I really like this knife, and apparently, so did 4 of my friends and 1 of my uncles, who all went out and purchased one for themselves.

Great Value

Took this knife on a 3 day 2 nite canoe trip. It made fuzzy stix, and processed wood no problem. We caught some fish using banklines made with this knife. Great value for the money!!! My sons keepin this one. He loves it.

Ugly but good

The ease with which this knife converts to a spear or machete sets it head & shoulders above any other knife - it does everything a knife should do, but is a more formidable weapon, as well as a more useful chopping tool, than the rest. Easily the most versatile on the market, and the only one to get, regardless of price. Apart from that, it's price means I'm not hesitant about using it for things such as scraping mussels off rocks. A bit on the large side, but nevertheless a great buy. Gives a feeling of confidence

Can't Get Any Simpler

I'll just be using the blade as a general purpose bush knife, and it looks sturdy enough, although I haven't really gotten out to use it for that it yet. The plastic sheath is serviceable and holds the knife securely, but it's a different story trying to remove it in the cold (-10C) since the knife snaps in to lock in place. It's a real two handed job to unsheath it and probably not one that would work out very well when it's on your belt. The blade comes well sharpened. but I'll clean it up on my 1 inch belt sander and strop anyway. The fire steel would be OK in a pinch, but is too small to use normally. Overall, quite pleased with it so far.

Great knife

The Cold Steel Bushman is a great knife, it comes very sharp with a solid construction and nice functional sheath, I love it. The only downside is that the handle may get slippery when wet, however that can be fixed with a simple wrap, and with the price you cant complain. KnifeCenter.com has some of the best prices Ive seen, however I was not overly impressed with the packaging, but again thats just a minor complaint.

Value for money

This will be a camping/hiking knife. Blade has a good, useful shape. I like that it can be attached to a pole. I will cover the handle with a tacky material, maybe liquid rubber. As it has no hilt, wet or cold hands could slip onto the blade. BTW the blade comes pretty sharp. The sheath really captures the blade.

Good value knife, but a flawed sheath

This is a good and sturdy knife, thicker than I expected. Nice curve to the blade, full belly. The handle definitely needs grip tape or something on the handle, though. There is a little plastic piece that snaps into the Securex sheath, that holds the knife in. I had the knife on my belt and sat down. It twisted the plastic sheath, and that little piece popped out. I scuffed it with sand paper and JB Welded it back into place, but unfortunately, on my next outing, the piece was lost. The knife now pretty much falls out randomly, making it unsafe even for a simple camping tool, much less a bush knife. I really like Cold Steel products in general, the Pocket Bushman is my daily carry, but they screwed the pooch on this sheath. Get the old version, with the nylon sheath if you want one of these.
