Cold Steel's heavy hitter outperforms
I love this machete! I bought lots of machetes one year to experiment with all the design schemes and this one beat them all with not trouble at all. It is short enough to carry on a pack without getting tangled in tree branches but the wide blade gives it enough weight on the distal end to build up plenty of momentum for chopping. The steel takes a very keen edge as well so cutting grass is well within its capabilities. On a three day trip I found some tall grass that I thought would make good cordage, I got this tool out and discovered that the blade shape was conducive to harvesting large tufts of grass by simply sticking it into a clump and drawing it straight out. The narrow cross section does allow it to pass easily through just about anything. This tool is first thing I reach for every time there is serious outdoor work to be done and for the price, if you manage to tear one up you can replace it for very little. Do buy a sheath for it if you plan to pack it for no other reason than to protect other hear from its edge.
