This will cut

This would be great if I was doing some trail clearing work and got attacked by zombies. Pointed tip def makes this a weapon as well as a tool. Sharp, well-balanced and made. Great deal for the price.

Money well spent

Right out of the box the blade was sharp. The weight feels very controllable with only one hand. Definitely going to get the big brother and little sister to the wakizashi.

Favorite Cold Steel Machete

I've owned the CS Tactical Katana Machete for a year or so and it's great as a full-length sword, but it's pretty long for utility work or regular carry (I live way out in the country and I do carry these while hiking through the northern forest) and the handle texture is too gnarly. I just received the CS Tactical Wakizashi Machete today and it is absolutely perfect. Cold Steel reduced the aggressiveness of the handle texture to make it less like a monster truck tire and more like an actual wrapped handle coated in plastic. The blade length is perfect for regular defensive carry and for cutting ~1-inch branches, briars and weeds. The blade finish is the best I've ever seen on any CS machete: it looks like a black powder coat and/or possibly the same coating used on their tomahawk heads. The edge is nicely ground and very sharp (no flat spots), and all of the other edges of the metal (back of blade and guard) are smooth and properly finished. The sheath is the best nylon sheath I've ever seen from Cold Steel. It is very sturdy with a solid plastic bottom and feels like it may be padded between the layers of nylon. The retention strap fastens through the guard and doubles as the belt loop. The only change I would make is to give the sheath a shoulder strap like the Tactical Katana Machete, because this sheath can only be worn on a belt. Overall, this Wakizashi Machete seems more like a thin sword than part of the machete series. The quality is truly outstanding and it would be reasonable to pay two or three times the listed price for it.

A Great Bang For The Buck Product From Cold Steel

Over time, I've purchased a lot of items from Knife Center but this Wakizashi sword from Cold Steel is the best bang for the buck item that I have purchased so far. My order arrived earlier today (5/9/24) and was well packaged with a light coating of grease and in excellent condition. Upton inspecting it, I noticed a gap of about 1/8 in. from the hand guard to the handle. Other than that, everything was good. Before I go on, I do need to say that I view this item as a short sword and not a machete. That's what Wakizashis are, short Japanese style swords. My main purpose for purchasing this sword is for home self-defense, SHTF, and a zombie apocalypse ... LOL There are some reviewers that stated their Wakizashi blade was bent. Mine was very straight. and when I applied some pressure to it, it flexed a little but not much. The blade edge had a rough grind and wasn't sharp. But, for me, that's okay. I don't mind taking a few minutes sharpening blades. Everything felt solid. No hand guard rattling. There were also some that complained about the handle. I didn't find the handle to be a problem. It's a tough rubbery material with distinct contours on it. The nylon sheath is well made, simple, and matter of factly with a belt loop. It would of been better if it had came with a sling instead of a belt loop given it's length, but that's okay I can improvise. I paid about $45 for the Cold Steel Wakizashi sword and when I consider the overall quality of it, I got something that's is definitely worth much more than that. If you're into swords, you can't go wrong the this Cold Steel Wakiszashi!!!

Disappointed

Over the years, I have favored, and purchased multiple, Cold Steel products. However, this machete arrived with a couple of unacceptable issues. First the packing box was made from two cardboard boxes taped together. This bond was not sealed, and the top half of the combined boxes was flopping around open upon delivery. Additionally, the plastic packing sleeve containing the machete was slit at the top. The machete obviously had been removed from the packing. Secondly, Cold Steel claims this machete was sharpened at their Ventura, California location. The machete shipped to me has no edge whatsoever. I now have an 18-inch hammer. Very disappointed -- enough to reconsider future Cold Steel purchases.
