I'm a 78 year old retired farmer and have had a knife in my pocket for 70 of those years. During that time I have likely had to use a knife for anything a knife can be used for, outside of self defense. I have also had t use a knife for things it should have not been used for due to circumstance of the moment.
When we got into making big hay bales (as in 3'x4'x8') Th traditional 3 blade in the pocket stockman was not as useful as it could have been, You need a one handed knife to cut the strings and keep your sholder on the bale to keep it from collapsing. I got into locking folders then, but I have since concluded that a 3 blade stockman and a good locking folder is a better choice than one of either one.
I found this one when I was looking to update my aging stockman knives. I was immediately drawn to this one due to the apparent ability to use the torx screws to be able to clean and maintain the knife. Out of the box I was pretty impressed, Good solid knife, big enough for a good grip for harder use needs, the knife was sharp out of the box, and it is a pretty decently constructed and finished knife.
The reason for the 3hree star rating is the way too flimsy large clip point main blade. It is far too thin between the nail nick and the tip. I can literally bend the blade with my thumb and forefinger. My 78 year old hands have some arthritis, so this is NOT a good sign. I'll keep it, but I will never be confident to use that main blade fo any sort of hard use with out fear of it breaking off. It checks nearly all of the boxes in the pro side of the ledger, the 8cr13moc steel is fine for this price point, but the tip of the main blade is a definite Achilles heel. That blade geometry simply sucks...at least in this sample.
