Superb! (for the right tasks)
First, I've had this bench stone for over five years now. I've used it hundreds of times by now. BUT, I've ONLY used it for knives, so I don't know anything about using this for anything other than knives. Second, make sure you know what it is you're buying. That is, this stone is used for a knife that is already sharp enough to EASILY shave hair with. This is not for kitchen knives, or the like. Truthfully, this level of sharpness is rarely needed for any working knife. If you're unsure of what "grit" (or "mesh") values are, a 350 grit stone will easily sharpen a knife enough to shave hair; this one is 8000 grit! Use it after a 1000+ grit stone. Now, if you're looking for a stone that will get a knife just as sharp as you can get a piece of steel, well, this is it. In my opinion, IT WORKS WONDERFULLY. It reduces a tedious, long, process to about ten strokes per side. So, I highly regard this benchstone as it will get a knife sharper than most folks have ever seen a knife. Honestly, this will finish a knife to an edge that is MUCH sharper than a scalpel. It's impressive, I guarantee. But, then again, I have knife-sharpening OCD :) Good luck
