Tips for perfection

Kershaw Cannonball blade edge with a push on magazine paper edge cuts like nothing is there the entire length of blade.Step 1, purchase the x course Diafold to use with this kit and at least a 10x glass. Use setting 6, start with x course, move to course, then using the magnifying glass identify the areas that need more attention, Change guide setting to 7 for tip to 1/8 inch back from and set guide at 5 for the heel if needed and use the x course. Check your work often move to the course next to blend in the bevels. Once that is done move thru the stones from fine to xx fine. Last step use a Lansky strop loaded with green Marbles. 2 Hours work for those who are already experienced using clamp sharpeners.

Bought mainly for sharpening 6"-8" or so fresh water fillet knives only a few times a year but also use the kit for hunting, kitchen, utility and pocket knives. From my experience, the included hones won't bring back a really dull or rounded edge, but they certainly will put a razor edge on a maintained edge. I think a coarser hone can be purchased for neglected edges. Also, the plastic clamp seems to be more for medium blade thicknesses rather than the thin fillet types, but it still holds the grip. Maintaining the sharpening angle on each blade side works well, as does the magnetism when changing hones - there is no issue. On lesser width blades, if you aren't careful, the clamp and hone can interfere. Overall a great sharpening kit!

mostly good

I have used other DMT hones before and like them better than lansky, but like the aluminum lansky clamp better. bought Lansky clamp to use with this DMT set and works very well. Easy, consistent, and quick to use for everyday working knives
