Great Compact Stone

I wanted a stone of this size to fit into a leather knife sheath. I plan on making a sheath, like the Schrade Golden Spike, for my Ka-Bar. But I needed to find the right stone. This one works. Basic grit. Good size, albeit a little bigger than the one that might come in a leather sheath that includes a sharpening stone. It’s certainly bigger than the stone included with an Ontario 499 as well as a Golden spike, but for my purposes I can fit it easily into my sheath design. Overall, the stone is a great size for my purposes or edc/hiking etc, and mine did not have any deformities or chips. My sample is solid white and does not match the product photo, but that doesn’t bother me. Would purchase again.

Very nice wet stone

This is a good medium grit wet stone. I use it to sharpen my axe and cary with me for touchups - does a great job. Just make sure to read the dimensions in the description - much smaller in person than online :-)

Great addition to my everyday carry

This stone is great for minor maintenance on a blade. It can take rolls out and put a nice working finish on a blade quite quickly. A coworker once was having difficulty cutting with his knife as it had a wicked rolled edge. Whipped this bad boy out and within 5 minutes had a paper-cutting edge. Have a little water handy though as this stone is a bit on the thirsty side. I've had great success with this stone on 9Cr18MoV, D2 and S35VN.

great Stone

My father taught me to sharpen a knife on a stone by the time I was 12. There is no substitute. This stone is as good a stone as I have ever owned. I live just a few hours away from where this stone was quarried. Here in Arkansas, these stones are a tradition.

Arkansas stone-- medium grit

Handy size stone-- because of it's size, it's easy to take along, so it's always close at hand-- need to have a fine grit stone to compliment it

Worth giving up a coffee for

I’ve been trying to sharpen my Kershaw Leek on various sharpening systems and I couldn’t get it right even with the built in angle guide. This little stone made it sharp in a couple of minutes. Now I’m not saying other systems don’t work, I’m no professional nor handy to begin with, and maybe that’s why I couldn’t get it right with them. But what matters is finding what works for you and THIS is what works for me. For the price of a coffee it’s well worth it.

Make Dandy Gifts

Excellent product at a VERY low price. I buy these, in quantity, to give to dental hygienist students, who clean my teeth, to sharpen their instruments. They all use a synthetic sharpening stone that takes huge chunks out of their very expensive tools. The soft Arkansas stone does a better job and doesn't prematurely require the tool to be replaced, thus saving them many thousands of dollars over the course of their careers.

Perfect size and performance

I got this because it was cheap, also the fine ceramic sharpener i regularly use should just be for the final polish. This stone does great work in taking out small nicks or rolls in your blade. It is the perfect size, and can be used both for touch-ups, or for turning a hollow grind into a flat grind. Wasn’t sure if I should use it with water or oil, honestly it seems to work just as well when dry. I accidentally dropped mine, and it landed flat on the floor with a big *slap* and broke in half. On the bright side, it’s still usable, and now even more portable, but still I’m getting two more as spares because of how well it works. I absolutely recommend this as anybody’s first whetstone. Not for swords though, just knives and machetes

handy pocket stones for way cheap

Got two of them, one is slightly bigger than the other which is ok, these are not precision devices. Bigger weighs 44g, smaller weighs 40g.

Great for the price

it is soft so keep that in mind but works well for what it is and the price, just for touching up a blade without a bench. small size makes for easy carry in a pack.

Amazing bargain

I "threw this in" to a recent order and am very happy with it. For the price, I cannot imagine a better alternative. In fact, I am considering buying a stack of them for my Scouts.

It sharpen.

Ok. It's just a cheap stone. It's not fancy diamond or ceramic. It works on AUS 8 or 420. May work on O1. Have not tried on super steel like 3V, M360 or S90. Easy pack for a field trip. Diamond stones are better, but they are $$. My gut feeling is this is a water stone. If you are using it as an outdoor stone, done use oil. You cannot use oil and water.

It gets the job done and is easily portable

It may not be fancy or anything but is a great value. I take this hiking with me, it's lightweight, can get wet and still function. It's small enough to get you back to cutting quickly. It will strike a match even when wet. For the price, it can't be beaten, if I lose it or it breaks I won't be heartbroken. There is a reason why Arkansas stones are world-famous. Well worth it.

Well I wasn't paying attention so my fault completely although I thought it was going to be bigger and look different but with that said it's functional and useful.

Don't bother with this stone

I used it to try and sharpen dull knifes, but it is honestly useless and you are better off buying a different sharpening tool than this one. It's difficult to use and requires oil as well.
