Could have been 5 stars. . . . .
I have been a big fan of Estwing for years, so I was excited to get this. As a machete, it is much lighter then I expected and then it looks. If you love Estwing's hammer handles then you will love this one, it feels just like one of my trusty old Estwing framing hammers. It was very sharp out of the box except for a tiny burr along part of the edge, which came off with 45 second and a ceramic rod. Balance is excellent, also much better then I expected. Even though it is a little short and a little heavy for a machete (I generally like longer machetes that are fast and light) it will still cut small green weeds as well as thicker green wood. Does not handle dry wood all that well and I am not sure why, something about the grind I think. Why not 5 stars? Because the saw on the back is completely unsharpened. If your life depended on it, you could saw through something, but in any other situation you should just walk back to your tool shed a get a real saw. If Estwing starts sharpening the saw, then it would be 5 stars.
