Great to keep on a keychain

I keep this on my keychain and despite my brother and father's teasing that it is a useless hunk of metal I have found it to be quite useful. Originally I thought that the crowbar would be the most useful thing on it but I have found that the two screwdriver heads have been the most used so far. Gerber did a nice job with this product, I was worried that the screwdrivers wouldn't fit most screws but I haven't come across any that I haven't been able to use it for. Very nice multitool overall.

Really Awesome Little Multi-tool

I keep this on my keychain and it comes in super handy. Honestly got this thing to replace my plain old bottle-opener and could not be happier. Love how tough this little thing is, and its utility just makes it even better.

Never thought I could love a little piece of metal this much.

This little tool is what the Gerber Artifact should have been. I wear mine on a cord around my neck and the very first day I had it, it came in rather handy prying paint cans open — something I previously had to do (TRY to do) with the flat-head screwdriver on my multi-tool. With this little thing around my neck I'll never have to go to the trouble of opening and closing my multi-tool to open a bottle. I've already ordered another of these to have on hand in case I lost this one. It's a great little thing.

Very good keychain tool

I keep my keys on a carabiner clip and the shard fits very well and does not take up much room. I got mine from a local store and paid about 9 or 10 bucks for it (which is a bit much, but oh well). I've had it for a few months now and have used it several times.

simple, inexpensive excellence.

I've been waiting for this one since seeing prototype pictures well over a year ago. I've been carrying the older Gerber Artifact for a couple years, and it's an excellent tool, but I had no use for the Artifact's exacto blade, and it weighed down the keychain quite a bit. I'm pleased to report that the Shard is way lighter, way slimmer, and free of unnecessary tools. The bottle cap lifter works easily, the screwdriver and wire stripper functions work pretty well and this thing can pull nails and staples as well. My favorite use for a tool of this type is when a light prybar is needed and it'd be just stupid to use your $150+ Benchmade or Emerson as a prybar, the Gerber Shard excels in that role. This is the type of tool that you won't notice until it's needed, and the outstanding price, with Gerber's warranty make this one a no-brainer for a pared-down keychain tool.

Simple and Functional

Tough, simple tool that lives on my keyring. Great for quick little jobs where it's not worth scrabbling for a screwdriver or pry bar. Lifts sticky pins and strips wire as needed. Had it four years and the finish is wearing somewhat, but still in great shape. Wouldn't be without it and just ordered five more for friends and a couple in reserve for myself to stow in my flight bag and on my vehicle keychain.

Worth It

I work in a sterile environment at a government facility. Nada sharp and pointy, but they let me carry the Shard. One guard confiscated it once, but at 8 bucks big whoop. I had another in four days.

Chunk O' Metal

Is what it is...nothing Earth Shaking but does function as advertised and will go thru an airport check without issues. I cut my nails short and this thing is great for all those little tasks that you need an edge or prying action to complete. You can get away without it but it does come in handy for things and that is the point. Over priced for what it is but not a bad tool.

Not well thought out design

I agree with "Hard use" from Calif. The screwdriver tips are so thick, they are unusable. I had to file them down thinner. Instead of just a big round hole, why didn't they make it a quarter inch hexhead hole ?

Not handy

Not worth the money IMO. It is smaller than it should be, and the dimensions are off. The standard screwdriver head on the end of the prybar is too thick to use on any screws. The phillips tip on the other side is too thin/narrow to even seat properly in any #2 phillips. If you attempt to use it, you will strip the screw, or the shard. The bottle opener works, but is a little hard to use compared to other ones. The shard tries to do a lot, but it is really only a prybar and bottle opener.
