A nice tool

I use the product as a daily tool, as I work in a farm (to cut strings, packages, rope, etc...). It works well, it is really handy, and sharp. The little "saw" on the blade can be really usefull. However, the opening system seems a bit fragile. But that is a small detail and I might be too muchworry about little things.

Well Made Poor Design

Good Looking, and Solid, but the Thumb stud is too short to open without changing your grip, and the release lever may be locked,it has to be pushed down and slid forward to open the knife (or close it), and it may or may not stay there the next time you try to open it (It's always down after it's open(witch it should be)).

Pawn Shop Deal -Not So Much!

I was intrigued by the mini-covert & I figured I was a safe bet for $15.00. The knife appears to be new with one exception: no clip. Now that I've carried/handled the knife a little, I have come to the conclusion that Gerber (like many mass-production knife makers) just isn't the higher quality producer it once was. It is okay as a cheap cutting implement but, I won't buy another Gerber.

Decent little pocket knife

As with most people I carry my knives for utility as well as protection, the good thing about this knife is that it is compact, razor sharp out of the box, and spring assisted which make for quick deployment of the blade with one hand. As with all Gerber products the Quality is excellent. The problem I had was with the first model of this knife that I purchased which had a defective blade lock mechanism which failed to keep the knife open during strenuous work. Knife Center replaced the knife with another of the exact model and it has since been a great little pocket knife with no malfunctions as of yet.

Bought as a general purpose lightweight knife and because of the GERBER reputation. Easy to carry and open. This knife WILL NOT hold an edge. For holding an edge will take my very old and heavy Buck anyday.

Needs better quality control

The mini is not as well made as the full sized Covert. The thumb opener is checkered and uncomfortable to use. When new, it's stiff and can be hard to open. I've bought a few for myself and as gifts. Why? I like the design. It works well when broken in. I live in San Francisco and this knife is textbook legal to carry. Small enough to fit in my EDC rotation. I appreciate the assisted opening because my other hand is often filled with a camera or mike. Five stars if Gerber addressed the thumb assist and quality control. Oh, five stars to Knife Center for service and letting us write honest reviews.

I use a pocket knife every day for many purposes. I have wanted one of these for quite a while. It looks excellent at first glance. Over all it is a decent knife,,, what I don't like about mine is that it came out of the box needing to be sharpened. I have never received a new knife this dull. The action is some what meticulous.. doesn't always open when you push it. I don't like the clip placement and it does not move.

Gerber assisted opening

Found the assisted opening was a little raspy, applied some light lube and it did free up a little. Product is new so may "wear in" a little. The assist spring may need more tension?

Disappointing Gerber

I was under the mistaken impression this was a US made knife. Quality overall ok but try to avoid China made products whenever possible. Opens with difficulty. I will continue to carry my vastly superior Kershaw Blur instead. Also don't care for the serrated blade on the Gerber. This Gerber will stay in the dresser drawer.

I am rough with my knives. I need knives that can take a beating, and this isn't it. The pocket clip is always falling off, there is a lot of play in the blade, it sounds bad when opening, the scales are falling off, and the steel is very bad. After cutting a half inch pine branch, it was dull. And the thing is made in china, and you all know what that means - junk. I am a big fan of G-10 and the size of the knife is perfect. I am a hard worker, i cut wire, wood, rope, and all sorts of stuff, so I needed a tough knife; this wasn't it.

Does Nothing Well

The ideal tactical folder would serve well as a basic cutting tool, and as a back-up weapon. Col. Rex Applegate certainly had the self-defense application in mind when laying out the blue print for the Applegate-Fairbairn folders. I think a high-ground spearpoint blade dagger should be the ideal knife, but this one does nothing well. The edge is too short and thick to cut anything very well, and it is really too small to serve well as a backup weapon. Pass on this and get the really useful regular size Covert FAST which seems to do everything pretty well, or even the original Covert.
