this knife is the best knife i have purchased. the price @ KnifeCenter.com was the lowest i found. the quality of this gerber knife is outstanding. very sharp out of the box and holds an edge quite well. love the molle II sheath, looks good on my lbe vest.

Great SERE Knife

This well made unit from Gerber will be added to my collection of "Aircrew Survival&Egress" knives.I especially liked the isolated handle,which is very comfortable to use,even with wet or sweaty hands.Too,like the U.S. issue ASEK,the pointed pommel can be used for backhanded striking,or emergency vehicle side window glass breaking.Although the ASEK is a great military blade,this LMF II will fill that role with aplomb,and at about HALF the price! The built in sheath mounted sharpener is a real plus.For general camping or survival,this knife can't be beat.Buy it!

go-to knife

This is not the only knife I carry when I am in the field, but it is my must trusted go-to knife on my LBE. even though it is simple in design, I find that it meets all challenges effectively ; entrenching tool, hammer(with sheath on), pry (with sheath on), chopping, cutting, fighting. It does what it does well. crtk load this knife down with gimmicks, they just delivered a straight froward tactical knife that does it's job.

I have to agree with anothers' comment about the snaps but with some effort they work. Its more solid and beefier than the pictures convey & the blade locks in tight makeing the handle straps almost un-neccesary.With a fire steel attached this is an excellent survival blade/knife/tool. I've yet to truly test it but out of the box it feels like a tool for life. The price is right, for a priceless tool (in survival)

NEVER doubt a Gerber!

This knife is sheer power! I read one review that said it was "A good back up." This thing is NOT a back up!!! it is a beat-the-crap-out-of-me-and-dont-let-up knife! This knife can take anything! I have put it through a rigorous knife test and it didn't bat an eyelash!! This knife cannot be beat! I carry it hunting,hiking,camping and scouting! I LOVE USA MADE!!!!!!!!!!!

What an LMF

Product is nice and solid. Have nice sharp blade and the serrated part is excellent for opening things and for cutting rope etc. I like that the knife is held in with the two nodgels/grippers and that you don't need the two straps across the handles. Meaning you can get this knife out as quick as a flash for whatever the reason may be. Defo worth the money I think.

*Gerber Blades LMF II Sheath Issues* This knife is hugely popular with our Government Agencies and because of the strict testing requirements of this product; the sheath must pass a 10-G Gravity Test to withstand severe warfare conditions. Gerber is aware that the straps may be extremely difficult and are working towards a resolution. However, there is a way to “stretch” the straps, making them easier to use. # Make sure both straps that contain the snaps are “unsnapped” and open # Place your LMF II Knife fully into the sheath # Extract your knife back out of the sheath about a half an inch # Snap both straps around the smaller portions of the knife handle at this point # With the snaps fastened, push the knife back into the sheath # Allow approximately 24 hours for the straps to stretch After about 24 hours, your straps should have stretched to a more appropriate size allowing for easier functionality of the product. One Tough Blade!!

Couldn't find one single thing I didn't like about this knife and sheath. Well made, well fitted, confidence inspiring. Yes it has a little weight to it and fits tight in the sheath. I f you want a weak toothpick knife in a sloppy fit sheath look elsewhere.... If you want a well designed, American made piece or real survival gear that will not fail you buy the Gerber LMF!!

Very Good Knife

Very sharp right out of the box. Secured into the sheath very nicely. Little tuff to remove from sheath at first, but over time becomes easier. The sheath is a good material leg straps and all. The two straps that strap around the handle of the knife; while it is in the sheath are very hard to button at first. The buttons at first were so hard to button I thought that they would not work at all. I eventually secured the buttons and they work after the straps stretched for a while. The knife itself is very durable. I did some stress tests with some knife throwing and the knife performed perfectly. Holds its edge great and as I said is already very sharp out of the box. The leg straps are awesome, the only problem is if you have huge thighs the leg straps may not fit your thigh, even after extending the strap to its longest length . But these straps can fit your ankle and vest, so go that route. All and all a very good knife.

Simply a GREAT knife

Just a great knife form Gerber. I bought this knife in summer 2016 in tan color, after watching and reading a lot of reviews on the net. Since then I've used it in camping and outdoors, since I'm a Scouts Leader, mostly and I always have it into my backpacks, even for single day adventures. I did some realy hard use of it and never had any issues. The only thing that was a minor is that after some use of pulling it out of the sheath and putting it back, the point of the handle that is near the blade was weatherd, but I used some epoxy glue hardener and the "problem" is solved (use it as a tip). My overall verdict: BUY IT, USE IT, USE IT HARD

I am so glad I went this colour rather than the black. Knife is of excellent quality, I use it almost everyday and will continue to on my outdoor treks where ever they may take me. I am sure this knife will withstand all that I throw at it !

Heavy duty survival knife

This knife is well made, sturdy, and beefy. It can cut through just about anything with it's serrated edge, and strike through just about anything with it's combative butt end. Very popular and sought after at a reasonable price. A must have for survivalists and knife enthusiasts.

The Only Survival knife

I take this knife with me camping and Hiking. It is amazing it truly does everything it says it can do in the booklet. The hammer idea works I have used it several times it puts a couple marks on the back end but no big deal. The sharpener works well and you always have it with your knife which is great. The only down side is this model only comes with on strap to lock the sheath to the belt holder.

Good, light pack, secondary blade

I actually didn't get my knife from Knifecenter.com, but from a gun show. Still, it's a good secondary blade. Mine came with only one strap to hold down the hard sheath to the belt harness, so I actually carry it in just the hard sheath, it is enough to keep the knife secure. I have paracord wrapped around the hard sheath, and carry the whole thing, and just keep it in my pack. It is a good little utility blade, CAN BE USED AS A SURVIVAL BLADE if you have no other option), but it is NOT a primary knife. Good to have to just throw in your day pack, maybe not the best blade to carry on Extended Stay on account of significant weight for such a small knife. All in all, glad I got it, nice secondary knife for a good price.

LMF Review:

This is a well made knife with several useful features; I will detail the various aspects of this knife (and the good/bad points of them): The handle material is comfortable and affords good grip. It is somewhat "big" due to added material to prevent electrocution and due to the glass breaker, but is still comfortable (not a "fat" handle). The previously mentioned features are 2 major features of this Gerber. Note that the rubber material is prone to light scratching, so beware of continuously pulling open the 2 fastening straps whenever you take out the LMF. The overall quality is excellent: the blade came unscratched and with a good sharpness (it is sharp, without being too sharp and thin). There are 2 leg straps for attachment. No "rough spots" on the blade nor handle blemishes were present (blade coating was uniform and smooth); serrations were well made as well. The sheath had no flaws/rips. Based on this knife, there should be nothing to fear for the price tag. :-) The sheath is interesting: it allows various methods of attachment as expected. The sharpener is convenient, and having the straps comes in handy for aquatic uses. It is unlikely that the knife will ever fall out of the sheath; you will have to pull it out with strength! There are some issues though: adjusting the straps are somewhat tedious until they stretch out with time. The sheath has significant weight and size. Removing the knife can be a chore because of the tightness of the plastic retainer! This sheath is actually 2 sections: the plastic knife sheath, and the nylon backing that attaches it to the user. It can be removed if the plastic part will be tied to a vest or something, but it also could get a little loose after a lot of movement (it won't ever fall off, but would have a little bit of lift when trying to pull the knife out of the sheath). Materials used for the knife and sheath are very good. The sheath will resist weather, and the knife will be corrosion resistant even if the coating worn away. I believe the blade material switched to 420hc. Because it is not as hard as some other stainless steels, it will be less likely to break (and still be relatively high stainless), but will not hold a razor edge as long. The blade edge is good; there was no uneven sharpening, and the edge was centered. Serrations were sharp as well. The knife cut through a plastic water bottle in one swing. It is overall well built and good for survival use. The blade is pretty thick and overall design is robust, which will mean tradeoffs in areas like weight and bulk. Although heavy, there is no noticeable balance bias towards the blade or handle.

I experienced two problems with the model I received: the knife was not sharp out of the box, I corrected that on my diamond hone, and the first retaining strap on the sheath was so difficult to button that after an hour with pliers and sore fingers I decided to razor cut it off the sheath. The knife is held very solidly with a clip-friction fit and a second strap. After that the knife is excellent. The handle is exceptionally comfortable, the Sandvik steel sharpens up beautifully and the built in sharpener is a nice touch. This is an excellent utility knife that's tough and durable.

Incredible.

This knife is definitely worth the price! The blade remains quite sharp and as soon as I got it, I went fishing and slit salmon gills with it with ease, cutting through bone and everything else! It has the two straps that can attach the handle to the sheath, but the hard plastic sheath holds the knife so securely that the straps aren't needed. I would definitely recommend this knife to anyone! The weight makes it feel like a real knife, and I love the fact it's made in USA.

Great knife overall

The knife locked into the sheath so tight, an unsafe amount of force was needed to withdraw the knife from the sheath. I adjusted the "locking tab" on the sheath to solve the problem. The knife still rides quite securely. Handle safety straps are too tight. I removed the bottom one and removed 1/8" of the top strap past the snap button and it works better now. Reduces overlap. The blade is adequately sharp and easy to resharpen. I like the molle sheath design overall and handle material, hammer and electrical safety feature. No need for the leg straps. I read somewhere that the electrical feature saved a team in the sandbox. Had to cut power lines. And thank you thank you for keeping this made in the USA.

better than you've read or heard...it's a good knife...

good solid, big knife. hefty, but not overly heavy or bulky. good solid grip texture. nice design that is very useful in your hand. decent steel. holds a pretty good edge. built in sharpener in the sheath works farily well to maintain the edge in the field. it's a great knife, for the price point. i don't care for the molle sheath setup though. uncomfortable on a belt. i took just the plastic sheath part off and used paracord to attach it to my belt. much better than the sog style setup. ymmv though.

Great Buy at a Decent Price!

I purchased this knife a few weeks ago. I have since then taken it camping with me and have used it on numerous occasions such as trees limbs as well as cooked with it. The sharpener is not the best but it is convenient on the sheath.

Excellent knife, not a great sheath

Gerber's American made knives are excellent. Great combat or survival knife. I wish it came with a kydex sheath, or something other than the molle compatible one it came with. I don't go into the woods wearing a tactical vest.

I'm in the Army and used this knife during field training. The knife was very useful for opening MRE's and cutting 550 cord and other things but the blade doesnt keep an edge very well. The sharpner on the sheath comes in handy, I used to also sharpen the blade on my multitool. The black finish on the blade shows wear marks very easily.The thigh straps are way too small and the velcro on the sheath is weak and opens very easily. Handle has a great grip to it and the knife feels very balanced. Overall its a good knife , I just wish it would keep an edge better and the velcro on the sheath was of better quality and the thigh straps were larger.
