Built Like A Tank

I've read some have had problems with loose screws and a slow action but I have had no such problems. I'll admit when I first got it the action was sluggish but I put a couple drops of gun oil on the pivot point and "exercised" it a bit and it sped right up. You can also find spring upgrades for this auto online if needed. It's a top notch knife at a good price. Razor sharp out of the box. No worries.

Overall, the Gerber 06 auto folding knife is one of the best work / utility knife on the market today, solid construction , ease of use and dependability are top notch, no issues or problems, simply a great work knife at a great price.

Review after over a decade of daily use

I saw the single bad review and it may have been a one off issue. But I was given this knife as a Christmas gift in 2010. I’ve taken care of the knife as far as maintenance (gun oil applied to blade as needed, cleaning out pocket lint, etc.), but it’s a daily carry and used heavily. It’s the sharpest blade you can find without spending 2x - 3x as much. It holds its edge and is easily kept razor sharp using a whetstone. Mine has always opened fast which is impressive given the thickness and weight of the blade. I love that the pocket clip is properly orientated so when you place your hand on it, the button is at your thumb with the blade pointed down. All too many “tactical” knives are backwards. This one is not. I carry the knife inside my pocket with the clip only hanging outside my pocket. It’s a heavy knife and this both conceals and keeps it from getting pushed out when sitting down. It’s NOT a lightweight pocket knife. But I assure you it will shave just like a lighter, thinner blade only it holds its edge much longer. Highly recommend this AO knife.

My least favorite Auto

This is a big chunky product. I have 4 Gerber auto folders and 3 Microtechs and this one is the only one that feels to heavy. I would not carry it EDC but possibly in a bug out kind of situation where a nice OTF wouldn’t be rugged enough. It is a little slow opening because of the heavier blade but it’s built to last. Great edge and the fit and finish was great as expected. I would give it 3.5 stars. Not quite 4 but better than 3

Definitely not a benchmade

This knife is very heavy and very slow opening. I got the knife along with a Benchmade Auto , and was immediately disappointed. I called Gerber to address a couple of issues, one ☝️ being it’s slow and 2✌️ It’s missing a screw. I was quickly informed that I had no idea what I was talking about. I tried to email a picture but I was told to take it up with the knife center, where I purchased it. The cost of the screw had to be astronomical, plus they said I lost it. The threads in the hole were never used. As for the speed of it opening the gerber foundation, said it has to open that slow because I wouldn’t be able to control it. So I thanked them and simply stated, you are an idiot and I won’t buy another $180. Knife from your company. Thank you, and don’t bother sending me the screw either. As it won’t be needed as for I will carry my Benchmade.
