Not the fastest but a work horse.

This won't win fastest knife but is hands down a great knife. Its beefy enough for rough jobs and can handle moderate abuse. I like the option to pocket or sheath carry. One hand operation comes in very handy in a multitude of situations. It is big enough for my hand which I also like. Smaller knives may be easier to carry but most cause fumbling. That's not the case here. Big enough for secure grip and ease of deployment.

Best damn EDC knife ever.

I carried this knife for close to 15 years. I mean every day carry. I used and abused this knife. Used it to jump the solenoid on my old Ford. I cut everything from boxes to wire to tin. After over a decade of hard daily use. The knife showed its wear and tear but still functioned as designed. After 12 years it wouldn't open properly. So i took it apart cleaned it and made minor adjustments. After 14 years i had to repeat. I lost screws, and asked Gerber for new screws. Gerber sent me a brand new knife. P.s this knife saved my life on two occasions.

All time favorite knife!

I had been looking for a good, rugged knife that I could open one handed to replace my 06 FAST. I really liked the one I had but it could be difficult to open while my arms were full. When I started shopping the 06 Auto seemed the obvious choice. After a little more looking I found the 10th Anniversary edition and really liked it. When it came in I was amazed at how much better and sturdier it is compared to my old one. This one is USA made and made for hard use by the military and it certainly shows! The difference in quality is night and day! I have carried and used it daily for over a year now and it is just as rugged as the day I got it. The blade takes and keeps an edge well even after repeated cutting of cardboard boxes which kill the edge of lesser knives but thanks to the outstanding S30V steel this thing is unstoppable!. A drop of oil every once in awhile keeps the action smooth and fast. It is a large knife but I like the heft. I am 6'4", 250lbs so the weight doesn't bother me in the least. The handle fits near perfectly in my large hand. Last but not least I love the olive green handle and brushed finish on the blade. I LOVE this knife and I HIGHLY recommend it! It is fairly expensive but worth every penny, besides it truly is a lifetime purchase as I have zero doubt it will outlast me.

Extremely pleased

I have purchased over a dozen knives over the last couple of years for edc. Some are better than others as far as quality, comfort in pocket, pocket clip tension and design, ease of opening and closing, and overall balance and comfort in use. This is the best one yet. I didn’t think Gerber could compete with Spiderco, CRKT, Benchmade... but this was my best purchase yet. It was criticized in video for a slow open but over time I actually appreciate the slower swing, and the longer blade may explain that. Great knife; will be looking for more Gerber products.

New friend old feel

I have carried a version of this knife on my person through active duty as well as civilian life. I knew what to expect when I got the night it was a familiar feel strong and solid and confident it would do anything I needed it to do within reason.

Form meets function

Great knife. A must have for collectors. Always been a fan of Gerber Knives and this is no exception. Beautiful to display but no less a beast of a knife. Wouldn't think twice about taking this knife off the shelf and into whatever situation you might need it in. This is one heavy, tough, cutting machine that also looks great and performs smoothly. The only thing I might change on this knife would be to beef up the spring some. The action is smooth and fast, but seems off compared to how solid this knife is.

Great knife

I gave this knife a poor review... before I'd even used it. It's actually a very good knife. Solid, sturdy, durable are a few words I'd use to describe it. It fits phenomenally well in my hand --my hand. A little adjustment and the blade was slightly but noticeably quicker outta the gate. I shoulda tried-before-I-cried.

Gerber doesn't cheat

People make too much of a big deal of its comparative speed in opening. First of all, it's just barely slower than an AFO. Second of all, a lot of knife companies CHEAT by making their blade thinner or narrower or by putting holes in it in order to lighten it so it's snappier upon opening. But then you're left with a thinner, narrower or a blade with holes in it! Gerber gives you a FULL size, width and thickness blade at the expense of a few milliseconds in speed. I would make the trade for THIS blade anytime! My only gripe is this: I like that you can use the safety to help provide a little extra security to lock the blade open. But, in that locked-open state, with the safety on, the button does move if you push on it, about 1/3rd the distance it would take to unlock it before the safety stops it. I can't spot any reason why they can't have the safety lock that button more firmly when the blade is open. It probably doesn't matter, but it's not as confidence-inducing as it would be if that button was locked still when open.

06 Auto

I was impressed when I first took it out of the box but upon first try with the knife, the blade didn't open all the way. Played with it a quite a bit to see if it would loosen a bit upon repeated use but soon realized it would not. Was not a problem to fix as it just took an adjustment of the small screw that is located just in front of the lock to get it to fire completely. I also noticed the blade is not centered in the handle when closed. It doesn't actually touch the handle but still, would expect the blade to be centered on knife of this quality. To increase functionality of the knife, I ended up doing a complete disassembly, wiped down the internals, put a dab of grease on the part that touch and reassembled it. Once I got the screws adjusted right where the tension provided the best operation, I removed each screw and applied blue Loctite and tightened the screws to just where the knife functioned the fastest. Now the blade "snaps" out with force and it has minimal side to side movement when open. While the quality of the parts is excellent I I love the S30V blade, one would expect to not have to rework the knife to get it to function correctly. I understand that it is more of a utility knife by design but if I could change one thing on the build, it would be to have ball bearings for the blade to ride on as opposed to it riding on metal to metal. Knives I have that are built with ball bearings for the blade to ride on open smoother and super fast. Could be Gerber just needed to keep the cost down or maybe they decided not to go with ball bearings because use in fine sand might hamper the operation with ball bearings since the knife was designed for use by the military as a utility knife. Anyway, I gave it only three stars because I had to rebuild it and make adjustments just to get it to perform as it should have upon arrival.

Looks used

I have to agree with the others who gave this knife poor ratings. The blade comes out like a frightened turtle. To add to my disappointment, the knife looks used: the clip and safety show signs of wear, missing paint and scratches.

Got a lemon.

Just opened the box, first push of the button and it barely opens. Screw used to tighten blade tension appears to be damaged and there is a lot of play when the blade does lock. Spring seems weak compared to my original 06 Auto. Not impressed at all. Poor quality control.

Disappointing

Wanted a nice father and son purchase. Bought 2, returned 2. The uneven fitment of the pivot screws and lack luster blade deployment was truly disappointing. I was really excited about this knife based on the reviews and videos so I was kinda bumed these GERBERS were lemons. KNIFE CENTER WAS PHENOMINAL in their customer service when I requested to return them, so they get 5 STARS.
