It's All You Need

I have dozens of pocket knives and rotate them daily. I find I slip this little beauty into my pocket more often than most of them. It is light, strong and a phenomenal value. It's so light it disappears in my pocket until I need it. No frills, it doesn't have a sexy carbon fiber handle or SV249X10 Z plus steel, just good US made stainless and a comfortable GFN handle. Locks securely, razor sharp out of the package and for $20, I am not afraid to use it. I was doing a repair on some dishwasher drain hose the other day. My partner had his razor utility knife and couldn't cut through the tough rubber hose. I gave him my Gerber and it cut like a hot knife through butter. I also have the junior version that I keep on my key chain.Get one, get two, You won't be sorry.

A favorite

I’ve got a slew of great name brand folding knives. But the LST is the go to most every day. I carried the mini version all over the world (see my review on the ultralight page). But had a KA bar then for big jobs. Now, in the everyday world, this bigger (medium) size is a perfect stand alone EDC. And like it’s little brother holds up to fairly hard use more than you’d think for its amazing light weight. Which, makes it a joy to carry. The 420HC steel isn’t a knife world darling, but is easily sharpened & wears well. The grip is also hard to beat. The checking makes for a secure receipt between your thumb & forefinger. At the price, you can have a few in reserve, if one’s lost or you do manage to damage one of these proven work horses. I’ve tried many, but no other knife is a rival in terms of grip, size, and price. No sharp edges, and easy in the pocket. Smooth enough and sized to easily one-hand open with just a little practice. And made in USA. I’ve tried to update my EDC, but come back to this jewel agin and again.

I Love This Knife!

Inexpensive but not cheap. Strong, slim, small, sharp, easy to carry in your pocket. Great for everything from peeling an apple to opening a box to cutting through those annoying plastic containers that holds stuff like tools etc. Large enough for almost any use. I've been carrying this knife since the 1980's and is still my favorite. I have the brand name knife that cost $200 but afraid of losing it so it stays in a box at home. This knife for 20 bucks if lost won't break the bank. I'd recommend buying 2 so if you do lose one, you won't have to be inconvenienced with being without one. Holds a sharp blade. I've had knives that when I pulled out to use people freak out. This knife, people don't even really notice. Can't recommend this knife strongly enough. They also have a smaller version which would go on a keychain. For me that one is too small. Gerber's best knife!

Excellent value

I liked this knife so much I bought another one, in case I lose the first. It's easy to carry in my pocket and best of all holds a good edge. Unlike my last pocket knife, it doesn't seem to gum up with lint, and is always easy to open.

This original is still the best

This knife has been copied so much, but never replicated. Feels great in the hand, super lightweight and slim in the pocket, very positive lockup with zero play. It supposed to be a two handed opener, but it opens so smooth I find it’s easy to pinch the blade half open and then flick the handle the rest of the way to open one handed. Holds a fine edge reasonably well and very easy to sharpen. I’ve owned one since the late 80s and I recently lost it and had to replace it and was pleasantly surprised to find I could still get the exact same great knife. Had the new one a few months now and it’s just as good as the original.

awesome

I've been carrying one of these for 20 years, and have only had to replace it once - due to it being taken away at the airport - pre 911. It is small & flat and keeps an edge forever! I use it for everything from opening bottles to cutting rope. The point is as sharp as the day that I bought it. Perfection in a small package. Well Done!

LST still Going Strong!

The LST is a classic folder. It's Light, Strong and Tough. Sound familiar? For EDC, this LST is all one needs for general cutting. I wish Gerber made a larger LST with a pocket clip.

I had one of the knife before and lost it. I bought a knife that was similar to it but the quailty of the other brand was not as good as the gerber. I had bought the gerber online and love it just like the first one I had Light weight hold and edge very good nice and compact. I just wish it had a 3-3.5 inche blade.

Awesome, lightweight, fine quality blade

I had my first one about 5 years and lost it. I got another one about 12 years ago and it finally came apart and lost a spring and pin due to abuse. Had I not used it to pry sideways to open stuff, that wouldn't have happened. Here's what I like about it: 1. It is super lightweight with those plastic handles. 2. The stainless blade is first quality and really holds a razor sharp edge well. The blade looks like it's brand new, except you can see where the edge was honed a few times. I now own #3 LST. 4. The low price is great for such a good value and quality product. 5. Lifetime guarantee. 6. The handles make it easy to locate in a pocket full of keys, change, etc. 7. Size makes it legal to carry most places. 8. perfect balance and feel. 9. Opening it felt buttery smooth. 10. I collect knives and this is my favorite all time knife to carry 99% of the time. 11. Super easy to clean after using it to clean small game and fish, etc. Unlike other knives, there is never a lingering smell after cleaning it. 12. Stainless and plastic never needed oiling that i could remember.

Great lightweight knife. Wish they still came w/ the nylon pocket clip

I love this knife! I owned many (and lost many - TSA, ocean, ...). I t is very lightweight, sturdy and reliable. It weighs only 1.3 oz with the nylon pocket clip and screw. The only problem is that the nylon pocket clips are no longer available, and have not been available for many years. I carry my LST all the time. If you accidentally brush up again your expensive car, the nylon clip will not scratch the paint! C'mon, Gerber, start making the clips again!

Good substitute

I used to only carry the Gerber LST magnum Jr. Fantastic pocket knife. Kept it's edge, easy to open, light weight. Used it daily for opening packages, mail, cutting boxes down. I loved it for it's thicker handle and finger grips. I gave one to my wife and she loved it. After mistakenly BOTH having ours on us as we went through TSA, we had to give them up. No problem, they're under $20 so I'll just pick up some new ones. No such luck. Gerber stopped making them (WHY????). We were both devastated. So I resorted to this LST. At first I hated it. It's thinner handle felt feminine, and no finger grips. But the blade is the same one I loved from the magnum jr. Over time I've adjusted to the thinner handle, but also picked up a pair of new old stock magnums on ebay which I find myself not using for fear of losing them. This LST is a good substitute, excellent blade which retains it sharpness, and an overall handy pocket knife I have on me at all times (well, except for when going through TSA now).

Excellent value

This knife surpassed my expectations. It's extremely lightweight and easy to carry -- lays flat in my pocket. I was concerned that the 420HC steel wouldn't hold an edge as well as the Case pocket knife I'd been carrying, but so far, with light use, it's been comparable. I'll carry it another few weeks before I sign off on the edge, but so far I'm quite happy. When my personal "trial" period is over, I'll probably buy another one as a backup.

good light-duty pocket knife

Use for everyday stuff like opening boxes, mail, cutting small branches, etc. Lightweight with a good steel (same as buck knife steel). 3-finger handle allows for decent leverage when cutting. A little too big for dress pants.

Slices paper right out of the box

Though I prefer fixed blade knives, and nearly always carry one, I also like having a small folder for lighter chores, to save the fixed blade for emergencies or tasks requiring a stout blade and a full tang. I like that this knife is U.S. made, that it's sharp right from the factory, that it's incredibly light, and that the blade has no wobble. The knife is so light that I have to feel for it to make sure it's still in my jeans pocket. The jury is still out on how well the blade stays sharp with use (Hence four, not five, stars), but it cut paper right from the box, and that's a good start. Many years ago, I had and lost a Gerber Folding Sportsman 1, which was classier, though heavier. I still miss that old FS!, but am pleased with the LST.

A DECENT EDC !

A GOOD VALUE . PERFECT POCKET SIZE . IT HANDLES WELL . I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH ITS HONING AND SHARPNESS. THE BLADE POINT APPEARED TO HAVE SLIGHT BEND BECAUSE IT WAS NOT EVENLY FINISHED. I HAD TO SHARPEN AND FEATHER THE TIP BEFORE USING .
