Great to write or walk safely.
This is a very well made self defense tool. Writing with this is better than 99% of other tactical pens I own. They all kick a** but are not so great to write with. You should know that this model with the C has the tungston carbide glass breaker on the end above the clip. You would not want to use an ice pick grip with that sharp protrusion digging into your thumb.
