several features you wouldn't expect on a Helle

Full tang construction makes this one of the sturdiest Helle knives - most are rat-tailed tangs. The ergonomics are superb - it fits in your hand perfectly. You can feel that difference when you first pick it up. For reference, my hand is exactly 4 inches across. But, I don't think the size of your hand would make a lot of difference in the comfort level unless is was significantly larger. The other feature not found on other Helle knivs is the noggin-bonker. There's a triangular extension of the tang so you can use it for pounding. That is also where the lanyard hole is located. The knife blade shape is what surprised and delighted me. I like transition from the straight cutting edge to the tip to have more "belly" than most knives and that's how they designed this one. About the only thing they could improve on is probably the quality of the sheath - maybe use thicker leather. However, I liked the sheath just fine - I haven't bothered to upgrade.

Really like it.

I purchased one of these from Knife Center several years ago, and it was my first Helle. I really like the wood handle grips and red inserts. Would buy this knife again.

Excellent balance and finish

Bought this last summer looking for a light weight full tang life that could carve, baton wood and do anything my more survival capable knives (rat man du, ESEE 5, Ontario Ranger) in a more refined package. This knife can do all of it just as well, except it may be a more capable carver, and your non survivalist date won’t look at you sideways if you have it out on a hike to cut some sausage and cheese for lunches.

Very Poor Wood Selection on Mine

This knife looks amazing to me in all the online pictures and I was very much looking forward to receiving it in the mail today after it was finally back in stock. Unfortunately, the piece of wood chosen for my scales was horrible and just to add to that, the wood kinda seems like it might not be sealed/stabilized/treated in any way. If you like the design, you are better off buying their blanks when they are in stock and doing the handle yourself (seriously you’d save ~$160.00 and probably like it more).
