Better than Expected

I was pleasantly surprised when I received this knife today. The poly scales are better than expected. I have a number of knives (too many (-:) with every type of scale material made. These are no slouch considering the cost involved. They do not flex noticeably and have a nice dull texture. Not slick like I read on one review. To me, they feel about like my bugout with G10 scales. I do have a cheap knife with poly scales that are way inferior to these. The action is great. This blade is thin and the grind makes it definitely a slicer. I would be afraid to use one of these in a hard manner if it were 20cv. But, with the Magnacut it should do great. Time will tell. The stonewash finish on the blade is great as is the jimping on the back of the blade. The thumb studs are a little sharp but they will probably smooth off with time. And it came very sharp. My first Hogue. I heard that they came sharp, and this one certainly did. This knife it is about the size of a Bugout. The blade stock is quite a bit thinner. The scales are a little thicker. I like it better than my BHQ 20cv gray/green bugout, it cost less, and in new condition, the scales feel similar even though the bugout has fiberglass G10 scales. The clip is definitely made of weaker stuff, but that's not all bad. Sometimes a strong clip is a disadvantage to your pocket. I probably won't lose it from my pocket. Probably not good to clip on the outside of something, which I generally do not do. Overall, A great knife, Great new Steel, a bargain price.

First Hogue

Hogue, Magnacut, compound grind, modified Wharncliffe, a lot of firsts for me on this single knife. Very happy with them all! The edge was sharp out of the box, the blade opens and close easily after a short break-in, thin slicey tip, thicker near the handle for heavier cutting. Holding its edge really nice, dressed it once on a Knife Center crock stick, thinking of stropping it the next time to see how the edge comes out. As one reviewer stated, my thumb studs do have a little edge to them, but not that bad were I've addressed it yet. The un-linered poly handles are plenty stiff, no flex unless you really put a squeeze to it. Again, very happy with this purchase, a steal for a USA made Magnacut crossbar.

I love this knife

I love this knife so much I bought both blade options. This is a Benchmade Bugout killer if ever there was one. Just a better all round knife with awesome steel, great action & only the weight of a penny heavier than the Bugout. Buy one & see if you don't agree. They also came with some of the best factory edges I've purchased & I've bought a LOT of knives.

Almost there

Everything about this knife is great, with exception of the scales. Not enough texture and too light of a material, making the knife a little unbalanced and cheap feeling. If hogue offered this with aluminum scales, it would be a 10. Still a very solid choice if you use a knife every day. First purchase from knife center. No complaints with them.

Skip This Version

This is my first Hogue and I really want to like this knife, but it has a few meaningful flaws. First, the scales are worse than awful. They're actually slippery. Zero traction. Worst knife scales I've ever handled. They feel cheaper than most gas station knives. The diamond cut groves don't help with grip at all. Unacceptable. Second, the clip is so weak it barely touches the scale. That's somewhat fixable, but the top of the clip has so little space that it can't go fully over any of my jeans or most of my other pants. The space between the proud screws & the underside of the clip is minuscule. Between the slick scales, the weak clip tension & the inability to fully go into my pants, the knife feels like it could fall out easily. Unacceptable. Third, the thumb studs are so sharp that the first time I took them out of my pocket they caught onto my jeans and the knife partially deployed. The lock bar is just as sharp. Kind of hard on your fingers. I could probably sand them down a little but it would ruin the black finish. My fingers are tough enough, but I don't like a knife opening as I pull it out of my pocket. That only happened once though. The blade itself is wonderful. It's crazy thin & cuts beautifully. I like the stonewash finish and the action is excellent. Nice blade geometry with zero blade play & solid lockup. The blade is not centered though. Not a big deal to me, but not great either. I wouldn't recommend this version. If the scales were textured G10 or micarta & the clip fit over jeans & work pants, this would be a much better knife.
