Just got my Deka in the mail today, thank u Knife center. Well let me first say that the knife is very sharp out of the box the only thing that I could really say negative about it right now is that the scales are really cheap but than again u could always upgrade the scales, the knife is really light and feels like it has no weight to it, probably due to the cheap scales that come with it. I gave it a four star rating just based on out of the box experience, I plan on using it for my edc but I do know people that own this knife for medium use and they love it and everyone says get the aluminum scales for it and it will feel like a whole different knife, I guess we will see. The bottom line is I would recommend this knife for light to medium use. This is the second knife that I bought from knife center and there shipping is really fast just wanted to add that in,again this review is based on first impressions opening the box new

Great - just know what you are getting
I see where most of the complaints mentioned in other reviews come from but if we understand the intended use and purpose of this knife (direct competitor to the Bugout), the “shortfalls” of this knife make much more sense to me. It has very similar features in blade length, weight, and even does a great job copying the excellent attributes of the AXIS lock. It also has flexible handle scales like the baseline Bugout that are a result of prioritizing light weight over rigidity. If like me, you value minimal knife weight over extreme-use utility with the added benefit of superior blade materials at a lower cost than a baseline Bugout, then this knife may be a great option for you - if not, I would look elsewhere.

I was underwhelemed when I first held the knife. The flex and cheap feel of the scales doesn't inspire confidence. One can mark the material by scratching it with a fingernail :/ This is my first experience with Magnacut...love the steel, cuts well. I use it at work to cut insulation from wiring etc. The steel stays workably sharp for a long while. When needed it is easy to sharpen. The tip broke off. Little disappointed about that. Not abusing it at the time, never dropped. I had been using it for a project and picked it up between tasks off the bench and noticed it. I wasn't using it in a manner that would've caused that type of damage. If your looking for a light knife with excellent steel and great anti-rust maybe this is your knife. The lock is also excellent. This is now relegated to a broken knock around work knife.

Good knife, with caviots
This is a good knife, don't get me wrong. Barlock, Magnacut blade on washers and thin to boot for a decent price. Got to love that! But... the cheap plastic scales makes it feel cheap and flimsy. No way around that. I have this knife in G10 as well and it's a world of difference. G10 makes it stiffer and adds just enough weight to make it feel like quality. The next ding is Hogue really doesn't want you to disassemble this thing; Not for scale swaps or maintenance. They glob the locktight into the hinge. There's no dab about it. It's a tricky affair to disassemble the first time and if you ever have to send it in, they've already stated they will seal it shut again. This is just bad for knife owners and this particular blade. I'd buy it again, but not with the plastic scales. Spend more or get something else.

Almost Deka-ABLE
Pro's: * Magnacut is highly rust resistant * Nice blade geometry, 2 thumbs up. * Overall design feels nice in the hand, but may be a bit small/thin for some folks. Con's: * The scales truly are slick, and they feel cheap. * The back end of the knife needs some jimping, when you go to close the knife via the axis lock it slips out the back of your hand. * HRC 60-62 is a bit of a let down for overall edge retention. Thought's: * I bought it for my daughter, when I got it in hand I realized I had to spend another $70 on some G10 scales. Much Better. * The knife fits my daughters hand and her use case just about perfect. For me it would definitely be on the small/slim side for deployment and use. The take away here is that she loves it. She keeps it as part of her CERT kit. * Please adjust the tempering up to HRC 64-66 to best take advantage of the really nice blade geometry

Clip broke and lost knife
One day I went for my knife and NO knife, just gone. I bought another, same knife, I liked it. Then when I brushed against a cabinet handle the clip broke right off the 2nd new knife. I called Hogue, she said Hogue designs their clips to break so you won't rip your cloths. Are they kidding. She offered a new free new clip. I asked, the same breakable clip, she said yes. NO thanks. Hogue did not replace my first knife lost. I purchased a non-Hogue titanium clip separately at my own expense. Beware of Hogues break away clips if you don't like loosing the entire knife.
