Hogue Deka Review

I have been continuously impressed with Hogue’s quality and value for money. This is an awesome EDC knife. It is light and takes up very little space in my pocket. It came with a shaving edge (like all Hogues do). I love the ABLE. It is smooth and very easy to use and fidget friendly. Lastly, getting Magnacut at this price point is awesome. I now own 3 Hogues and will very likely buy more.

Great Value

Really love the feel of this knife. Great action, and the lock is spot on. Love the weight. One of the best value knives I ever purchased.

Hogue deka and magnacut is sweet

The magnacut steel is so nice. It sharps so easily and strop polishes much nicer than S30v. Magnacut is the way.👍

A better Bugout and a terrific price

Thin stock, thin behind the edge, but feels very solid for such a light knife. This is the perfect companion knife. Magnacut steel is tough like 3V and M4 (won't chip easily, it's more likely to roll, which is easily fixed), with edge holding and stainlessness like M390/20CV. It disappears in your pocket, won't rust on you, and came from the factory just perfect. Great factory edge, perfect centering, smooth action, and a deep carry clip comes stock. The polymer handles do feel "cheap", but the weight savings are significant ... the multiple standoffs and partial steel liners make it sturdy. I'm not worried about any handle failures. My normal "go-to" blade is a Bradford Guardian 3.5 fixed (also in Magnacut). The steel has already proven itself to me in edge retention, toughness, and ease of sharpening. I was waiting for months on my pre-order for a good companion folder in Magnacut with a slicing profile, and that's exactly what this is. A thin slicer with a tool steel that lets you push the angle or work harder than yours think a knife this light could handle. No batoning or striking for this one, but as a cooking, woodcraft, cordage, and precision knife, I can't imagine doing any better at twice the price. Hogue, well done. You've convinced me not to pay the butterfly tax on folders. The ABLE lock feels more solid than the AXIS, and the price, quality control, and steel used makes this one hell of a bargain.

Benchmade step up or come down $$

Been carrying this knife everyday since I got it I've cut so many things rope, boxes, rags, zip ties, letters, tons of cord, and I must say this blade is still sharp as I got it. Well done hogue I enjoy your knives your prices are unbelievable for this type of steel 👏 I have many blades I always reach for my deka it's a must have for anyone who wants to enjoy this magnacut steel without spending a fortune. Bottom line the hogue deka is an excellent choice for edc use it can't be beat.

Bought it for the blade

I only bought this to get the blade, because the CPM-20CV in my red one was disappointing. I mean it's good, just not great like it's supposed to be. My other ECD is a $20 Buck 112 which holds an edge much better. The other issue is the blade has a dent where the stop pin contacts it so now the blade lockup is loose. Makes me think they F'd up the heat treat. I'm only doing this because otherwise I really like the knife, as far as looks, feel, the action etc. I don't expect much of this hyped up MagnaCut but I am curious to find out how it compares. Fyi I had to replace the springs on my red one after 15 months, so if you notice it feels limp, you lost one spring, and you'll know it when the other goes. Rather than deal with hassle of getting replacements I just made my own from .6mm music wire. It's been 24 months and so far so good.

MagnaCut

I got the knife due to MagnaCut, being a Hogue, and USA made. It is good slicey knife, good size, feels good in the hand, I immediately didn't like the scales. This may be do to how I've gotten a little bit snobby with all the knives I bought. If it were my first knife I'd be ecstatic, but I've progressed to a collection now. I definitely think this is a good knife but I ordered new scales from AWT. Even with the ones on it now it is fine to use. The ones I've ordered give it just a little more weight. So if you want it as light as you can get these are them. The ones coming in are textured aluminum. Different look different feel.

Not as nice as I thought it would be.

I have had this knife for a bit, here are the pros vs cons. Pros: Magnacut steel Able Lock Action is good Cons: Too thin of steel for my liking Cheap feel in the hand due to plastic scales Not balanced well(Probably due to the cheap scales) Cost for what you get The lock and the blade material are the best part. Blade is very thin and slicey if you like that. I do not like that thin of a blade on an EDC, I prefer a blade that is at least .120, this is .09 and is far to thin and feels cheap to me. Handles are by far the worst thing about this knife and the main reason for the 3 stars. If I would have known I would have paid the $30-$40 extra to get the G10 G-Mascus version(which is what I suggest you buy if you are looking). I'll one day buy aftermarket scales for this and upgrade it to a knife that WANT to carry.

The clip breaks!

I lost the first out of my pocket not knowing how and bought another. Then the second knife clip broke and I realized that the first knife clip broke and fell out of my pocket. Calling Hogue they actually said they design their clips to break so it doesn't rip your clothing! WTF. Are they kidding! They would only send two replacement clips. I bought a non-Hogue clip for the knife and the Hogue break-away clips sit in a drawer. I'll not be buying any Hogue knives in the future. If you like your knife to stay in your pocket, Beware!
