Outstanding Knife, Outstanding Sheath.

I just got this knife today, and first impression was amazement. The knife is surprisingly easy to wield despite its weight, and is very comfortable in the hand. The blade has a sort of downward angle, which gives it a forward weight that would be great for chopping wood, and good angle for deep slicing attacks for a deployment/combat knife...it also has a reinforced tip, that I imagine would take some real work to break. The description says "Storage Area and Wrench" ...the description is wrong; there is NO BUILT-IN WRENCH on the coco-bolo model, which I was happy to learn. I believe the Storage Area and Wrench is reserved only for the "G-Mascus" models. I have to say the Coco-Bolo is really quite beautiful, with some deep figure in the wood grain. I've been collecting knives for many years now, and this is hands down the most capable fixed-blade I own. I have no negative reviews of the knife. It seems like a reasonable price for such high quality. I think Hogue knives are top-of-the-line in production knives. I own knives from many other well known knife manufacturers, and there are few companies that match Hogue's level of quality. I also own Hogue's EX-01 folding knife, and it has never let me down. I love it so much I just had to buy the EX-F01 fixed blade. The sheath is outstanding. Military grade nylon and snaps, MOLLE compatible, multiple carry options, and quick release belt loop so you don't need to take your belt off to attach the sheath to your belt. This is the only plastic insert sheath I've seen that is molded to the blade to disallow blade rattle. The handle retention straps can be reversed, adjusted for handle thickness, and/or removed. There is nothing I would change about this knife.

Excellent Knife

Just receive knife yesterday. Coming from an aerospace background where everything has to be perfect, the form, fit and finish are spot on. It is comfortable in the hand no hot spots, came razor sharp, tip geometry is perfectly ground. Skull Crusher on back of knife is impressive will do some damage. I got the knife with the polished cocabolla scales they are very well done. The smooth polished surface of the scales are not slippery. The Finger choil is carefully thought out and far enough away from the blade edge to not worry about cutting yourself when carving or making feather sticks. I like how the knife widens at the tip which is nice for batoning, prying and such. The cutouts inside the tang are nice to fit some small survival things such as pieces of fat wood, cotton tinder, fish hooks and line, water purification tablets what ever you can think of that would fit in the space. There are four holes on the blade and tang for lashing the blade to a pole to use as a spear. The 7 inch A2 blade steel is well balanced. The heat/cryogenic treatment should make this blade extremely tough especially at a 1/4” thick so you can push it pretty hard and not have to worry about it breaking. The smooth Cerakote is well applied and slick, will see how long it lasts. The molle compatible nylon sheath I think is one of the best ones out there again well thought out and constructed. You can belt carry high or undo the top loops to carry lower on the body. With the addition of the optional pouch which you have to buy separately (the only negative) add a pocket knife, small diamond sharpener or what ever else you want to store in it. It comes with a torq screw driver to take off the scales. Again another nice feature. Overall I think this knife was well thought out and IMHO a great multipurpose tacticle/survival knife at a reasonable price. I will give an update after I put it through its paces on how it holds up in the near future.

You need one of these... really.

I received this knife this morning. I just came in now (4 hours later) because it started to rain. I've been dispatching invasive Euonymus ("burning bush" -- plant it if you want to ruin everything!) for 4 hours with this tool. Usually, even with a sharp knife, there is a 'click' when the blade contacts the flexible trunk of a woody plant. This knife makes wood feel like sausage. Usually I would mow this area to control the invasives, but I was so impressed by the performance of the knife, that I just kept wielding it outside its intended work arena, with no gloves, feeding the deer flies, for this long. My friends would say that I am a knife enthusiast. I can't believe this American-made product evaded my attention for so long. It's a thick, surprisingly sharp, comfortable, and good-looking tool that I will recommend to anyone. I wasn't crazy about the flexible plastic insert in the molle sheath, but the knife doesn't rattle or slip out when inverted unstrapped, so I'm on board with that now, too.
