Simply the best in my rotation

I'd give it a 100 if it was possible, so a 5 will do. This is just THE BEST RAZOR I HAVE EVER SHAVE WITH IN MY LIFE!!!!, used right out of the box and now all my other beauties have now a huge competitor that will be impossible to defeat, and I'm not talking about chinese blades but exclusively German!!!!!

Smooth excelent shave

What an amzing razor. Very handsome and great quality. I shave with it right from the box after stroping it. Well balance in the hand, smooth and a very close shave. I highly recommend the razor.

Why yes it is!!!

My boyfriend has R.A.D and bequeathed this razor to me to utilize in the place of my Edwin Jagger D.E. For a while. what can I say besides it's superb and left all areas touched nice and smooth. Now I think I'm addict to straight razors.....shhh don't tell him though.

Back before I I grew out a beard down to my sternum to yo catch bugs and rocks at 100+ mph, this was what I shaved with every day. I absolutely loved shaving with it. I have never been a morning person, yet this gave me a reason to get out of bed. I cannot explain it, it was the best part of my morning. It sure as h*** was better than the morning breath my wife at the time tried to kiss me with. Shoot, I think I just decided to slice off the sides of my beard , and scalp under my jaw. I sure do miss the feel of her gliding across my face. Sure enough, I am going to have a long goatee tomorrow. Remember there is one unfortunate thing, you need to get two or more so that the blade has time to heal itself. I have a Dovo as well... those days were never magical. it pulled, caught, dragged and snagged on every hair. There are three French things I like, French fries, French kissing, and this French razor!!

Excellent

I use this razor about every other day. I have two other DOVO Bismarks 6/8 and this one is in a class well above them. It's hand sharpened and the description says 6/8-7/8. Mine came mostly 7/8. It has more heft to it than the DOVOs and the first time I used it, I ended up with more nicks like I haven't had since I first started shaving with a straight razor years and years ago. I mentioned that I use it every other day only because I like to give it a rest. However, it can definitely handle every day use with no problems. The handle is solid and very tight, the blade is smooth and I love the feel of the razor. There is something to be said of a beautiful razor in use. And this one would make you right poems. LOL Would I buy this razor again? H3ll yeah! In fact, I'm considering getting another one right now.

This is the same blade as TI Spartacus

Try to find a new TI Spartacus with this price anywhere else ;) The scales are nice and for this price for a Spartacus blade - it is special. This is a 6/8th blade not 7/8th. If you always wanted to have a TI Spartacus, this is it. Besides Knife Center's customer support is very good.

Great razor

If you know anything about straight razors you know that there are ones with a factory edge and ones that have been gone over by a "honemeister" to create a proper shave ready edge. This razor only has a factory edge but it is the sharpest factory edge I have ever experienced. I have over 25 straights and use one every day after I performed a little touch up on the razor to get it to that properly shave ready edge this one out shaves them all. This is head and shoulders above the fillamonica razor I own which is often considered the best straight razor ever made (and priced accordingly. If this is to be your first razor go get one that is prehoned by a professional not a factory edge, if you know what you are doing and can put an edge on yourself get this one!

Awesome Razor !!!

Received this razor promptly and in perfect condition. Beautiful razor came very sharp. Couple swipes on a translucent arkansas stone and a couple on the Russian leather strop and it shaves better than a Track III safety razor...closer too. It measured almost the full 7/8. You can't go wrong with this historical razor. Sharper than a 5/8 razor...can't feel any pull on my beard when using it. Be careful with it!

great product and price, best price online for the historical model TI Dos Festonne. Once all are gone the new ones will be made from the new C135 steel which isn't quite as nice as the historical forgings so get one of these while you can.

Not Exactly, but great.

This is a great little razor and after a good stropping with Chromium oxide and then some leather you will be set for life if you want. One issue is that the square point in the picture did not arrive in my order. I got a rounded point instead. Otherwise identical to the picture.

My first Razor

Being my first razor, it is impossible to compare it, however it arrived shave ready and works wonderfully. It looks slightly different from the photo, where as the toe is more extended. Being a smiling blade this adds to it appeal. The heel also is less rounded than the photo. The TI crown was half buffed away but it does not effect the quality of the shave. I lowered the score to 4 because of the over buffing and grinding of the metal. I would have preferred a bit more attention to detail. Other than the above mentioned flaws it seems to be a good quality and soon to be rare shaver.

Not 7/8 but 6/8

I just ordered this razor and buyers beware they are mis-marked and are actually 6/8 blades not 7/8 as advertised. Don't get me wrong Thiers-Issard makes a great razor because I already own 2, both of which have big 7/8' blades that's why I noticed something was wrong as soon as I removed it from the box which is clearly marked 7/8 so I pulled out the tape measure and sure enough it measures 6/8.

Not As Advertised When I Ordered It

When I placed my order for the above razor it stated that it was a FULL 7/8 inches, but when it arrived I was disappointed to find that it was one of Thiers-Issards medium sized 6/8 inch razors after I opened it and measured it even though it was clearly marked on the box as a 7/8 inch razor. I'm in the process of sending it back for a refund after talking to Daniel, by the way they have now updated the description of this particular Thiers-Issard # J-86 as 3/4 to 7/8.

Great Maker

. The razor handle is beautiful, the blade overall is very nice with nice work on the spine however the blade face is ugly. The gold plating is over an engraving which sticks out over the top and bottom of the gold plating. The plating looks like a big smudge until you hold it just right so you can see both the plating and engraving but they really don’t work together. The shaving edge is another disappointment. The bevel on one side of the blade is huge, twice the size of the bevel on the other side, indicating very sloppy work. I have honed over 100 razors in the past year and not seen a bevel like this before. I have since worked the edge and now do shave with it. TI makes superb razors but this was not one of them.

Warped blade

The sloppily engraved "Fully Warrented" on the blade should have been a clue. The blade is warped and actually came with a few very minor nicks in it. As reviewer Patrick noted, the factory bevel was uneven but still sharp. While the weight and grip is excellent, I cannot for the life of me get it to hone well consistently across the whole blade. This razor has become only frustration and disappointment. I put it away for a couple months and then make a new attempt to make it work but without success. Should I just throw it out or do you want it? TI has a good reputation, but at this price, I am scared off from trying any of their other products.
