KA-BAR 1310 Slabby Fixed Blade 6.86''

The quality and design upgrades to this knife are excellent. I replaced the scales to a custom grip and the improvement was much better. I have heard criticism about the sheath not having an attachment feature, but as a collector the knife will not be carried. I have had issues with the sheath being difficult to remove knife, but this seems to improving with use. Love this KA- BAR.

Ka-Bar “slabby” full tang knife

Great bushcraft, utility, camping, backpacking knife. It’s built to work hard . I did replace the handles as the factory handles were smooth . I bought some that were better to grip .

KA-BAR USA-MADE FULL-TANG!

Very well put together. Im very impressed with this version of the old school kabar.The sheath comes with no way to attach it to gear or your belt, you need to find that on your own..All together i really like this KABAR knife. The blade came very sharp,no touch up needed. The sheath has room for improvement. I'm still very happy with it overall. USA MADE, full-tang goodness.

KABAR Slabby

The knife is fine, but the sheath needs refinement. It is extremely difficult to draw the knife from the sheath. I would expect something better from a long established knife company like KABAR.

Worth the price? It’s up to you.

I’m sure like a lot of others, I decided I needed this after the knife was teased mid-summer. My job puts me in decent spectrum of what I’ll encounter, so my knife needs are a bit different. The combination of self-defense, hard use, and potential woodcrafting. Jack of all, master of none kind of thing. It’s a beefy boy that comes unnaturally sharp out of the box. Seriously, watch your digits. The included sheath has a new-to-me feature that is their retention lock. There’s a small piece on a pivot that secures the knife when it’s seated. To remove it, just push down on the piece with your thumb while removing the knife with your other four fingers. The button also has a little pivot lock to ensure it doesn’t get knocked loose. There’s no nice way to put it. The handle sucks harder than a turbo charged Dyson. They finally made a full tang version of their fighting knife and they put scales on it that are too small for a mora. I don’t have catchers mitts for paws, either. I wear a large work glove. The sheath, while it holds the knife well, doesn’t have any way to carry it, short of using the grommets and lashing it. You have to buy the carrying attachments separately. Not cool, Ka-Bar. Not cool at all.

The slabby

Got mine. The blade is a little wider, a little bit shorter. And over all the knife is heavier if you are used to a prior ka-bar. But in a good way. The blade extends out to the edges of the handle slabs to the butt. The down side in my option is the sheath. It has no dedicated attachment point for a belt without some modification. You have to lash it in some manner. The knife seems too heavy to be attached upside down on a combat vest. The blade locks in and is released with your thumb pressing outward on a button. IT has a cross(?) lock you can set to lockout the button release from moving. Over all with exceptions noted a good sturdy blade with a robust tang. I look forward to using it on my next wilderness trip.

Pretty darn good but could use a couple tweaks.

I have 2 traditional Ka Bars. One USMC with the leather handle and another with the black rubberized handle. I also have an Ontario 498. I consider all of them to be good knives but like others I was excited to see a full tang offering. The Slabby came today and it’s nice but the cross guard is a little loose and the sheath, which is also nice does not have a loop for belt attachment. If they address the loose cross guard issue and would add an attachment for the molded sheath I think it would be a real winner. Btw the leather sheaths for the other 7 inch Ka Bars work fine with the new Slabby and the nylon belt loop attachment from a Cold Steel gI Tanto sheath fits the Ka Bar Slabby sheath almost perfectly. So if u have one laying around give it a try.

Ka bar slabby

I changed the scales on my slabby and it has a good grip the blade is sharp out of the box and I bought a belt clip to wear it when I need a heavy duty knife by my side the handle is long and it's like that to even up the weight and length of the blade it could be shorter there is alot of handle when I grip it and it could feel better with a shorter handle it feels like the handle is bigger in the middle and it was made to be a balanced in weight knife,it's easy to use but the handle is kind of that extra if you need it.

Thought I could make it work; nope.

I like the blade and that's where it stops. I knew the handle would be an issue, but until I held it I really didn't have a clue. I thought I could make it work with aftermarket scales; nope. I can't figure out where one is supposed to hold this thing with the current grip contour to make it work. It's horrible. There is just no way this design was made for the human hand. the grip is too long. Choking up isn't right, backing off isn't right, nothing about where the human hand attaches to this thing is right. The stock scales are crap, keeping the contour with aftermarket fixed nothing. This conclusion I made only receiving it today. I took it to a custom knifemaker I know as I do not have to tools or skills to do anything with it. He allowed that he could modify it for about two hundred dollars. So, I'm not keeping it. The finsh is crap, like most knives these days. The sheath is crap, like most knives these days.

Great service from your store but the worst KA-BAR ever

Before I leave my comment, I want to say that I have over 50 years worth of knife experience. I am a military and police veteran. I also spent over 50 years studying and teaching Filipino Martial Arts. Not too many people know more about knives than I do. I own 17 other Kabars (I love every one of them). Kabar is my favorite knife in the world. Kabar made a huge mistake with this knife. First of all, the handle is too slick and is too narrow. It is unlike any other kabar in history. It is heavier than any other, but I could live with that if the other problems I am going to mention did not exist. The top finger guard is missing (I know why and will mention it later). This missing finger guard makes the knife dangerous because of the slick handle. They left the tang out so that it will work with the new sheath. This sheath is a mistake. It has a thumb button. That button needs to be depressed with the right hand thumb. A problem for left handers. But a problem for right handers also. You have one single way to draw this knife. That is a horrible plan for real life. I cannot draw the knife with my left hand. I cannot draw the knife in reverse grip. If I am holding something in my right hand, or if my right hand is hurt, or if it is busy fighting with someone, I cannot draw it with the left hand. I cannot draw it in a reverse grip with either hand. That is a major tactical problem. All this being said, I could ignore everything if the grip was leather or Kraton, like their previous knives. If your hand gets wet or bloody, you will not be able to hold this knife. Your hand can even slip onto the blade since it doesn't have an adequate finger guard. I showed Marine Corps buddies of mine and they all concurred. Not a good move for Kabar.
