What a deal!

I don't always feel like carrying a thick, heavy, assisted-opening Benchmade. I have been really happy with the size and light weight of the slim slipjoint Spyderco UK Penknife (longer drop point blade version with the full grind) that I bought before going to England - what a handy knife! I've been carrying it a lot on my weak (RH) side. But . . . well, as my friend put it when I set the thing in his hands for the first time, "I want my knife to have a lock." I mean, I don't hardly do anything rugged with it and the 50/50 choil and half-stop make the UKPK as safe as a nonlocking knife can be . . . but I'd sure feel stupid if I had to get stitches, eh? So, I've been looking around. For a knife that's similar, but has a real lock (not a liner or frame lock - why do things halfway?) - but that's still a value knife because - well, I have fancy knives, and I wind up not carrying them for regular days. (Why mess up something fancy?) And I found a knife that is well reviewed, inexpensive and almost precisely the same size and width - with a real lock. I picked one up in last week here at Knife Center for less than I paid for a fancy burger yesterday. Delivered right away (of course). The KA-BAR (Cutco) Folding Hunter was designed by a guy who knows what he's doing - it fits together right and cuts right and sits tight in your hand (great grip from the molded checkering and well placed jimping). The not-low clip (tip up only, reversible) sits it a bit high in the pocket (so I bought it in Normie Friendly Blue) and seems a little flimsy but holds the knife well. The Taiwanese AUS8A blade is nothing fancy, but I have a number of blades in this steel and I like how easy they are to keep touched-up - honestly, I'd rather have a more malleable blade than one that's hard to sharpen. I'd read a number of reviews, which were all of the "This is a bargain!" sort, but there were some concerns raised about difficulty opening the blade. I have not found that to be the case: the (reversible) thumb stud is well situated and knurled and opens the blade just fine - I haven't even felt the need to oil this particular knife's hinge. And, like most of the knives I saw reviewed, this one came shaving sharp. Anyhow, I'm going to put it into use as I've been carrying the UKPK, on my weak side, generally in a dedicated knife pocket. I'm pretty pleased with it - particularly for the Knife Center price. It's every bit as nicely built and designed as the UKPK it's replacing, it's got a great lock and it cost less than a THIRD what the Spyderco set me back.

Great value, highly recommended

Simple, no-frills folder.  Incredibly inexpensive for it's quality.  Better built than some knives three times the price. Incredibly light; you could skip the pocket clip if you like, because you don't even notice it in the bottom of your pocket.  The Zytel handles afford a very good grip, even when dirty or wet. The blade is quite thick along the spine, so it's strong well up to the tip, not at all fragile.  Good piercing power. A decent hollow grind ends in a nice sharp edge; surprisingly, this is one of the sharper folders that I've received out of the box...and I've opened a lot of boxes! Not the deepest carry; it protrudes about 1/2" above the edge of your pocket if you use the clip (it arrives set for right tip-up carry, can be changed to left tip-up carry). Great EDC. Not intimidating to NKPs (non knife persons); it's only a 3" blade, and somehow the bright blue color seems to make it seem less menacing than more tactical-appearing designs.  Still, there's enough blade to do about anything you need from an EDC.  More EDC than tactical. There is, however, enough handle on it to allow use of the 3" blade tactically in a pinch. The back lock works well. No blade play at all when opened, and the lock disengaged smoothly when you're ready to close the blade.  This is not assisted open, but the thumb stud is well-placed, so it's an easy one-handed open. Note that the thumb stud is on one side of the blade only--set up for righties--but it can be removed with a very small torx bit (looks like about a #6) and moved to the other side if you're a lefty. The AUS 8A steel is a decent EDC choice.  Takes a nice sharp drop-it-through-a-sheet-of-paper edge, holds it decently, and is easy to sharpen. The closing detent is well done; this isn't going to open by accident. Is this a high-end production folder a la Zero Tolerance, some Spydercos, and the like?  No.  Is it some kind of exotic or 'super steel'?  No.  But it is an amazing tool for the money.  And should you lose it, no biggie, you just get another one. I'll probably get more to give as gifts; it's one of those rare "I can't believe it's this good for this price" finds.  Highly recommended.

Plain and Simple

WOW! Now this is great working mans EDC knife! I have around 20 folders and this has to be the best one. A very simple no bells and whistles knife...and that's what makes this great. A fat beefy spine on the blade with the Glock like polymer handle give this knife a great feel. Yes, it will cut a piece of paper out of the box. The clip on this knife is very stout with a great hold. With a price of $20, I will be getting a few of these! As a machinist of 18 years...I highly recommend this knife.

Sweet lighter blade

simple good blade with a good edge, especially considering the price would make a great starter or entry level edc. otherwise chuck it in a pack and you know theres a good tool there.

Best pocket knife

This knife is the perfect combination of size and weight for pocket carry. The blade is very sharp. Doesn't really need a clip.. Just slip it in your pocket. Extremely strong lock up.
