Best “sharpener” for my CS Mini Recon 1

Open cartons. Keeps me from using Mini Recon 1 thus preserving its virgin edge. This is a “user” not a “beater” because a good beater knife actually calls for TriAd robustness. But with the only stress this is going to see being rocking the blade out of cardboard, I figure the conventional lockback is enough to save my fingers - the retention spring is stronger that Buck, at least, on par with Spyderco. (With limited exceptions like CS and Spyderco, liner locks are altogether off my list.) Don’t worry about the lack of liners - Zytel is decades long proven structurally reinforced nylon. No liners means 2 ounces gets you 3”. D2 suits me because I go long intervals before pro resharpening. If you can do it yourself, go with AUS8 instead.

KaBar Dozier D2

This is the second Dozier I have bought, first in D2. First I liked the coloration of the knife. The Doziers have become one of my favorite day in day out knives. They have met every challenge I've presented them, but I dont abuse my knives. I rate this knife as a very dependable tool that should meet anyone's budget.

Yes, it's a budget bugout, but not as overpriced

For this price it's not as slick actionwise as the Rat 2 but it's very solid and beats it on weight, appearance and comfort in the hand. Really nice color combo, the picture is accurate in everything but the fact that it shows a weird bit of blade coating blistering which did not exist on mine, in fact quite good qc for a $30ish knife. Handles are nice and tactile and, while not by any means a flicker or fidgety, blade can be opened via reversible single thumbstud with some decisive wrist action. When people refer to this as a budget bugout it's very accurate. Pretty sharp out of the box and a very good hiking/fishing/light edc.

Perfection for the money

I've had this version of the knife for years, and I must say that it has never failed me. D2 is a solid steel, and over the years the overall design has made me choose this knife over knives five times as expensive

My favorite version

I have owned a couple of these Dosiers. Both in AUS8. I liked the design and I actually like AUS8 better than VG10. It sharpens easily and takes a good edge. This D2 version seems to be better quality control than those. It is a great lightweight budget knife. I believe it is as good as a Spyderco Delica or Benchmade Bug Out. Not afraid to use and abuse this one because I can easily replace it. It’s not as pretty as those mentioned above but it’s a work horse. It the blade to choose when you’re on a working person’s budget. No fancy locks or push buttons. My wife can work this knife where she has problems working liner locks and push button locks.

Solid buy

Great knife for the money. Well built and solid blade steel. I find myself carrying this often as an alternative to the Bugout. Deep carry pocket clip would be great but it's not a deal breaker

Serious alternative to the Bugout

At $32 this is a serious competitor to the Benchmade Bugout in terms of size, weight and edge retention (D2 is harder to resharpen than S30v but matches it in edge retention). It’s also legal in 3” locations. The Cerakote keeps everything but the edge itself away from staining and corrosion. A little mineral oil or lip balm on the edge will take care of that, plus D2 is “near stainless” unlike 1095 etc. Only negative is the pressure it takes on the thumb stud to open, and the sharp edge on the stud itself. And the baby blue blue color. When did blue become the signifier for premium steels?

Ka-bar Dozier D2

This is the first knife I have gotten with D2 steel. It fitted all the criteria that I have for the rotation of my EDC gear knives. 3"blade, plain blade, locking, thumb stud opener. Light weight, good clip. Razor sharp, has not required any sharpening. Used for daily tasks.

Great Knife at a great price!

This is a great, economical, EDC knife. It's light weight, easy to open but not flickable, and has a great blade. Arrived shaving sharp and has remained so with limited use. Feels solid and yet light weight. The only con, and it's a minor one, is that I wish the clip allowed the knife to sit a little deeper in the pocket. It's a workhorse of a knife and I plan to get another very soon. they're just that good.

Hiking Knife

This is my hiking knife because of its light weight, strong back lock, and low cost; I forget it’s there, I feel safe using it, and I can buy another with little remorse if it gets lost. The longer I have this knife, the more I use it, and the more I get to know other knives, the more I appreciate its value: it’s just a very good knife at a low cost that’s great for outdoor/EDC use. Love its blade shape, size, weight, and handle ergos. It’s a great knife for the price.

Value Lightweight EDC

Lightweight, slim, well-made EDC at a budget price. The coyote tan steel makes a nice contrast to the blue handle. My example came sharp out of the box. I actually prefer AUS-8 to D2 because it is easier to sharpen, but D2 is tough as nails. Even without G10 or a steel liner, this is a sturdy knife with a rock-solid lockup. It has performed every task I’ve asked of it so far, including cutting food, cutting up sticks in the yard, and perpetual box-opening. My ONLY complaint is that the clip makes the knife ride a little high in the pocket. I prefer a deeper and more concealed carry. Opening is a bit stiff, but not enough to prevent one-handed opening.

Great knife for the money

This is a great edc. Perfect size. Doesn't take up much room in the pocket. Use and abuse then buy another. This is my fourth in the last 8 years.

Simplicity

I just got into knives, I’ve always had a folder in the truck but all of the sudden after watching Knife Center videos on Youtube I started EDC and really playing with and using them all the time. I generally like larger blades but I do find myself carrying this Dozier often because of its simplicity and its thin size and light weight. It also doesnt flick open and that makes it different and fun as a change. It is what it is and its right on point.

KaBar Dozier 4062D2

I own several of this same knife, and several of the less expensive Doziers, I do like them all, because they’re all strong and light, easy to carry all the time. This particular knife I like even better because of the blade steel, I have them in place all over. The only thing I would change would be to add thin SS liners inside the plastic handles, especially on this model... Great Knives, very valuable!
