I overlooked these KaBar Zombie Knives many times, as I think of anything with a bio-hazard green handle as a novelty knife. But, I was reading Northwoods Guide/Survival Instructor, Len McDougall’s excellent book, The Edgemaster’s Handbook, 2018, Skyhorse Publishing, NY, NY, and there was a favorable review in the back of the book on KaBar Zombie Knives. Len knows knives. He uses his knives for such hard use tasks as, chopping frozen deer femurs at -40 degrees, Fahrenheit, to feed his wolves/sled dogs. So, if he speaks highly of them, I thought I should take a second look. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I like big camp knives, so, once I got past these bio-hazard green scales, I found there’s a pretty nice camp knife underneath. I might just leave the flo green scales on, just to make it harder to misplace. Handle is comfortable enough, but they could have left off the peak/ridge protruding from middle of handle, and it would have been a better/more practical grip (scroll down to: “happycamper’s” review below for more on that). >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Not in the specs above, but, War Sword is 3/16“ thick at spine. Fulcrum is right at guard/quillon, making balance light/fast. This is a knife. It doesn’t have the weight of a sword. I’ve been pleasantly surprise with SK5 tool steel on CRKT’s, Clever Girl, and Rakkasan (available at KnifeCenter.com). I found it disappointing in a large, > $100 Chinese made camp knife, that I did not purchase at Knife Center (chipped/rolled @ 55-57 HRC, in hardwood). So, I took it out back and batoned some white oak with it. It performed flawlessly. In fact, I would consider it up there with my best batoning camp knives (OKC’s SPII 51, and Browning Crowell/Barker Competition Knife, both discontinued). I could detect no rolling/chipping after batoning many logs. Good Steel/heat treat/tempering. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Blade Show should have a category: “Best Knife Sheath.” It might inspire more knife manufacturers to innovate, and make a great sheath like this one. War Sword’s sheath is not perfect. The liner is not fitted, and it can rattle a bit. The small companion knife’s sheath is not placed in the best position, or, retained optimally; but KaBar gets 6 Stars in my book for trying. This is a, “survival system” sheath, with its small Acheron Skeleton companion, survival knife (I like it). The award winning part of this sheath is a draw string pouch on the front, that will actually hold all your survival essentials, and is big enough that it would probably hold your lunch, too. Bravo Kabar! I hope you come back and visit this concept in future knives. Congratulations on receiving my award. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> For the price, this is a pretty good camp knife. I can’t tell you much about killing imaginary dead people with it. I work with a bunch of zombies. They’re basically nice folks. Can’t we all just get along? If, I could just get them to quit picking my brain. Ok. I’m leaving. You don’t have to throw rotten tomatoes. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> P.S. Don’t tell Len McDougall that I was batoning wood with it. He may come down here and club me with a frozen deer femur ; )

When I first saw the knife, I was amused by what the called it! I love the shape of the blade. So my wife purchased for of them for Father's day! When I get the knives I try destroy them, by this I mean battening, Bushcraft! No damage to the blade. Makes me wish there was a zombie apocalypse!

war sword? yes please

i am no way an expert in knives, but am very happy with the war sword. the knive itself feels just the right weight for its size, nice sharp edge, it just feels good in your hand. the sheath functional, has a bit of a cheap feel to it, and the mini knife was a nice idea - would be better if it was a mini ka-bar and not a cheap knock-off. all in all, i would recommend

KaBar zk war sword

I want to start off by saying its a shame this is being marketed as a "zombie" killer, its to bad really I was hoping the zombie branded stuff would be a joke for a minute then go away, but it didnt. whats so sad is there is some good gear being marketed that way and its not taken seriously. like this The ZK war sword is a great all around large camp/bush knife, its got a thick, long, full flat ground blade with a slight recurve, and a very slight weight forward balance that lends itself well to chopping. the factory edge is suitably sharp but the factory grind (at least on mine) is fantastic, very symmetrical and a perfect amount of relief edge. So sharpening is very easy. the SK5 steel is a good choice i takes a very fine utility edge im not sure its fine grained enough to become razor sharp but for being a short machete, it can become very sharp indeed. The handle is what i think lets this knife down, it comes with both green and black scales and extra hardware wich is nice. but it has an odd shape to it you have to hold it much like you hold a rifle stock. treating the one finger hump in the handle as the "trigger" you put your index finger there and grab the back portion of the handle with the rest of your hand. now this grip is very secure and i have to say very comfortable, for me at least it just feels odd, and it kinda restrictive on ways to carry the knife. you can either choke way up or slide way down the handle wich doesnt allow for a secure grip, im sure with a lanyard you could figure somethin out, but I just hold it as I described earlier. The sheath is ok, its molle compatible sorta if the straps on your gear are too wide it might not fit, although this knife is pretty big to molle attach it somewhere, however its an option, the front pouch on the sheath has a lime green drawstring that cant be replaced with black. either cut it off or sharpie it black, the front pouch is huge it can fit a can of soda in it. oh a little knife called the aecheron comes with it there is a little slot on the sheath for the piggyback knife, thats an ok little bonus it would work for smaller more delicate tasks, unfortunately the aecheron has a skeletonized handle and you cant wrap it if you want it to fit in its sheath. also the sheath has a belt loop for attachment. oh one last thing about the sheath it does not hold the knife secure with friction you need to use the retention strap if you dont want it loose, even with the retention strap it does make a little noise. all in all a great knife maybe now they are american made and $100 i paid $40 for my made in taiwan version they will square away the sheath, if your interested in one check out older therefore cheaper made in taiwan versions, This knife would be worth 100 if they fixed the sheath and got rid of the stupid zombie marketing crap. again the zombie marketing is a joke so it takes credibility away from a good product, how many of you havnt even given this a second look because of the lime green? So again a great camp/bush knife will hack and cut very well it serves as a small machete that is much stronger. good traction, not too heavy 16oz for a 9.75" blade and a thick blade at that. great knife terrible marketing, my advice would be go out and ebay an older taiwan made version for $50 or so that is worth every penny, if this knife came with micarta or g10 handles and no zombie garbage, it would be a $100 knife all day long but i wouldnt spend 100 on it for the version i have, and since the made in USA version is the same materials and design all your paying for is labor. dont get me wrong i suppourt buying USA made as much as possible but under circumstances like this i cant justify the cost/value to myself, so i cant recommend that you do either. hope this answered some questions

Pros: Weight, Blade Material
Cons: Handle Material
The rate I give comes from what I feel bout the blade & weight because this isnt the time of yr that it will be used. I`ll know more then,,I will say the handle seems to be made for Vikings, I dont have small hands BUT ! Maybe its a balist thing,,, the green handle makes it look,, well ,,I dont understand, I guess if it was left somewhere in the woods it may be easyer to find, but do you realize zommbies aren`t real,,,,,,,,change the handle first thing, get rid of the two finger knife, give it a run on the stone & I believe ya got a good tool.
